It’s 1905 and the new century overflows with opportunities for the smart, the strong, the confident, and the determined. All words that describe Hope Birdwell to a T. Her first twenty years had their share of trouble and torment, but she’s certain the next twenty hold only promise.
Hope leaves a sordid past behind and heads for Wyoming to take up homesteading. Never mind that she’s alone in … alone in the world and has never known a real home in her whole life. Her name is Hope, after all, so what could possibly go wrong?
Well, maybe the long reach of perverted violence from a brute she would rather forget could get in the way of her dreams. Maybe the warmly distracting appeal of friends and community could compromise her independence. Maybe the loving attention of a handsome young man with the unnerving ability to change her opinions about true freedom could cause her to falter. Maybe.
Hope Birdwell knows she is poised at the edge of a bright future, if only she can protect herself and the people she’s grown to love from the dark and deadly menace of her past. Maybe that means she’ll have to risk everything she’s dreamed about and planned for and maybe she won’t succeed. Maybe she’s gone too long without the truth. Maybe.
Hope Birdwell will discover some surprising truths in the wilds of Wyoming. That there’s danger in deception, freedom in sacrifice, and a cost to love. Hard and painful lessons, every one of them, for a modern, single-minded girl. But she’s not one to give up on her dreams no matter what—and her name is Hope, after all.

i liked very much
Excellent character development and good story. Somewhat predictable as most western love stories are.
This is an excellent book. An unconventional childhood drives Hope’s determination to be independent and resourceful. When she’s given the deed to land in the west, she undertakes the task of providing for herself despite many obstacles and some haunting personalities who turn up and pose a great threat not only to Hope but her loved ones and her hard won way of life. Great read!
Waiting for Hope is a turn of the last century story about a woman homesteading in the wilds of Wyoming. With her sordid past, hoping no one ever finds out, Hope tries to make a new life for herself in the West.
Interesting, but basically a love story. There are more books in this series along the same line, but I won’t be reading them. I prefer death, murder and mayhem.
I I loved this book. Great story, great characters, very very enjoyable.
Okay
This book was enjoyable with strong character and a story line that reflected what life may have been like in 1905..
Interesting from historical standpoint
While it was hard to get into the book since the first 4 or 5 chapters were rather hard to understand the characters and setting, once I got into it, it was pretty good.
a very different story line and well written
Good but predictable.
Good book, now I’m hooked on the series.
Loved it. Wonderful characters, excellent story. Very readable and enjoyable.
I like so much that I had to go back and find book one. Great characters, clean, words flowed. Enjoyable read.
very slow and depressing did not read all the way.
I thought this book was really good. .. held my interest, sorry when it ended
This series is wonderful! love her writing!
A little too predictable, otherwise a nice read.
From the first page, I was a captive reader to what the next page would unfold, I was entertained, spellbound, educated about homesteading through the experiences of Hope, such a the connection I had with this main character, I could relate to being “alone” in life, and her determination to make it on her own. I have always been fascinated with the concept of homesteading, and this book made it so real, the integrity of pioneers, the unity of helping one another, how tough one had to be to survive all the elements coming at you each Season, its unforgiving nature, and evil that dogged her steps. I have to say, it was difficult for me to absorb the knife episode, too vivid, too evil, but it is life at its worse and best. This book kept me spellbound until the very end, the author left me wanting to read more!
