DRAGON’S ARE HOT !!
What a fabulous read!!! I Read this in one sitting!!! Juliette cross is a marvelous storyteller her world of dragons are so richly detailed that I could picture each character in my mind And Kol moonring is the most delicious dragon. Moira is a reporter for her college paper the Herald and when the murder of three women killed by what looks to be cult killings, miora goes on the hunt to find what the news is calling the devlin butcher’s when she finds out the dna collected is morgon Dragon DNA she goes undercover to find these murders. When miora gets too close to one of the would be killers barron coalglass things get scary so her brother in law one of the members of the nightwing security sends Morgon’s captain of the guard kol to protect her. Miora doesn t like the cold darkly dominant scarred kol,he is too bossy and always all up in her space with his intense looks and domineering ways ,but no matter how much miora fights him and herself this Dragon is making her feel things she hasn’t felt in a long time. These two have chemistry that is so hot and sexual that no matter how they each fight it they will both give in to fire and kol will take miora to heights she has never known, because when a dragon finds his mate it’s forever! Together they will burn with soulfire, but not before stopping Barron coalglass and the oldest evil monster king who have killed three women and now have set their sites on miora. Kol and Miora’s story is awesome and I can’t wait to read more about these hot sexy morgon dragons, these beasties be sinfully hot!!
I’ve been devouring this series and I’m completely hooked. I don’t have a lot of dragon books under my belt, but I’ve been so fascinated with the Morgon/human world.
Kickass heroines are my favorite and Moira is just that. She’s no damsel in distress and has the right mindset to be a determined reporter. She’s willing to go any length to find answers, even if they’re absolutely crazy and downright dangerous.
Since she’s investing gruesome murders of a few women, she’s constantly putting herself in danger to find out who is behind it all. And that’s when she’s put under the head of the Nightwing security aka Kol. I really enjoyed these two butting heads and of course seeing the lovely heroines make these men fall easily in love with them. It’s always a favorite side to see when it comes to these somewhat alpha men.
When it comes to my paranormal/fantasy reads, I always need a bit more than the romance and trust me, we get plenty of romance to appease my needs. But I loved the underlying the story that will definitely carry through the rest of the series. I have so many questions and am so eager to learn the answers, which I’m sure we will with every book we get through. Cross does a great job weaving both into a super engaging story.
The broody Morgon that is Kol is really protective of Moira, not only because it’s in his job description, but Moira makes him want to do that and so much more. I loved everything that transpired between these two, it’s pretty H-O-T.
I’m definitely looking forward to what’s to come in this phenomenal series! It’s easily one that I can re-read over and over again.
Juliette Cross
At the beginning of this book I felt like I missed something – I probably did a prequel or novella. I also struggled with the hybrid dragon/human thing. By the end, I was totally invested in these Morgan men.
Kol is a Morgan man, quiet and guarded. Moira is a human investigator/journalist and, is a career-minded woman.
They both found each other attractive but they soon found lust and love follows. There is a lot of action and danger, especially for Moira.
I enjoyed the storyline and writing style of the author and will look to read more of this series.
Waking the Dragon is a wonderful and exciting book about humans and Morgons, the delicious dragon hybrid race created by the author. The relationship between the humans and Morgons is tense on a good day but when the bodies of three human women are found in Morgon territory with the DNA of Morgon men, what little thread of civility exists between the two groups disintegrates. When reporter Moira Cade begins investigating, her life takes a dangerous turn. To help keep her save, Moira is paired with Kol Moonring, Captain of the Morgon Guard. Moira’s independence is threatened causing friction between the pair. As the story progresses their slow-burn romance begins to blossom, but the dangers they face may end the relationship before it has time to begin.
I absolutely loved this novel and once I began reading, I was hooked. I devoured it in one sitting. The story is engaging, and the characters are wonderful. I enjoyed the interactions between Moira and Kol. I love the tension the author builds up between the hero and heroine of her stories. I love both Moira and Kol’s characters. The way they are written is swoon-worthy.
Waking the Dragon is a riveting, fast paced story told with passion. I love Juliette Cross’s writing style and the way she tells stories. Waking the Dragon is not my first experience with this author, nor will it be the last. Her ability to create paranormal stories with romance, action and a solid plot is what keeps me coming back.
I was provided a copy of this book to read.
5 “Absolutely Amazing” Stars
Holy wow. There’s really not much else I can say about Waking the Dragon, except that these stories just keep getting better and better.
Like all the other books in this and the prequel series, Nightwing, this can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading them in order so as to maximize the enjoyment.
Moira is the youngest Cade and is focused on making a name for herself as an investigative journalist without any help from her last name. When a series of ritualistic murders arise, she dives headfirst into finding what is really going on and decides to use her connections in the Morgon world to achieve this.
Kol Moonring is the stoic, formidable Captain of the Morgon Guard and he’s in charge of the investigation. Moira’s participation is only agreed on when Kol is assigned as her partner and bodyguard. As danger seems to swirl around Moira, he’ll have a tougher job than he thought.
I freaking loved Moira, she was determined, feisty and had all the sass. She could take care of herself and kick some serious ass and I loved her an extra bunch for this. Her independent streak ran a mile wide and made for some hilarious banter between her and the alpha Morgon.
Kol was pure Morgon yumminess. Bossy, protective and possessive all while being a broody wall of taciturness, he could seriously turn the heat on… and did, on several occasions.
“You can think whatever you want with that logical brain and defiant will of yours. It still won’t change the truth.”
“What truth?”
“That you belong to me. You just don’t know it yet.”
With lots of action, spot on suspense and mystery, Waking the Dragonn was totally amazing. Moira and Kol’s chemistry was off the charts hot, their head-butting more than entertaining and their romance left me completely satisfied. I can’t effing wait to see what happens next and who gets to get heartbound!!!
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book*
I loved being able to enjoy the Morgon world once again. This time Jessen’s little sister Moira, is all grown up and determined to prove herself as an investigative reporter without the Cade influence. The unfortunate murders of human women is her story of choice and proves to be an extremely dangerous situation. Enter Kol Moonring, Captain of the Morgon Guard, friend of the Nightwing clan and reluctant bodyguard to Moira as she continues her research for her story. The unsolved murders are leading to plenty of unrest and the possibility of war between Morgons and humans. As Moira digs deeper into the mystery of the murders, Kol learns to trust his heart and admit he’s in love with her.
We get to meet a few more members of the Morgon Guard in Waking the Dragon as well as several other interesting characters. There’s also a bit more history revealed with some very intriguing implications. I can see so many different threads with potential future story lines that I can’t wait to revisit the Morgon world again and discover the next couple.

That was an awesome read!
I loved the world building, the characters and the story.
If you like the books by Nalini Singh, Lara Adrian or Coreene Callahan, I highly recommend this series.
**********Contains Spoilers**********
I really enjoyed this book. It was a lot darker than the previous Nightwing Books so more time was spent in actually investigating the bodies of 3 human women were found in Morgan only territory, met an extremely horrific end and the DNA from multiple Morgan were found on the bodies. Moira who is an investigative reporter and wants to find out what’s happening to the women and why as these people need to be stopped. She decides to ask her brother in law about it as they own Nightwing Security so are a part of the investigation with the Morgan Guard and they agree to let her assist while she gets the information for her story but while she’s investigating she nearly ends up going out the exit that where the women went missing from until Kol Moonring, the leader of the Morgan Guard stops her and they really didn’t hit it off well. They argue at pretty much every turn but that’s because they’re both scared. Moira because she’s afraid of losing the control over the life she plans to live and Kol because after watching his mum suffer for 7 weeks when their father passed away since they were mates, so shared Soulfire. I loved how much passion Moira and Kol had, even when they were arguing and not ready to admit what they feel for each other. I hope they work out who their traitor or traitors are as they know it must be someone inside Nightwing Security or the Morgan Guard maybe both as they knew the security codes to get into Lucius and Jessen’s house which not everyone would have those codes only a select few. I’m also wondering if Kol and his Kieran sort their sh*t out after all this time and I loved meeting Kieran and their younger sister Valla who happens to be a kicka*se ass*ssin in the Morgan Guard and I’m looking forward to their books next. I’d recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone
Long before anyone I knew started reading Ms. Cross’ books I spotted the original cover of Waking the Dragon and gaga’d over it. It was so drool worthy I got the book then proceeded to harass everyone I knew if they had read the book or heard of the author. Flash forward years later, I’m still drooling over that cover, have read multiple books by this author yet I never read Waking the Dragon. Why? Because I was afraid the story would never match my love of the cover. Completely kicking myself now because it was awesome!
Moira and Kol…YUMS! I loved their byplay and interactions. It had the perfect balance of lust and tension all building up to HELLO! It isn’t all smut. The story about Devlin Butcher murders leaves a reader guessing the whole way through until the end. The whole package of the book with lust, mystery and intrigue, let us not forget, DRAGONS!, was riveting. Why did I wait so long to start this series I will never know. Now that I have, I am hooked. Moving on to the next book!
It’s always the quiet and mysterious ones that get me. It’s like the author made Kol Moonring especially for me. So I’d like to take a quick moment and claim him as #mine. Thank you, Ms. Cross, I gladly accept him.
Moody and broody and utterly divine. Seven foot of Morgon deliciousness had me swooning, tingling, and wanting to climb him like a Morgon man should be climbed.
Moira, the younger sister of Jessen & Demetrius Cade is strong, independent…a relationship is the last thing on her mind. But she can’t ignore or deny the attraction. Something about him makes her want to lose control. And once you meet Kol, you will understand why. He’s bossy and growly, he’s possessive, he’s protective, and he’s oh so beautiful.
This author writes scenes you can SEE, passion you can FEEL, a story you want to DEVOUR.
There is action, plenty of sass, so much heart, and delicious amounts of steam for this romance-lovin’ reader.
Once again, I was pulled into this amazing world and I didn’t want to leave. Kol Moonring stole my heart and I don’t want it back.
Can’t wait to get to the next book in the series!
p.s. Kol is MINE.
Waking the Dragon by Juliette Cross is book One in the Vale of Stars series. This is the story of Moira Cade and Kol Moonring.
Moira is a report for the Herald doing a undercover story of the death that has been happening which has lead her to look in to the dark underworld of Morgon society. When her brother-in-law comes to offer Kol, a Captain of the Morgon Guard to be her body guard…sparks and tempers start to fly.
Moira is a strong determine women that does keep butting heads with the domineering strong Kol.
This book kept me turning pages for sure. I can’t wait to read more from this series and of course this author.
Oh my gosh! I thought I was through with the Nightwing series but this one is a follow-up and I’m even more in love with these Morgon men.
Moira is on the hunt for information regarding a killer unlike any ever seen before. When her efforts link her with Kol, a human/dragon hybrid, she is frustrated and finds him absolutely infuriating. And you know, I love when that happens. Kol is so totally dominate and she’s so totally independent but together they were perfection.
We don’t get Kol’s point of view which I really, really missed because he wasn’t an easy one to read. Nevertheless, we do see him from Moira’s and he’s bristly and controlling but she feels such a draw to him she can’t resist. And when they finally kiss…holy heck! It was intense and the heat between them just continued to build thereafter.
There is a lot of drama and suspense in this story and I was literally on the edge of my seat the entire time. Man, this villain is not one you want to mess with. Definitely something from your worst nightmares. I appreciated that Moira’s character, as strong and resolute as she was, had the sense to know and recognize danger when it was near.
Waking the Dragon’s plot was ever evolving, opening up new veins as well as laying down ground work for future books. I can’t express how much I was involved in every little detail that was revealed and waited breathlessly to find out what would happen next.
The ending was spectacular and while I did want an epilogue, I know there are more books in the series and I’m sure I’ll be seeing Moira and Kol again as they live their happy ever after, even as they fight alongside their friends and family to end the threat against them all.
I guess I was in the minority on this but it really felt to me like the author has hard-core rape fantasies. This was my first novel by this author and from what I now understand there are other, better books in this series which may or may not be read first, but it was a mistake to start with this one. If rape is a trigger for you, stay far, far away. I wish I had.
