Nicholas “Nico” Johnson, aka ‘Hulk’. The man got past all my defenses despite my efforts to keep him at a distance. It’s a lost cause because our bodies call to each other, like a moth to a flame, we give in. Time and time again we come together and crackle like lightning. I said we were done, for good this time, but the funny thing about desire is, you don’t tell it when it’s done, it tells you. … you. Our desire would never be done, oh no baby, it was just getting started.
An impenetrable wall was built around her heart. That’s what she said anyway, but I didn’t care. Lacey Turner was my kryptonite, my Achilles heel. We were the golden couple, the love that everyone secretly wished for themselves, but obstacles keep getting put in our way, testing the strength of our connection.
Our bodies know exactly what to do behind closed doors, but we can’t seem to get it right elsewhere. As long as I can keep her in my bed, I’ll find a way to make everything else fall into place. Just when I think I have it right, there are those obstacles again, but this time we have no choice but to overcome them.
The game between us has always been tied, but with so many extra innings one of us is bound to hit a walk off to end it. Lacey finally does it with those two little words…and no they aren’t home run.
This is book 5 in the Double Play Series and should be read in order. Mature content. 18+.

Nico and Lacey were both living the single life to the fullest, neither one going back for repeats because they didn’t want to get hurt. Then when they are forced to go on a double date with Bella and Damon (Nico is Damon’s younger brother and Lacey is Bella’s roommate and cousin) the chemistry is off the charts and neither one wants to commit or walk away. But life has a funny way of working out and three years later they have been off and on the entire time but neither one seeing any one else during that time.
I was worried about this one since we had already seen their relationship through the last two books and I wasn’t sure I wanted to re-read it all. But it wasn’t like that and I really enjoyed the execution on this one. Nico and Lacey have a mountain of issues against them and that is how this book plays out – with them trying to navigate their issues in present day. They are going to therapy and during their therapy sessions we get flash backs to provide insight into the some of the things we had questions about in the first two books. Some don’t like flash backs but I loved them in this book. It was perfect. Nico was amazing, I really loved they way that he was committed to Lacey and wasn’t going to give up no matter what roadblocks were put up by anyone. And boy there were some doozies. Lacey kind of irked me. She seemed too angry IMO for what was revealed as her issue with men but then the drama with her mom made my heart break for her. Another hot read from Nicole that I recommend.
I’m so glad i discovered this author on social media. I really wasnt expecting to enjoy these books but they have been great!
Getting a look in to Lacey & Nico’s turbulent relationship was really good, it was edge of seat gripping, fun, heartfelt and lovely. Thank you for sharing these stories with us!
OMG, so… Walk Off is Lacey Turner, daughter of Jackson and Savannah — whom I simply LOVED– (from Book 2- Going, Going, Goner) and Nicholas “Nico” Johnson’s (brother to Damon Johnson, Book 3- Ballers with Benefits) story and it’s got all the feels… not unlike the other books in this lovable sports romance series, but this one really got me RIGHT in the feels!!
Lacey Turner is EVERYTHING. She’s sassy, feisty, strong, beautiful and even has a sweet side she doesn’t want many people to see. She’s a heroine that you are gonna love… and get pissed off at… during the course of this book. Ha ha! But her story breaks your heart, over and over again. She works with Bella, her cousin, Charlotte, her aunt, and Savannah, her mom, at Double Play.
And Nico…guuuhhhh…. Drool… That’s all I can say about this dirty-mouthed, sex-crazed, yet amazingly smooth-talking hunk of muscle. He’s totally swoony with his big build (I love me a man with some big muscles), unconventional charm…and the mouth of a porn-star sailor. LOL! But, seriously! Nicole describes him with “the body of The Hulk and the face of Thor”. Need I say anything else? He’s been Lacey’s boyfriend (on and off again) for the last three years and he’s an ambitious baseball player… one she never intended to get wrapped up with but… well, re-read this paragraph to see why. (wink, wink)
So… Nico and Lacey… together they are hot, hot, hot!!! Their passion for dominance and one another is literally ON FIRE in this spicy, sexy and sassy romance novel which picks up not long after where book 4- Changeup left off.
Lacey and Nico are struggling in their relationship, with several obstacles in their path, which I won’t divulge so as not to throw out any spoilers. (You’re welcome!) We got to see the two of them get together in book 3 and their uncontrollable and fiery desire — that we saw from an outsider prospective but never got to understand fully until now. I loved how the book was set- going back and forth between the present and catching us up with flashbacks that helped piece together the puzzle of what caused Lacey and Nico to be on again and off again when clearly, they were burning up more than just the sheets. Their dirty mouths and minds collide in this book. “Hulk” and “Blondie” are vicious, formidable and can’t keep their hands or mouths off one another- what’s not to love about that kind of heated passion?!
I simply adored Lacey’s beautiful and strong heart and how protective she is of those she loves and I admired Nico’s persistence and obvious love for the one woman who had him coming back again and again for more! These two were so easy to love and their story was endearing, frustrating and heart-breaking all at the same time.
This book will make you laugh, cry, swoon and gasp. As always, Nicole Rodrigues made me fall head over heels for her characters, writing two amazing souls with complex pasts and barriers that were so real and emotional that it hit me hard in more ways than one. And again, with these unbelievably swoony male MC’s… drool, drool, drool… She knows how to write her stuff!
I just love all these books…and the Gavinwoods/Turners/Johnsons… but this one was definitely one of my favs and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next one!!! Squueeee!!!!
Lacey Turner is a no holds barred kind of girl. She knows what she wants, and she takes it, no questions asked. Nicholas Johnson aka Nico is a hot shot baseball player, who also happens to be the brother of Lacey’s best friend and cousin Bella’s husband Damon. When the two meet, the sparks are instantaneous, and their chemistry burns the pages. However, one night changed everything. Nico knows he didn’t do anything wrong, but unfortunately pictures don’t lie…or do they? As Lacey and Nico try to navigate through their issues, outside forces are trying to tear them apart. The question is, are these two strong enough to see the truth, or will they let the outsiders trying to tear them apart win?
This is the fifth book in the Double Play Series, and I definitely recommend reading the first books in this series to fully understand everything that happens in this book. With that being said, this book was a fantastic and quick read. I will say at some points, I just wanted to smack Lacey, but the way that Nicole writes, you want to smack her characters, but you also understand why they act and feel the way they do. I was rooting for Nico and Lacey from the first time we were introduced to them as a potential coupling. Nicole didn’t disappoint with these two. She had me feeling every type of emotion when it came to their relationship with each other. This is a book that you won’t be able to put down!
