“Those damned men. What the hell were they thinking running her down like they were?” He looked up at Khan when he growled. “What you got to say, boy? Spill it.”“She’s human. Ok, it’s that time again. ‘Walker’ is the first book in Kathi S. Barton’s “Bowen Boys” series. It was released back in April 2013 and I hadn’t read it yet. So for those of you who have, then you know what an intriguing shifter romance storyline this book has. For those who haven’t, let me assure you of what a great book this is. If you’ve read the blurb, you know Caitlynne, Lynne, is being deliberately pursued in the woods by two men trying to kill her. As she’s trying to hide behind a tree to catch her breath and ease up the pain of her present injuries a large black panther is staring at her. She hears her pursuers approaching and knows they will bring harm to the large cat if she can’t think of something quick. So she picks up a rock and throws it before her and the panther run in the opposite direction. When she literally cannot go any further she props herself up by a tree and buries under the leaves with the thought of her perishing by the panther or the Ingram brothers. She’s hoping the panther. Walker Bowen is a werepanther, a doctor, and the second oldest of the Bowen boys. He’s the one called to come to check on the woman who saved his father’s life. With all the blood everywhere it’s not hard for Walker to realize this human is his mate but with his father retiring and his older brother, Khan, becoming the leader of their group, Khan has forbidden her to be on the property much less helping her. If you know anything at all about Kathi S. Barton’s writings, then you know she always has headstrong, resilient characters with personality flaws that make them completely relatable. The villain is always a little off-kilter mentally with a skewed sense of logic. This storyline is no different. There’s intrigue, mystery, murders, deception, disloyalty, and yet it’s filled with the love of family, loyalty, love, and protection. I loved the story and am excited to finish this new to me series.
Who knew running for her life would lead Caitlynne to the one person who could give her life meaning?
Caitlynne McCray has the kind of job that not everyone can do. She can’t even begin to imagine a man wanting to stand by her side, knowing she can protect them both better than anybody ever could. But Walker Bowen isn’t one to just walk away even when his brother has forbidden him from seeing her.
**”You poor thing. So much love could be yours but for the hatred of another of your kind. She hurt his brother and now…”**
From the moment Walker Bowen sniffed out Caitlynne to help her he’s known she is his mate. But because another human has hurt their leader, Caitlynne unknowingly is putting a strain on the family. Will Walker be able to help him see not all humans are like the one that hurt him? Or will Caitlynne’s past come back and hurt them all?
Caitlynne and Walker are a really great couple together.
She tends to be on the more serious side, while Walker is able to always break up tension with his humor.
**”I love you, Caitlynne. More than I ever dreamed possible, I love you. Beside, the alimony to you would kill me.”**
