My favorite of the CHAOS series (so far). I’ve reread parts of this book (no, not JUST the sexy parts!) several times. When she loses it in the compound…just wants to be left alone…I love that part. Love the whole thing.
I loved this very much! great story. mc books are my very favorite.
I discovered Kristen Ashley on BookBub, and within a few pages of the first of her books I read, I became addicted. She is a fabulous story teller. Her characters can be similar, and the sex scenes are quite specific. But I have absolutely loved every one of her books I’ve read (and I’m just finishing my 11th…with several more already lined up). Many authors are good writers, but it’s so hard to find really great story-tellers. Kristen Ashley is a rock star (and yes, that is a pun on her “Rock Chick” series).
Excellent author and wonderful book. Loved the characters and their friends.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started this book, I had been told it was a tear-jerker, and I braced myself for that. Maybe because I was braced, or maybe because I saw the beauty and not only the pain, but while I teared up a few times, no ugly crying happened. Mille and High are a second chance for the ages. Still so in love, still so connected, the years melted away when they saw each other again. It was rocky and hard, shards cutting and emotions out-of-control at first, but when it all came down to it, what they felt for each other won over everything else. Still not an easy path, but as they weaved their lives back together, the timing was right now. It might have been right before, but it was really, really, right now. We also got to see more of the Chaos story being moved along, Tack, Hound, and the ole ladies, plus Elvira, meddling, helping, hurting, and healing, as well as planning for the future, all in their own ways. I didn’t know what to expect from High and Millie, but they worked their way into my heart, and I am happy to hold them there!
The year 2020 has been chaotic to say the least, focusing has been difficult so what’s the remedy for me? Re-reading favorites. Kristen Ashley’s older books are a comfort for me, I already know going in that the hero will be uber alpha, women are going to be awesome and the storyline will keep me riveted. Walk Through Fire is book 4 in the Chaos series. I do have to say Carissa and Joker’s story in Ride Steady is my favorite in this series, but for one reason or another I really needed Millie and High’s story. Even though I have read this many many times throughout the years I still ball my eyes out reading what these two go through. Millie sacrificed so much to give High what she thought he deserved. It was so so difficult the way Millie was treated in the beginning (hence the 4 stars) and when she finally had it and laid it all out, I had tears rolling down my face. Then to see the realization of the devastation that High had caused, he redeemed himself trying to heal Millie from all that pain. There are so many more emotional, gut wrenching scenes that occur, but to finally see the both of them have their happily ever after made my heart sing! I won’t go much more into the book, there are over a thousand reviews already. But I did want to mention one more scene that melted my heart, when Millie decided to adopt two little kitties and the reaction from High, talk about swoon worthy! I feel more re-reads of old favorites coming.
This book was rude and raunchy, but also deeply emotional. I lapped it up. Nobody depicts a well-rounded view of a life inside a motorcycle club – the loyalty among club members, the devotion to family, the rough edges, the danger, the treatment of women, the sex – quite like Kristen Ashley.
High and Millie share a glorious and tragic past. 20 years have passed since the young lovers had a sudden, devastating breakup and I was fascinated by the ways they both changed. High lives solely for his kids. Millie is a ghost of her formerly vibrant self.
The road back to each other is paved with revenge, misunderstandings, and complicated family dynamics. As with all Ashley books, this one is very long (615 pages; 18 hours of audio). However, it’s and engaging story and by the end I still wanted more time with Millie and High.
Awesome book! One of my absolute favorite authors and this whole series is wonderful! Great writing, realistic story with enjoyable characters and a story line that holds you captivated.
So, this book keeps me on the fence because I both love and hate it at the same time. Kristen Ashley is one hell of a compelling writer. When she hits the mark in some of her stories she uses a sledgehammer to drive her characters’ feelings through your heart. I read some reviews which described the plot as unbelievable. I found the opposite to be true. I was able to sink into this story easily, and then I was just as easily jarred out of it a few times. It’s overly descriptive with superficial details about home decor, bed sheets and those two bratty kids belonging to the H. There’s lots more unnecessary information overload that slows down the pace of the story. The reason this bothers me? Because the love story is really epic, unusual, and gut-wrenching. A bit over the top? Yes, but if you are going to read anything of that sort you should only read how Kristen Ashley does it. Her dialogue is unique to this series and the characters and it’s spot on in this book and then some. There are some scenes in this book that made me stop reading because I couldn’t breathe and my heart was pounding so hard.(Yeah, I was probably crying too.) I still think the first book in this series is the best by far, this one would have to be #2 even with the parts, which were entirely a persnickety preference issue of mine, that I didn’t care for included in that measurement. Wear your big girl panties when you read this book, you will need them!
Not that any books in this series tend to tell an easy romance, but some are harder than others on the emotions. This was one of them. It was both a fantastic read and a not so stellar one all rolled into one.
I’m going to rabbit trail about that for a moment because…hafta. Just have to get this off my chest without spoilering it or getting into a true rant. This is the second time I’ve read about one of KA’s heroines who pulled the plug on a true love relationship and let it stay unplugged for two decades. And for the second time, once I had all the facts, I didn’t buy it. I’m not saying that I expect perfect, non-flawed characters because that wouldn’t make for interesting reading and I never have seen romance fiction as very realistic, but I do have my preferences when it comes to my non-reality. Sometimes, I let this sort of thing go for the benefit of reading a book that I really want to read regardless of how the set up bugs me and that is what I did even while muttering to myself.
Alright so back to the book thoughts. This is book four in the Chaos series. It could be read out of order and works, but personally I got more out of it already having had the stories of the other surrounding characters. And truthfully, KA loves to crossover from her other older series so there are characters popping in from at least three other series that came earlier. It’s always like a reunion and ongoing epilogue for those others. New readers will be more intrigued than put off, I think. Though I’m going to add that while I think this one can standalone, its not a good one for judging whether one will enjoy the series. Hard and harsh stuff goes down in the beginning that is unique to this pair of protagonists and the whole series isn’t like that.
The story opens with event planner, Millie Cross, suddenly spotting a man who was once her everything before she smashed what they had and sent him away. Twenty years have gone by and she overhears his phone conversation making her finally want to come clean about stuff she didn’t tell him back then. Only, when she gets her chance, Logan decides to do his own fair amount of heartshattering. He has not forgiven her and only seeks to hurt her like she hurt him and the brothers of Chaos, his MC, are behind him all the way. Millie now realizes the full extent of what she set in motion back then and that she should have never tried for closer.
Logan ‘High’ Judd once loved a woman and she was his everything until one day she pushed him out her door with no explanation making it clear that nothing of the last three years was real to her. It sent him spiralling down so he lived in a dark, dangerous world going through the fire when his club split open and reformed into something new. He moved on with another woman that he didn’t love and now he only lives for his little girls and his club. What is Millie playing at? He will show her that he will win this game she has suddenly decided to play be re-entering his life.
Logan and Millie cut and bleed each other to the point of agony and it is then that the healing might be able to take place. Millie once again comes alive and Logan might find forgiveness even while the drug cartel makes dangerous moves against Chaos MC.
Alright, so this was never going to be an easy one and it gets downright ugly. A lot of poison festered under the surface after Millie ended her relationship with Logan. The harsh treatment and the angst was the healing process for these two. It was hard to read, but I didn’t want to stop reading either. These are older characters and yet they were in limbo for years only coming alive for each other. Millie pulled a stupid back in the day and now it isn’t easy and there are long-term repercussions for it. I liked that KA had a good grasp on cause and effect with all that even down to how broken and mixed family situations would play out. Even while I didn’t care for the twenty year thing and Millie’s reason for destroying her romance, I could still appreciate the story that came out of it.
This pair are hot and I enjoyed them together once they got through what they needed to. I loved the surrounding Chaos characters and ongoing storyline with the series, too. Wow, Valenzuela is one chilling dude. Look forward to more with that situation.
So, all in all, it was mostly a strongly engaging read for me, and as always, I enjoy the author’s storytelling and want more Chaos. I would recommend these to those who enjoy biker romance that get hot, but are about moderate on the MC side.
I cut my KA teeth on the Dream Man and Colorado series and instantly fell in love with this author’s writing. Some of the later books she has written have been good but not as great as the earlier books I read (IMO). I loved this book because it reminded me of the first books I read by her. I don’t have a problem with the long separations between two people because in real life that happens. Second chance romances are hugely popular but I can understand why some readers don’t particularly care for them. The depth of love Millie and High have for each other grabbed me and pulled me in completely. Yes, he treats her badly when she shows back up in his life but I could totally understand why. The main point is that he caved and realized he had never let her go and that their love had survived. Don’t make assumptions before you read the story about High leaving Millie or vice versa until you read the details on the separation. Bad choices made by both of them ended up causing many regrets. This is a book I will read again.
A roller coaster of emotions, the nosy, yet well-intentioned sisterhood, an unexpected, but beautiful second chance romance, all kinds of sexy, as well as the ups-and downs-of divorced parenthood…. If the first half of the book had me saying WTH, the second half had me thinking Hallelujah, they finally see the light!
This book turned out so much better than I was expecting!
Kristen Ashley did it again. I hope she keeps writing about our Chaos family. I can’t get enough of them.
What can I say. Once I found out this book was coming after reading the chapter teaser ( this always gets me,I have a love hate relationship with chapter teasers it makes me impatient). Millie and High’s (“Logan to you Millie”) tragic but a second chance is love you will not want to stop reading. I loved this book so much.
The one thing that I’ve learned reading Kristen Ashley’s books over the years is, settle in. You’re in for a great long ride. I read the paperback and whew, almost 600 pages. The good thing is, her writing style makes it go quickly so you’re not bogged down by huge paragraphs with a ton of inner monologue. Sure, there were a couple of parts that I didn’t really care about, but I know it’s all part of the story so I pushed through.
Millie and High had insta love in their 20’s. Millie, to me, made a very hard decision and a huge sacrifice that changed their relationship. I really liked Millie, but I tend to like all of the authors female leads. They’re not weak and can hold their own against their men.
High/Logan/Snookums/Snook/Babe/Baby (take your pick), like all of her other male characters, is a huge alpha. Kristen does great alpha. The sexy times between the two are hot and steamy! He can tell me what to do any time!
Overall, it’s a great story and I love that we get to see past characters from her other series. They’re all family!
This is one of my favorite books by my favorite author, Kristen Ashley. I read it every year. Ms Ashley had a way with words and this book will NOT disappoint.
Freaking love High now. He was never my favorite Chaos member, but I’m thinking he might be now. Or maybe Joker. Well, okay, Tack is still my favorite. But as always, KA delivers awesome characters. I adored Millie and High together, just so perfect. That said, while I agree that the reason Mille left was… wrong, and I would never have done it that way, I do understand that at 20/21 and so freaking in love it consumes you, that can make someone act kind of impulsively. That said, wouldn’t there be lots of testing and treatments to try before declaring a woman infertle? And it was freaking awesome to see one of KA’s kid characters act like a brat. Because most of the time, I’m not a huge fan of kids in my romances, with KA’s being an exception because she can write. I always love her kids. That said, Zadie’s behavior was actually realistic and because of that, awesome. Other than family, sisterhood, alpha males and romance, never are KA books repetitive and it’s because of things like that. I loved it.
Logan aka High just doesn’t understand some things about his woman like using a tray and coasters when serving breakfast in bed, “and you make a mint , got a mint invested, and I’m not hurtin’. You get bacon grease on your sheets, babe, we buy new and who gives a eff?” Deep down I think Logan is a sensitive man, “you went to Paris without me.” My mouth dropped open. “That **** ain’t right,” he growled.” I really enjoyed this book, there hasn’t been one book that Kristen has written that I didn’t like.
I love all her books
I love reading about hot motorcycle men with big hearts but are still badass
