This is the story of best friends Dean and Matt. Friends since childhood, they are close but not as close as Dean would like them to be. When Matt moved to Melbourne with his partner, Dean finally let go of his dream for them to one day be together. But when Matt calls to say his relationship has failed, Dean dares to feel a glimmer of hope. But he needs to overcome his own fears if he is to … fight for their happily ever after.
This story was written as part of the MM Romance Group’s 2014 Love’s Landscapes event. The story was written in response to a photo prompt with a very specific request for a story.
Melanie requested the following “He’s been waiting for that text for more than a week. Please tell us either what happens next or what happened to get him here and whether he frowns or smiles next.”

I liked this storyline, but it’s hard to believe that truly best friends would not have spoken their feelings sooner, even if it had been jokingly. And I had been hoping for a proposal in the epilogue. It would’ve made sense. They’ve known and loved each other forever.
You know, I am a huge sucker for gay friends-to-lovers stories… but this was borrrring.
Dean has been friends with Matt since he was 14 (no clue how old they are now) and a year ago Matt moved away with his boyfriend, Stuart. He broke up with Stuart and wants to come for a visit and stay with Dean… ok. This was at the beginning of the book.
Matt doesn’t arrive until about 45% in. Up until then, we get to read all about how Dean has been pining away for Matt for the longest time, Dean going to the club and feeling sorry for himself while a fade to black hookup occurs with someone who he doesn’t even like but mentions that it would be someone who is Matt’s type. Uh? kay.
Then when Matt finally arrives they go to a club and start dancing all sexy with each other. They go back home and wordlessly start kissing, getting naked, get in the shower together and Matt jacks Dean off. NO DIALOGUE during this whole scene. It was a total “wtf” moment for me. Like… they’ve been friends for so long so why did it take this long for them to do this? Was Matt just suddenly attracted to Dean? Wtf is going on!!!! And they just go to sleep right after. No discussions.
Except the next morning they try to discuss it but it feels like a weak AF explanation to me.
Then Dean gets all ridiculous… just blah. This whole story was not for me. I think I read one other book by this author and it didn’t work out for me either. I think I’m gonna have to avoid from now on… sorry.
I love a good Bestie to lover story, don’t we all? but sadly this one didn’t quite make my heart flutter.
Dean has been crushing on his bestie, Matt, forever but thinks that ship has sailed since Matt moved to another state with his boyfriend and has never really shown he wanted more than friendship.
That is until Matt is single and lands on Deans doorstep.
I jumped right into this after read a short story of Nic’s (Sticky Fingers) feeling like I just needed a full-on HEA. And while I got my HEA I feel a little disappointed.
This story focused way too much on the trivial day to day crap and not enough on the actual unfolding and developing of their relationship. Not to mention that Matt wasn’t present for around half of the actual story, which was a total bummer. I would have really loved to have seen more of them together instead of Dean being a sad sack for the majority of the book.
All in all, it was still a sweet story and a solid 3 Kinky Heels for me <3
