I finished Until Joe and remembered I hadn’t read book three in the wallflowers series. Don’t even ask why not as I have no idea. I think it’s because I had to wait and I had forgotten what had happened in the previous two so I just kept putting it off. But after I put down Until Joe I just needed more C.P. Smith so I jumped on Amazon and it was a KU title so I jumped right in.
So yeah that was my Sunday. Because once I picked it up I was completely immersed in all things wallflowers and their Neanderthal, alpha men. I don’t know how I forgot how obsessed I was with this series but OMG I loved it.
Poppy was such a sweetheart and for everything she went through she was forged in fire. I loved how she brought everything back to book tropes and storylines. She was hilarious and sweet and everything about her made me love her.
But naturally I am in serious love with Nate aka Bodacious Bar Owner. He can throw me over his shoulder any day. Aside from the fact he is physically flawless, his jealous, protective care of Poppy was beautiful. I loved these two as a couple so much.
And even with all the tropes Poppy pointed out for us going on in this story I couldn’t get enough. Everything worked so well together and was resolved so perfectly I couldn’t be happier. I can’t wait to see the next book in the series and see which of our wallflowers is having a highland wedding.
Nate Jacobs has wanted Poppy Gentry since the first time he saw her, but he believes that he cannot be with her because of the sins of his father. His father was an abuser and while he has no desire to ever hit a woman, he is worried it is in his blood.
Poppy believes she is a broken woman, her past has a secret she has never shared and now that her Father has suddenly reappeared in her life and she finds out a few other secrets about her life she knows she would never be good enough for Nate. However, when Nate finds Poppy has gotten herself in danger, the alpha male in him decides he needs to protect her in every way and keep her safely by his side.
This was a lot of fun, it wrapped up the series nicely and I hope more books come although the three books really center on 6 characters that are matched up. I liked Poppy’s story, had a lot of surprise turns in her story. Nate is probably the most alpha male of the characters in this series. He is intense but you just fall for him. Great series.
I cannot put into words how much I have enjoyed this series…..well I am going to try, obviously for this review, but holy balls!!!
I think this book, out of all the books gave me the most feels. I mean they all have, but this one, this one totally stole my breath and my heart.
Nate is trying so hard to keep away from Poppy, thinking he doesn’t deserve her but he finds he can’t keep away from her. Something pulls at him and he wants to protect her from the world. When she confides in him, he will stop at nothing to make sure justice is dealt.
And as usual the Wallflowers are on a mission…..and keeping their men on their toes! Life is never dull with these ladies!!
Only one Wallflower remains.
Poppy hasn’t had an ideal childhood. She grew up believing her father left her and her mother because the idea of children wasn’t for him. She has trauma from her childhood stemming from her mother’s men (however, only one man is the problem) coming and going, and from a first love who broke her trust. But she doesn’t let her friends in on her trauma and just hides behind her books and smiles. However, Poppy secrets are about to be exposed when her father walks back into the picture, determined to make up for his wrongdoings.
Although Nate has his own demons to fight, he’s determined to help Poppy fight hers and make sure she has a happy life and does nothing but smiles. The attraction they both feel for each other isn’t something either planned to do anything about, but when it comes to the Wallflowers they are irresistible and have an uncanny knack for getting into dangerous situations that they need protection from.
I absolutely loved this story. Then again every story in this series was freaking amazing. But Nate and Poppy’s story just had me hooked from the start. I couldn’t stop once I started.
Poppy and Nate’s past just broke my heart and the way Nate protected her just melted me. Everything about this story will have you hooked. The romance, the angst, the action, the suspense amazing.
You will definitely devour this book from start to finish.
**Disclaimer: I highly recommend reading this series in order.**
Poppy is breathing, she’s alive, but she isn’t truly living. Oh, she has her facade perfected, letting people see what she wants them to, but that mask can only hold for so long.
Nate knows monsters exists, a lesson he learned the hard way as a child when those who should protect you hurt you the most. He wants to fight Poppy’s demons for her, but how do you help someone else heal when you haven’t yourself?
Nate and Poppy are constantly drawn to one another, even with the walls they’ve built around themselves and their hearts, without trying, both Nate and Poppy are taking the other’s down piece by piece.
But Nate is worried his DNA is too strong, that the monster that helped create him, gave too much of himself at the same time. As Nate and Poppy navigate their respective pasts, the feelings between them growing stronger and therefore harder to deny, each must decide if they can move forward and accept the future they could have together.
One-click now and follow along as two people, obviously meant to be together, fight the ghosts of their pasts to have the love of a lifetime. This entire series is just all the feels wrapped up into three incredible stories revolving around women that find friendships that will overcome everything with people who truly understand them, and the men that will love them, moving heaven and earth simply to see their soulmate’s smile. This book features Nate and Poppy, both shadows of who they truly are, the stains of their childhoods weighing them down, feeling as if they’re tainted. I am in awe of the strength of both, suffer for what each endured, and rejoiced in the love they found. This series will be a staple on my go-to-rereads list.- By Elizabeth
OMG!!!
I honestly didn’t think she could top the first two books in this series but she has. Poppy and Nate’s story is the best of the series. Wallflowers are amazing….and the best part is I see there’s one more in the works!! Thank you CP Smith I can’t wait!
And as a bonus she ties the end of this series into her additions to the Happily Ever Alpha stories with Until Joe. If you haven’t heard the BOOM yet you are missing out. These authors rock!!!
#April2019BOOM
Fun fun fun!!! This story of Poppy & Nate was a joy to read! There’s adventure & friendship & family ties as well as the steamy goodness of our main couple handing over their hearts. There’s also a very serious – and timely – story line woven in, and the healing that goes on in the story is heartwarming!
I highly recommend reading this series all together, as it all happens w/in a very short time frame and is all connected. ALSO! The tease at the end for the next book, is FABULOUSLY done! That story line is weaved so nicely into this story… Great job building anticipation by the author!
There’s a lot I would like to gush about, but I think it would be spoiler-y, and I’d rather not hide part of the review on that off chance. So, I’ll just say – I recommend this series & I absolutely ADORE this installment of it! Thumbs WAY up! : )
Still a shit ton of stars. This series has gotten so many stars from me….pretty sure I would’ve broken Amazon if I was able to keep pushing those damn stars. I. Cannot. Get. Enough. Of. This. Book. Crack. Series….I just can’t, it’s just that great. I love this world that CP Smith has created. As much fun as I have had reading it, I can’t imagine how much fun she probably had writing it. Loved everything about it, the quirky and loyal Wallflowers, the OTT alpha Neanderthal’s, the Neanderthal’s on YouTube (really love that one, Bodacious Bar Owner, Hot Cop and Dashing Detective), Cali’s aunts, Bernice is a bit of a badass and such a wonderful women, Gertrude and her sparkly “attire” and the Wallflowers non-cursing ways. This is a world everyone should want to be in and it makes me so happy to read and be apart of. I absolutely love it….All. Of. It.
This is the story of Poppy aka Kitten and Nate aka Bodacious Bar Owner and the third Neanderthal. These two, were just so amazing. Dibs, mine….Nate is mine, all that big brooding OTT alpha hotness, he doesn’t cook…but, I’m willing to accept that flaw. Poppy is endearing in her unsure quirky way, and I flat out adore her. All the things they survived to get to this point and find each other, is nothing short of a miracle. They needed each other in a way that most people could not possibly understand. These two really had my heart, heck all of them really do. This story was another case of the Wallflowers being in the wrong place at the wrong time. They could find trouble anywhere, and they do, all the time.
This was a great storyline and a safe read. No om drama, little ow drama, but my Nate shoots that down immediately, because Poppy was his and that was that…don’t forget I already called dibs, aannnddd I don’t share. Hot af and funny af too. Great supporting/secondary characters, including Gertrude and all her bling. This series is one of my all time favorites, I know, I know, that is saying something. Absolutely cannot wait for the next book *grabby hands*. You can never, ever read too much book crack, true story, free advice and you’re welcome.
These books are some of my favorite and ones that I always recommend to people. One Heart Remains really helped answer some questions that the other books left. We really get to know Poppy and Nate. They were great characters in the other books but always seemed to be a little more in the background but since this is their book, we get to be in their heads.
This story to me is a little darker, and I mean that it the fact that the subject matter that these characters are dealing with is heavier than the others. Nate and Poppy didn’t have good childhoods and carry a lot of emotional baggage with them. Their baggage has held them back their whole lives but it was amazing to see them break free from it.
This story and these characters hit my heart hard and still have not left it. They fought so hard to be together and to fight their own demons plus help the other fight theirs. I think these are my favorite two characters from the Wallflowers.
I am excited for Bernice and Uncle Joe’s story!!!
ahhhh finally Poppy and Nate’s story. I love this series and this one does not disappoint!!! I loved the whole entire emotional process this journey took.
Both Nate and Poppy have some deep issues and it takes some pushing for them both to come out and explore the chemistry they have. Poppy fights it more then nate and in usual CP Smith fashion he uses some of his UBER alpha attitude to get her around to his way of thinking.
Poppy is a part of the wallflower trio of friends and you get to visit with the characters from the last two books. I loved how well the author intertwined the characters and how she made One Heart Remains another great addition.
CP Smith is a master of bombshells and alpha male heros. This book starts off with a huge bombshell with Poppy and previous characters. I don’t want to ruin it but it would help to read the other two books so it flows better.
The wallflowers are always causing trouble and it begins early in this book and I love it. They are smart and sassy and give their men a run for their money. I don’t want to ruin it but this is another great read from CP Smith. Lots of emotions, action, alpha guys, mystery, and love. Please please one click this five star read! You won’t regret it.
“Just like her counterparts, Poppy seemed to be made up of equal parts strength and beauty.”
Wallflowers: One Heart Remains is my favorite book yet! The author does not disappoint you with Poppys story. It just seems I can NOT get enough of these crazy fun Wallflowers. I devoured these pages like a women possed! One Heart Remains packed all the feels that my heart needed! It was a emotional roller coaster ride I did not want to get off of. Poppy, Calla, and Sienna are honestly friendship goals. They are a breath of fresh air, and always taking you on a amazing journey. Now let’s talk Poppy and Nate. Man are they absolutely explosive! Their chemistry was smoking HOT and absolutely perfect together. I did not see so many things coming in this book. It was full of surprises, heartache, and angst! I honestly can NOT recommend this series enough!
“Fiery attitude. Hisses at anyone who dares come too close. Skin so soft I want to run my hands all over your body until you’re moanin’ my name . . . You’re my Kitten.”
Poppy was a whirlwind of emotion. She was seriously one of those heroines you could not help but love. She has always been my faborite Wallflower and her story only cemented that more. Even though Poppy was haunted by the insecurities of her past, she always remained strong. My heart ached for the little girl haunted by demons from her past. While the rest of me admired the strong willed, independent women her character became.
“Hope that maybe a miracle, in the form of a brooding male with eyes the color of dark, hickory coffee, might be my saving grace.”
Nate is hands down one of the most caveman alpha hero’s I have read. And. I. LOVED. Every. Second. Of. It! Nate demanded your attention, all while slowly dominating your heart. He had me melting into a puddle of swoons so many times with his charming ways. My heart ached for Nate so many times. He too was haunted by the demons of his past. And a vulnerable Nate hits you right in the feels.
“Wallflowers it seemed, both the women and the flowers, were as resilient as they were beautiful.”
*4&1/2 STARS*
Well earned for another great installment to the Wallflowers series. If you have not started these books you are missing out.
This story! it is so rich and has such substance. Everything is so well written, from the way that the city and its surroundings is described with such vividness, and the feelings of despair both Nate and Poppy feel on account of their past. Poppy is shocked at some startling revelations in the beginning of this book, and Nate, who had previously tried to stay away, comes blazing into the story to help sort out the trouble that the Wallflowers always seem to get themselves into. The feelings that Poppy has about her past are described to the reader and promotes such empathy while also encouraging strength.
Nate is so patient with Poppy. The story weaves a great tale of friendship and conquering “dragons”. A great addition to the series!
CP Smith is an absolute genius when it comes to writing. She will suck you in from page one and leave you begging for more. In this third book of the Wallflowers series we learn the fate of Nate and Poppy.
Poppy’s past isn’t pretty. She has got to be the strongest character I’ve ever read. Even with her past trying to haunt her future she is able to stand tall. For the first time in her life she is not alone. Poppy has the Wallflower’s and now Nate.
The Wallflowers will always stick together and always have eachothers back. Whether its heartache, bum kicking or drinking mojitos where one is you’ll find all three. Calla, Sienna and Poppy are a force to be reckoned with and I’d hate to be on the receiving end of their wrath. Where this trio is mishaps and mayhem are close by.
Nate’s past broke my heart. Between him and Poppy let’s just say a lot of Kleenex was needed. Nate is the ultimate protector. When he claimed Poppy I felt it all the way to my toes. The possessiveness is passionate and endearing. Nate is the ultimate Alpha Male and the ultimate book boyfriend.
This series is amazing and I dare everyone to read it. This author writes HEA better than any author I’ve read. I recommend all of her books.
Love, love, love the Wallflowers. Strong, compassionate and true southern Belles know how to keep their men on their toes. Mayhem follows them but they have the strength and love of their family to get theme through. Poppy and Nate are like peanut butter and jelly, so sweet with the trademark humor we’ve come to love.
This story is part three of the Wallflowers series. It can be read as a standalone, but recommend reading the series in order for optimal enjoyment.
I love being immersed into the lives of the wallflowers! The author does an incredible job creating these three loveable, quirky characters. After living lives filled with tragic events they find their way to each other and form an unbreakable connection, a bond, a family……..the wallflowers.
“We’re called wallflowers because they’re determined. They fight against nature and grow even when the odds say they won’t. They burrow under solid concrete, break through brittle bricks to free themselves from the confines of the past. They seek the light. The freedom to be who they were meant to be: wild and free.”
This story allows us to live vicariously through these characters sharing a comradery of friendship with a strength unlike we’ve ever seen. One Heart Remains is Poppy’s story. We learn about her past and are with her when surprising discoveries are made. She will need the strength of others to survive.
“The wallflowers were as high spirited as one of the colts on the ranch. They sucked the air out of a room with their very presences, living each second as if it were their last, which meant catastrophe would always be waiting around the corner to tempt them. To steal their light.”
Nate is truly the strong and silent type. YUM! He’s had his eye on Poppy for a while.
“A woman he could cherish. Protect. One who would curl around him in the dark until nothing else existed but them, not even the dark memories or the loneliness that had plagued his life. But no matter how much he wanted it, he couldn’t reach out and grab hold because of who he was.”
What Nate wants, he sees in Poppy, but his past makes him unworthy. Will he be able to step up to the plate and be the shoulder Poppy needs?
“Nate’s presence took my breath away. He exuded power-his dark eyes promising he could take on anything that came at him and win- and I wanted more than anything to burrow myself in his arms and have him block out the pain.”
Will his arms be the ones she climbs into?
I’m a big fan of C.P. Smith! The author has a marvelous way of creating an enthralling and entertaining story. There were so many layers and plots to this story, I was captivated. I loved the sarcasm and the constant one-liners between the characters that kept me laughing. The musical references built in were a nice touch, giving the reader an additional connection to the characters.
All in all, this is truly a sensational story!!! It showcases strong comradery between the friends and the depth you’ll go to for love.
“True love slays dragons the size of Atlanta and heals wounds deeper than the ocean. You only have to open your heart to it.”
This is a must read story!!!!!!!!!
My fair and honest review is voluntary.
OMFG I’M SO BLOWN AWAY…..
C.P Smith has done it yet again. The woman should be known and spread into the world like Kristen Ashley is. She definitely belongs on the same shelf. This book solidifies what I have always thought, Teeny is a wizard with words.
As you all know by now it’s Poppy’s and Nate’s book. We all also know the Wallflowers and how they attract trouble like it’s a magnet.
This book is no different there are plenty twists and turns….
But what really stands out is the dialogue and thoughts. It’s fucking brilliant. So real and relatable. The punch lines are perfect. Smith gives us the best scenes and dialogue always but this book was beautifully written. Beautifully Driffent. Her best work yet.
Nate is the Hero this year. This man has toppled every hero that was written this year. Smith once again shows she knows her audience by giving us this magnificent man. I Flove Him. I want to Marry him when I grow up. He is what men should be made off. Nate would do just about anything to show Poppy how far she can trust him. How deep that trust is and what lengths he will go to protect her from anyone including himself…
I adored how Poppy didn’t let her chance of Happiness slip through her fingers.
Poppy is a real Hero. She has been through so much shit in life and that didnt kill her spirit. She fought dragons and demons to have her HEA. She almost didn’t need a Prince charming bit she got one anyway. Even if she didn’t think she needed one I was so thrilled she got her own hot caveman….
These two together are chemistry on steroids. Watching Nate fend off any evil that threatens her was Hot and Fucking swoony.
Their sexy time is something you don’t want to miss cos fuck me side ways these two were on Fire.
From the First page to the Prologue. From the side characters, past characters to new charaters all grip you and don’t let escape.
I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would.
Grab it, Devour it and then SCREAM and tell the world how amazing it is…
Enjoy!!!!

4 “rough start but totally worth it” Stars
Being a fan of Ms. Smith’s writing and having read the previous Wallflowers stories, I was eager to jump into One Heart Remains – Poppy and Nate’s story. And while I struggled a bit in the beginning, I’m very happy I powered through as I ended up enjoying their courtship just as much as I expected.
Let me get this out of the way first: I’m a firm believer that reading and enjoyment of said reading depends a great deal on the reader’s mood. As sometimes happens when you read an ARC copy, you don’t really have the luxury of waiting to be in the mood for certain topics or tropes, you need to finish the book ASAP. And herein laid my struggle when I first started this one, as I was not in the mood at all for a heroine to be in denial and run away from the hero at every turn.
I have loved Poppy’s quirkiness, sarcasticness and all over the place thought process since we first met her. And getting to be in her head, I loved all of this even more. So even though the first 30% of the book was a pain in my patootie and had me skimming over her self-doubt and self-worth issue monologues, once she opened herself up to Nate’s pursuit and healing, I had no more complaints.
Nate was the main reason I powered through the slow beginning, as he pulls his head out of his patootie from moment one and sets to win Poppy over and help her overcome all her childhood issues. He was alpha, bossy, protective and possessive… everything I was hoping him to be and more. He was p-e-r-f-e-c-t perfect.
“You’re mine, and you fuckin’ know it. If you try to fighting this, I’ll just wear you down until I’m exactly where I’m meant to be.”
Nate had some issues of his own, as well as encouraging Poppy to fight hers. Their chemistry was off the charts scorching and their time together was not only hot, but emotionally satisfying as hell.
“I’m gonna fuck you hard. Make you scream with release; then I’ll do it all over again until the only thing you feel is wanted. Fuckin’ beautiful.”
“There’s no goin’ back. If I claim this body, I won’t give it back. You’re fuckin’ mine.”
While this can be read as a standalone, it kicks off exactly where the last book finished: in the middle of a scene where the poop has hit an industrial size fan and it’s spattered everywhere…so if you don’t want to be completely lost for the first bit, I recommend reading at least Double Trouble before jumping into this one.
With an absolute perfect broody, sexy alpha and a quirky and sassy damsel in distress, action, some mystery and really hot shenanigans,One Heart Remains charmed me in spite of the rough start. It left me with a goofy smile at all the Wallflowers antics and I can’t freaking wait to get to read Aunt Bernice’s story!!!!!!
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book*
Poppy and Nate were a fabulous end to the Wallflowers stories. Poppy is severely traumatized (not broken, though she thinks she is) from events in her childhood. Nate is also a survivor of abuse and trauma and feels that he’s not worth Poppy’s love. The snark and sarcasm these two toss out, along with the bedazzling of Gertie, make for a beautiful end to how the Wallflowers found their HEAs.
Even with drama, suspense, and danger in the air, Poppy, Nate, and their friends manage to stick together like the chosen family they are to find the answers to their problems. Poppy discovers that having family closer than she’d imagined, a father who always loved her, and the love of a good man can help heal her wounds…along with some good therapy. Nate, meanwhile, discovers that love can heal him and that the love of a good woman is sweeter than just about anything else in life and decides to stop trying to hide his heart from the woman he’s loved since their first meeting. I also especially enjoyed the tie-in to Aurora Rose Reynolds’s Until world and can’t wait to see Bernice and Joe again next year.
I truly appreciate the realness that CP Smith brought to this story. She gave us the dark, the ugly, the love that can let the light in, and the truth that talking to a professional can all work together in harmony to make a person whole again. She managed to keep the story relatively light (meaning no super-dark, but there could be triggers for some survivors) while showing how deep a man’s love can truly run for a woman and what lengths he’ll go to in order to help her heal herself. Overall, she wowed me again with her ability to spin a story that I was loathe to put down, yet sad to finish at the same time. Well played, CP. Well played.
