A sweet, low angst read, about 2 people on different paths that collide. A twist will keep you hooked right til the end.
Wanderlove by Rachel Blaufeld is a sweet, angsty story that will tick all ‘the feels’ boxes for a coming of age romance. Emerson Bender and Price Barnes meet in a by chance New York City. Emerson is there searching for her mom, and Price was dropped into a life of luxury by his real dad.
Money is tight for Emerson, she works two part-time jobs and has the tiniest of apartment, while Price owns a penthouse. They shouldn’t be a match but Price is really just a small-town boy from the country. Emerson’s home is just as small but by the ocean. They have such similarities and connections that they fall easily.
It’s a slow-burning NA romance so short on any hot moments. But, the emotions were given time to grow and mature, just like the characters. Em’s search for her mom takes over a fair bit of the story. She dogged and determined to find her mother but at what cost.
This was a sweet, charming story that shows the ties that bind us all as families.
3.5 stars. My first read by Rachel Blaufield and I look forward to reading more. Two wandering souls in search of what’s missing find love unexpectedly. A sweet low angst read with a twist that hooks you until the end.
One of my favorite books of 2019
A book of finding your one true love in the most unexpected place at the most unexpected time. A story of finding yourself and the one person you can be yourself with. Life is always throwing curveballs and these two have to fight to make it out of the dark to get to their happily ever after.
Emerson Bender has grown up with just her Dad. After turning 18 she goes on the hunt for her mother from the ocean side to New York, But what she stumbles upon isn’t all that great. With a lucky find, Emerson is so close to finding out information , But she also bumps into Price Barnes just a country boy that is going to college in New York. Only growing up with his Mom, having his father find him sets about a big change in his life. These two are interconnected in a way that will have the angst running high. What a journey these two take.
In the end, love wins. And these two make your heart full.
Highly recommended.
*I was given a free advanced copy of this book by Net Galley in exchange for my honest and voluntary review. All thoughts and opinions are those of my own.*
I love Rachel’s work and I was thrilled to read this. It’s not my favorite as it got slow for me in a couple parts but it was a great short and steamy NA romance. The characters were easy to like and this story kept my attention.
Thank you Netgalley, the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Emerson is eighteen and on her own, by choice, in the city. She loves her dad, but she wants to know the mom she never met after, essentially, being abandoned by her. Emerson’s hope of finding her mom is rapidly fading, just like her money pretty much has.
Price is a country boy through and through, and while the city isn’t where he wants to be, he couldn’t pass up the chance for college, even if it’s connected to a dad that’s never been a part of his life. He’s finding it a struggle to adjust to the changes this brings about.
Emerson is a bit guarded, perhaps as a way to protect herself, but Price isn’ a quitter and has his own issues he’s trying to deal with. Together, they help one another cope while strengthening the connection that’s been building between them since they met.
But is love really ever that easy?
One-click now and follow along as two people meet just as fate intended at a time when they needed one another the most. I like that while this book was close to instalove, it didn’t seem forced and only strengthened as they spent time together.- By Elizabeth
An emotional meandering story through a daughter’s search for the mother she never knew and yearned for. Emerson missed having a mother all her life, even though her father did the utmost to be all she ever needed. Now that she was eighteen, she wanted to fly but her father got stricter than ever, and they were fighting more than ever. Emerson, like any eighteen year old wanting to discover the world, was defiant against her father’s strictures and in all discussions, the final blow was the mention of her mother. One day, after a particular vicious fight, she got into her car and left on the quest to look for her mother. She ended up in New York City…
Price was living a happy life in the farm that her mother and stepfather owned and worked in. He visualized his future as marrying his high-school sweetheart Moira, having kids, and taking over the farm when his parents retired. Except one day his biological father appeared and offered him a college education. His mother wanted the best for him and urged him to take this opportunity, so Price found himself in a swanky South Central Park apartment, with a chauffeur and enrolled in college studying business. He was twenty-three, a little old to start college, but that didn’t faze him, he was content in his own skin.
A bump, a near fall, and a grabbing of arms to prevent a fall is how they met. A snarky conversation later, they moved on with their lives until Price happened into Emerson’s work as a bartender. From then on, a friendship was born, some mutual dependence was developed. It was a funny coincidence that Price was abandoned by his father but had an awesome mother, while Emerson was abandoned by her mother but had an awesome father. In a way, this brought them together and gave them the start of a relationship.
What happens after this is a couple falling in love and wondering if they want to go back to their towns or forge a new and different future together. For Price, his priorities changed as he fell in love with his little spitfire, and Emerson saw in Price the guy who accepted her with all her abandonment issues. I saw Emerson as a wise girl who let her emotions drive her a little too much. There were times that I thought she got too emotional and behaved erratically. I loved how Price courted Emerson, understood her reasons for searching her mother, provided protection and support and even won over her father and helped them make up. This was a highly emotional story that involves Emerson and Price and their families, new friends, secrets uncovered, a mother’s guilt, a father’s redemption, coincidences and fate. Very entertaining and angsty!
Emerson (Emmy) is sick of living under her dad’s rules, so she bolts to New York. She plans to find her estranged mother, and perhaps find herself along the way.
Price finds himself in New York after his estranged father transplants him there to live in the lap of luxury while attending school. When he meets Emmy it’s like his soul has found its other half. Can two people, one searching for someone, the other trying to act as if one doesn’t exist, really be soul mates?
I have to admit that I was a little disappointed in Wanderlove. It fell a bit flat for me and for the life of me, I couldn’t see the connection between Price and Emerson. I’m not sure if that’s because Emerson herself was a character I couldn’t connect with, or simply because there was a lack of depth to the relationship. Either way, I didn’t believe in them as a strong couple because their chemistry and connection just wasn’t there for me. I loved Price, though, he was the one thing I did like about this story. Everything else didn’t work for me, from the bratty, immature Emerson, to their disparate maturity levels, and of course, the lack of a strong connection. It just missed the mark for me, but I could see flashes of something in it that lead me to think I could see myself reading a future story by this author.
I am a big fan of Blaufeld’s writing and angsty stories. However, I am more partial to her more contemporary romance books. For some reason, her YA/NA aren’t necessarily my favorite. I admit, I’m not partial to YA/NA in general. Sometimes I get into them, sometimes I don’t.
I am hanging out in the middle on this one. It’s not my favorite, but I didn’t dislike it either. This is one of those books that I know many will love it. Then there will be that small handful, like me, just hanging over to the side wishing they had loved it.
As always, Blaufeld gives her readers all of the angst in this book. The push and pull of these characters will definitely give you all of the angsty feels. For me, I just wasn’t feeling the characters themselves. I can’t really put my feelings into words. I just wasn’t jiving these two for some reason.
If you’re looking for a book with angst, some tugging at your heart, and younger characters trying to find themselves, this is the book for you.
