Watch out for the Assassin’s Claws… be tough, but the last thing he expected to find was his mate… the president’s own son. The fact that he began the case with plans to seduce his way into the White House via that same son is beside the point. What his mate doesn’t know shouldn’t hurt him…
Nick Jackson is lonely and ordinary in a family of overachievers. He doesn’t want to do photo ops for the press, prep for the next year’s tests over the summer or any of the hundreds of other things his mother hassles him about. All he wants is to relax after his first year of college, work on his tan… and maybe find a boy to flirt with.
This is the first in a new series of short reads. Note: While mpreg exists in this world, we won’t have a birth in every book. This book contains killer cats, ninja bunnies and a life-changing mating bite. Get ready for naughty-knotty fun and low-ball humor as only Susi Hawke can provide.

Portuguese puma shifter assassin brothers? Now, that’s just totally badass! In Susi Hawke’s ‘Walking Tall, Assassin’s Claws Book 1’, the Moreno brothers are told about the U. S. President’s plan to expose the world’s shifter population in addition to implementing policies that will make protected lands vulnerable. Where will shifters run if protected lands can be developed? Something must be done! Clay Moreno pulls the short straw to assassinate the president–a task that is likely to result in death given the vigilance of the Secret Service. His in? The president’s gay son (Nick Jackson) finds Clay hotter than hot and just happens to be Clay’s destined mate. Clay decides to proceed cautiously only to find out the U. S. president was being set up by other politicians, including his own vice president! The story ends with a ‘happily ever after’ as Nick Jackson gets what he wants–a family of his very own in a world that isn’t a fishbowl full of over-achievers. The writer’s world-building is wonderful as ever and we have characters that are simply adorable. Even the villains are cute rabbit shifters, for goodness sake. I just love a Susi Hawke shifter story. I guess that’s one of those things that are not likely to change.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I thought it was a fun concept that Susi uses in this series of a family of shifter ass*ssins. I really like the connection between Clay and Nick but be aware that if you don’t like Instalove stories then this book probably won’t be your cup of tea. I loved how supportive Nick’s parents were of him being gay, even if they’re adamant that he reaches the rest of the families accomplishments and does way better at college which he wasn’t even interested in attending. I also loved how awesome Nick’s family was when they found out about Clay’s situation in that he was sent to them to take out the President of United States and that he can also turn into a Puma. Wow, Ninja Bunnies were really interesting and I can’t wait to hear more about them as the series progresses and after being introduced to all of Clay’s brothers I’m definitely looking forward to reading thier stories. I’d recommend this book, series and author to everyone.

Did I think this book was as cheesy as Nick claims Clay’s lines are? Yes. Absolutely. Could I put it down, and take a break from listening? No. Not a chance. That’s clever storytelling, folks. Hats off to Susi Hawke. I was originally going to give the story 3 stars because of the cheesiness, but I changed my mind. If a story grabs your attention, and holds it, then it gets bonus points.
Nick was a bit of a brat, but I think part of that was because no one was listening to him and what he wants. Being a regular achiever, in a family of overachievers, is not easy. Especially if your family doesn’t accept that. They love him, but they don’t seem to accept that side of him. That all changes when he meets Clay. In fact, everything changes when he meets Clay.
The humor in this book was awesome. Ninja bunnies…lol Another thing this book did, was explain mpreg and knotting. I don’t know a lot about the omegaverse and mpreg, so I appreciated that the author snuck that into the story.
Kenneth Obi, may he rest In peace, did a good job narrating this book. I loved how he could easily switch between voices with heavy accents, to voices without them.

Great characters. Even though it’s fiction, I agree with the ideals of what would happen if shifters were real and there presents became known. Well written and well edited.
How Susi”s mind developes these plots and characters is beyond me.
Shifters, assassin’s, presidents and sex, what more could we ask for.

We expect nothing less from a Susi Hawke book, great writing, great characters. I have no idea how her mind works and I’m sure I don’t want to see into it. But whatever is within, it comes out perfectly in her books.
Always entertaining, never what you expect. Great characters, great plots.
Read this book a long time ago and loved it, but on Audio it’s even better. Would highly recommend.
Brilliant narration by the late great Kenneth Obi
Clay is not only an assassin but a cat shifter. He gets a hit on the American president because the president is supposedly about to out the shifter world and the shifters have to keep that secret under wraps. Clay uses Nick the president’s son as his in. Little did he know Nick was his mate.
This is a fun intriguing story. I had heard a lot about this series but just got around to it. It is fast-paced had some humor and drama. A nice healthy mix to keep the story fun and light.
Kenneth Obi gives each person a distinctive voice and I adored Nick’s voice and personality. Kenneth gave all the right excitement, intonations, and expressions in his voice.
If your looking for a short, sweet shifter romance and like Assassins and true mates this is for you.
I’ll admit, I’m kinda biased when it comes to Susi’s books, but this is a great pick me up with fated mates, high stakes, action-filled thriller elements that kept me on the edge of my seat until the last page! A quick read you can easily finish in one sitting.
Another great series begins!! I was hooked just by reading the plot and the story did not disappoint. Yeah the relationship between Nick and Clay progressed very rapidly but that fairly normal in fates mates stories. The plot was very intriguing and I’m interested to see if it carries on throughout the rest of the series….
Wow! This book was so interesting and unique! I love Clay and Nicks relationship and really liked the plot line and conflicts that arose during this book. I enjoy stories with shifters and finding true mates! This book is fabulous!
The shifter assassin and the President’s son?
What a great start to a new series! Susi has created a wondrous world filled with intriguing characters. There are quirky families, deception, loyalty, hot sex, and an honest politician. There are true mates. And ninja bunnies. What’s not to love!
This story follows Clay, puma shifter assassin, and Nick, son of the President of the United States, who is also Clay’s target. Clay goes by his gut, which tells him this job is “off”. To get the truth he must get closer. Closer leads him to Nick, his true mate. The attraction is immediate, hot, and unbreakable.
These two men are meant to be together. Fated. They well have to overcome many bumps in the road, but HEA is assured. Both are hiding things. When they finally share their secrets, things combust.
You will love this book! While not a cliffhanger, some things are not resolved.
The next book will pick up where this one leaves off. I. Can. Not. Wait!
