I enjoyed this romance story. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites. This is a well written story that has characters that bring the story to life on each page. This is a fast paced story about Susan who has moved to start a new life and a new business. Then you have Eric who has someone trying to take his land and business. The last thing he expected was to fall in love. What will fate have in store for them? They are great characters and made the story feel realistic. This is an engaging story that kept me reading to the end. I highly recommend this book and this author.
This is my first read by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. While it has the romance, it also has suspense and mystery and found myself wanting to solve things along with them.
The character were great, each with their own distinct personality and way about them. I will be diving into the rest of this series!
I was pleasantly surprised with how much I loved this book! I went into it thinking it was going to be a cheesy romance, which let’s face it, would not be a bad thing. Along with a romance, there was a mystery, danger, and surprising plot twist that kept you guessing the entire time. My opinions of various characters kept switching around and adjusting with every few pages. Will definitely recommend, and will definitely read again! Looking forward to the next!
Eric Walker is a true cowboy at heart, he lives on his own and runs a business on a ranch where he boards horses and raises beef cattle, he has a big family nearby and a routine and structure in his life which he has developed over time, but that all changes when his grandfather dies. Susan Hayes has moved to Georgia to make a new life for herself, she is running her own catering business and has dreams of opening her own restaurant, so she attends culinary school on the nights where she isn’t catering for parties and events, but all that is about to change when she caters for a funeral at the Walker estate.
Eric prefers his own company to that of his family, so when he goes to his family’s house, he is not in the best of moods, because he has already had to spend the day before interacting with them all, so when he storms into the back door of the house to listen to the reading of the will, the last thing he expects to see is the caterer and he is the last thing she is expecting to see either. They are both immediately struck by the other, but when Eric starts to pinch food off of her platters before they are even set up, she knows that he is trouble personified, however, she is intrigued by him during their small conversation and Eric cannot stop conversing with her despite the fact that it is completely out of his character, that is until he is summoned into the study with the rest of the family.
As the will is being read, some shocking family secrets come out of the woodwork when they find out that they are going to have to relinquish half of their lands back to their original owners as payment of a gambling debt which his Uncle got himself into, they also find out that there are other things mentioned which make the entire group angry and stressed out, especially Eric as the part of the land is the one on which he has built his life, business and home. Susan meanwhile is doing her best not to listen in to the raised voices and keep her professional demeanor in tact, however, when the conversation comes round to one of Eric’s cousins that she needs a place to stay while she is visiting, Susan immediately offers her a place to stay as she is in need of a roommate and also needs help in the business, so she offers a job as well. Eric’s cousin is taken aback at the ofer and agrees to think about it before leaving to escape to Eric’s house and away from the family she doesn’t believe even want her there. It is during this conversation and the rest of the afternoon that Eric realises that he cannot get Susan out of his mind, so when his cousin calls to go and see the house, he jumps at the chance to see Susan and get a glimpse into her life at the same time. One house tour and dinner later, the deal is done and Susan is inadvertently invited for breakfast at Eric’s, despite the fact that he cannot cook and has a houseful of drunken brothers when he returns home.
The next day, Susan surprises Eric with a lunch at his home, when this goes well, he insists on the breakfast date again and when he wakes up early and goes to see to his horses, he surprisingly finds Susan already up at the barn taking photographs, also to his amazement and hers, they end up in a passionate kiss before being interrupted by one of Eric’s brothers. As the days progress and Eric and Susan become more involved, Eric’s family troubles are just getting started, as well as the land, they also want to move his mother’s gravesite, then he finds out that his horse and one of the horses boarded in his barn, as well as six head of cattle have been poisoned and none survive the ordeal, including his partner in crime and best friend. He is torn up and turns to Susan for comfort, but will their newly forged bond be enough to see them through the hard times to come, or will their pasts get in the way of what could be something beautiful? As things turn from bad to worse, will Eric survive the attempts on his life, or will his Walker pride prevail and see him through? This is a romantic suspense with secrets, revelations, romance and grief all rolled up into one fantastic package which will leave you wanting to read more.
Walker Pride by Bernadette Marie draws you in with its drama, southern charm, and character development. This is my first by Bernadette Marie and I am excited this series goes deep!
Susan moves to Georgia from Colorado and, in the midst of his family tragedy, meets Eric Walker. Eric is set in his ways, but is taken by Susan. She is trying to join a new community and get her business off the ground. He is in deep with family drama and mystery. Can they handle it all and find love together?
The character development, drama, and suspense keep you turning the page and will keep me coming back for the subsequent books in this series!
Great start to a series. This story definitely has some twists and turns I did not see coming. The plot flowed so easily in this book. I love the chemistry between Susan and Eric, even though Eric is a bit set in his ways and stubborn, there is not denying their attraction. When a Walker family member passes away, there are family secrets that come out…..and I was shocked on some things that do happen (I wont give them away). This was a easy read and and I did not want the story to end!
Bernadette Marie once again knocked it out of the park with Walker Pride. It is the first book in the Walker Family series. This book centers around the eldest of the Walker children, Eric. We first meet him as he is dealing with his grandfather’s death. There were many characters in the story including 5 children each by Everett and Byron Walker. Surprisingly, it did not get confusing. The focus stayed on a small amount of characters, making it easy to keep up with who was who. There were also some context clues if you forgot who someone was. I found myself identifying with love interest Susan Hayes. She is a strong woman who has overcome much, yet allows herself to take a chance on love again. Eric is clumsy and awkward dating Susan which just made him even more endearing. Not only was this a romance, there was mystery. I was certain I knew who was behind the property destruction and animal deaths. I was completely wrong! I highly recommend reading this book. It was fun and kept me hooked!
5/5 Stars
Walker Pride (The Walker Family #1) by Bernadette Marie
This is the first book I’ve read by Marie. To say that this book was fantastic would be an understatement. I can’t put into words how much I love this book.
Susan moved from Colorado to the lovely state of Georgia. She is getting her business off the ground by going to trade school and catering. She doesn’t expect to fall in love with the Walker Family and one Eric Walker. The quote I chose for Susan is: “I always thought it would be interesting to be a mail carrier or even a trash collector. Can you even imagine what they know?”
Eric is a homebody. He doesn’t like others being in his space. When his uncle decides that he wants to gamble away some of the Walker land he gives away Eric’s home. The quote I chose for Eric is: “You pave a path for yourself. His has been paved with mistakes the entire family has had to pay for.”
Highly recommended for Western Romance lovers.
Susan is a caterer that has been hired for the will reading at the Walker Farm after the grandfather passes away. She meets Eric the eldest son and is intrigued by him from their first meeting. They both have haunted pasts that have somewhat come to haunt them in their everyday lives now. All of the drama started before they were ever born and it is now being brought to light. Will everything play out as it should or will things come crumbling down. Can’t wait to read more and see what happens.
Bernadette Marie – this author should have been in my library a long time ago because wow do I ever love the stories she writes. I love a good rom com. Give me two independent, sassy main characters and let me watch them find a relationship. Throw in the right amount of family drama and obstacles and emotion and I’m there. I loved everything about this book and can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
Walker Pride is the first book of the Walker Family series by Bernadette Marie. I discovered this book to have exceptionally well-developed characters. Eric Walker was the oldest brother that lived in a house on the far edge of the property where he ran a horse-boarding business. When he has to go to the main house for the reading of his grandfather’s will, he encounters Susan Hayes. After a few pleasantries were exchanged, his stepmother hurries him into the office where Eric’s whole world gets flipped upside down. His uncle Byron had gambled away the property and house that Eric had been on, and his grandfather had paid the debt by willing the property to Elias Morgan. Obviously upset, Eric hangs about with his cousin Bethany for a while. Bethany was in search of a place to live since the death of her mother. Ironically, Susan was in search of someone to be a roommate and help with her larger catering jobs. Eric intrigued with Susan and goes with Bethany to see Susan’s home. They end up going to dinner, and Eric pays. He tells Susan “You owe me one.”
The plot thickens with Eric’s violent interaction with Tyson Morgan. Susan and Eric develop a “thing” that they try to define and eventually settle on a possible long-term relationship. One morning, Eric discovers that someone has poisoned some of his horses and the cattle start dying as well. Who would do this? Eric suspects the Morgans and goes insane when he discovers Susan’s car at their home. I was shell shocked when I discovered the answers and the extreme secrets that are revealed as the story continues to unfold. This is a book that I cannot even think of scoring less than 5-stars. If you are looking for a romance story with mystery and fast pace revelations, this is one I would recommend highly.
This was the first time reading a book by this author but was a recommendation from a friend so I thought I would pick it up and give it a try. I’m glad that I did. While I didn’t immediately get into the story I am glad that I continued reading because it turned out to be a fantastic book. I expected it to be just a romantic story, but it contained quite a bit of suspense as well. The author did a really great job with the twists and turns she incorporated into this book and I found myself really wanting answers and the truth. The main characters are so different, yet so alike and meant for one another. I can’t wait to read the next installment in this family read.
This was a great book! I seriously can’t wait for the next book in the series! Walker Pride is book 1 in the Walker Family series by Bernadette Marie. Susan is trying to build her catering business up so she moves to Georgia. Eric is part of the Walker clan and basically just wants to be left alone to do what he always does, which is to take care of the land that he lives on. That is until a family member passes away and all hell comes to head. At the reading of the will, Eric stumbles upon Susan while she caterers this luncheon. She is a bit intriguing to him and he finds himself wanting to know more. Susan just got divorced not too long ago but Eric Walker is interesting and not to mention, pretty hot. I agree that this book was a little bit slow at first but quickly picks up and becomes a serious page turner! I loved the characters and the little bit of mystery with all the family secrets. This is definitely a book that I would recommend and will wait quite anxiously for the next book in the series!
Walker Pride (The Walker Family Book 1) by Bernadette Marie is a western romance story.
Susan Hayes relocated to Georgia to start a new life and advance her catering business. Eric Walker and his family appeared in her life just as she was about to achieve all she had ever desired. Eric Walker’s life had been peaceful, orderly, and uninteresting until his uncle squandered away the family’s assets, putting Eric’s livelihood in jeopardy. He fell in love in the middle of family secrets being revealed, someone damaging his company, and someone attempting to force him off his farm. Things will never be the same for them again, especially if the Walker family is destroyed and Eric is killed.
I loved every page of it. I can’t wait to read the rest of the other books in this series to find out what happens.
Walker Pride (Book 1 of The Walker Family Series) by Bernadette Marie was a really good read! I wasn’t sure how I would like it at first, as the beginning was a little dry, but it definitely picked up the pace and got very interesting. The best part of this novel comes towards the end though. Eric reminded me so much of Wayne from Letterkenny (it’s a TV for those who don’t know) I couldn’t help but laugh at some of his sayings and what he does in this novel. I was shocked by some of the content, of course in a good way, and this novel was definitely not what I expected when I first started reading it. I can’t wait to read the next installment!
Susan and Eric are both trying to write new chapters of their lives Eric is working as a horse boarder.. Susan is running a catering business. A chance encounter brings them together and their life is never the same. Loss, family secrets, family feuds, more secrets, romance and more bring them together to discover how much life can bring.. A well-written plot that runs smoothly with a few twists is a nice joy. The characters are quite entertaining personalities that are each unique I’ve known some ranch hands in the area and she nails it.
This is the first book in The Walker Family series. This is a Western Romance novel and is 204 pages. This story follows Susan and Eric. Susan divorced a year ago and moves to Georgia to start a catering business. Eric’s uncle gambled away the family property and now someone wants Eric dead. A family secret he needs to uncover as it is destroying his livelihood and even possibly his life.
This is the 1st book in the Walker Family Series. It is a lovely story about love and overcoming difficulties. The author does a great job at making the characters likeable and relatable.
Susan has moved to Georgia for a fresh start. She has big plans t open her new restaurant. She had plans and goals. What she doesn’t expect is Eric to come in a mess them all up.
Eric is a bit of a longer. Happy with his own company. After finding out he was going to lose his home because of a bet his uncle lost, Eric doesn’t know where to turn or what to do…
There is an instant connection between Erica and Susan but with them both having problems in their life’s can they over come them together or will secrets from their posts stop them from having a future.
Walker Pride is the first book in the Walker Family Series by Bernadette Marie. I had only previously read 1 book by this author but I had really enjoyed it and was looking forward to reading the start of a new series.
I really enjoyed this first book. This could end up being a very long series as the Walkers are one very big family and I’m sure all will have great stories to tell. AS the book continued more and more siblings, cousins etc were added to the clan.
In this book we get the story of the Eldest brother Eric. At risk of losing everything he has worked for due to a bet made by his Uncle, he’s determined to do everything possible to save his house and livelihood. He doesn’t have room for distractions but can’t help be extremely distracted by the beautiful Susan Hayes, the caterer at his Grandfather’s funeral.
I adored Eric and Susan’s story. There is so much more than just a romance story in this book. There is danger, drama and intrigue as well as feuding families. Susan and Eric are both great characters to read and I could have read about the two of them for hours and hours. This story was highly entertaining and keeps you gripped to the storyline to see what happens next.
Definitely recommend.
This is a good story with A LOT going on.
Susan is following her dream and opening up her business in a new town. The last thing she needs in her life is a broody cowboy that she can’t seem to get off her mind. After her last relationship, she wants to protect her heart at all costs. But somehow the cowboy is finding his way in.
Eric works hard and keeps to himself. His family’s land is his world…and it is being threatened to be taken away from him due to Uncle’s bad decisions. One day he crosses paths with a woman that he can’t seem to stop thinking about. He is a loner, and he’s fine with that…but why Susan vacate his thoughts?!?
While Eric and Susan are dancing around their feelings for each other and their need to protect their own hearts…there is so much going on in the story. There is mystery…secrets that are going to blow your mind…a southern family filled with cowboys…and food that will make your mouth water!
I enjoyed reading this book. It is not my first book from this author…and it definitely won’t be the last. There is so much going on that I am looking forward to reading the next book. I am invested in this family now!
