He knows trouble when he sees it.Fortunately, Drake likes trouble, especially when it comes in a particularly attractive package. While he and his crew of smugglers are waiting for their next job, Julianna makes a welcome distraction from the damned ache in his leg and the scars making his skin itch.A shame Julianna doesn’t like him one jot then, not even when he rescues her and promises to bring … promises to bring her to her brother. She knows a rogue when she sees one and the last thing she needs is another man in her life telling her what to do. Not even her brother…
A brother who happens to be the face of the smuggling operation Drake partakes in. And a terrifying face at that. Knight is the muscle behind the crew, ensuring their cover remains in place so that they can help the war effort whilst making a pretty penny. Knight won’t be too happy when he finds out Drake has decided Julianna is a challenge he more than welcomes.
It’s a risk he’s more than willing to take.

This story is very well written and has a great storyline and plot. It has likeable characters who are well described and develops nicely through the story.
A story that is a mix of action, drama, family issues, trust, love, twists, mystery, unwanted suitor, smugglers, emotions and all in all a page turner you just have to read. It kept me on the edge from start to finish. A writing style and use of words that draws the reader into the story. A couple that are not destined for each other but still fate wants them together.
My only thought was that he is a rake of the worst and suddenly he changes. That feels a bit to unbelievable. But well, love can change everybody.
Julianna is on the run from an unwanted suitor and her unfeeling father and seeking the help of her brother, Lewis Knight, in the small village of Penshallow. Knight’s fellow smuggler and pseudo friend, Nicholas Drake is immediately drawn to Julianna and helps her secure work in the inn. Despite being warned away from him by her brother, Julianna finds herself wanting to know more about Drake and delving beneath the rakish surface he presents to the world. Drake suffers from PTSD after his time in the navy during the Napoleonic wars and finds himself showing Julianna a side of himself that he keeps hidden. When Julianna’s fiance catches up to her and kidnaps her, Drake must overcome his demons if he hopes to get her back and the couple must face disapproval on all sides if they ever hope to be together.
I enjoyed the action and resolution to this book. There was good action leading up to a satisfying ending and I would recommend it.
I received an ARC via Booksprout. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
These Rogues just keep getting better with each story…. Loved this thrilling, action packed and emotional romantic adventure filled with mystery, danger and undeniable passion. In the search for her brother and a way out of an undesirable arranged marriage she ends up finding so much more than she was looking for…. Loved it!
This is amusing, dramatic and romantic. Drake is cheeky, protective, caring and intriguing. He also suffers from PTSD. Julianna is tough, determined, stubborn and caring. When Julianna shows up at the inn looking for her brother, she finds Drake instead of Knight. He ends up having to rescue her, then places her under his protection, which she resents. He is immediately enchanted by her, and she is more intrigued by him the more time she spends with him. Right after Knight shows up, trouble from home arrives and puts everyone on edge. This book, and series, are fascinating, I’ve enjoyed reading them and recommend adding them to your TBR list.

This was a good read. It has a interesting plot, likable characters and plenty of emotions. I enjoyed the banter and sparks that flew between Drake and Julianna. With drama and suspense this book keeps you entertained.
I really enjoyed this story – as with the other books in this series, it has danger, some mystery, very evil villains, strong characters – both male and female and naturally, romance. Drake is a captain of a ship, among other things and us suffering from PTSD from the war and is not looking for any permanent female relationship. Juliana is running from one she doesn’t want. When Drake and Julianna meet for the first time – he thinks she is a spoiled (but beautiful) lady of society and she finds him rude, overbearing & handsome. They argue, banter & get to know each other and end up rescuing one another from their pasts. Drake saves her from her evil betrothed & his thug & she saves Drake from his flashbacks & nightmares. It was quite the adventure getting to a happily ever after – his smuggling, Knight (her brother, his friend), her unwanted betrothed. I highly recommend this book & all the books in this series to all historical romance readers – you will love them!
The saga continues with Julianna and Drake. Drake is an injured war hero who also suffers from PTSD. Julianna is running away from an arranged engagement. As soon as he spots her he is instantly attracted but unfortunately the feeling is not mutual. The author once again sets up this incredible conversational script that allows that story to flow freely. It gives the characters more freedom of expression. This is useful to show the humor and wit of Drake and Julianna. There is drama and romance that leads to their eventual happily ever after.

Julianna comes looking for her brother, Knight for protection from their father who had bargained her to his friend in exchange for money. Before finding Knight, Drake saves her from two men who attack her. There is an attraction between them and this eventually leads to a HEA but there is a lot that happens first. The book is well written and entertaining. I would highly recommend it as a great read.
Having read the first two books in this series, I was more than happy to read and review this story. I have always enjoyed Ms Holt’s writing, and Waiting for a Rogue Like You does not disappoint. When Lady Julianna discovers that her debt-ridden father has sold her off in marriage to a truly despicable man, she makes a run for it to Cornwall, in an attempt to find her elusive brother. Instead she finds Drake, her brother’s business associate. Julianna initially gives Drake the cold shoulder, but when her determination to show her independence gets her into serious trouble, Drake comes to the rescue. This novel has all the elements of a good romance, is well written with a good plot, and keeps the reader’s attention all the way through to the closing chapters. I enjoyed the main characters: Drake’s sense of humour and protective nature, Julianna’s willingness to do what needed to be done to survive, as well as the secondary characters in the book and the part they played. Although this book is part of a series, it is nevertheless a standalone and has a good ending. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.
Love this author. Great storytelling
I love how Julianna did what she had to do to survive when she fled a bad situation. Drake and Julianna’s story is full of suspense. A good story.
Great read
This is book three in the Rogues of Redmere series . Let me introduce you to Nicholas Drake and Julianna Knight . A smuggler and war vet and a lady . That happen to meet while Julianna is running away . There are sparks at first sight but they know they are different but also the same in a way. When Julianna’s life is threatened Drake will do anything to get her back .
This is such a fun read and I fell in love with all the characters . Especially Drake , he is such a broke n man and he needs the love of a good woman . He has seen the ravages of war and is battling the memories of the war and what he had to do . He is can be such a cad but under all of the gruffness he has a big heart and would do all for Julianna . She takes hold of him and holds him tight . Julianna is such a sweet character . She is naïve at the beginning . But as you read you see her grow stronger and more stubborn . She puts Drake and her brother in line many a time . But her first scenes of her cooking is hilarious cause she has no idea what the heck she is doing . You will absolutely love her .
This is one of my favourite stories , we have romance , mystery and intrigue all in one well written book . The story will take you on an adventure . You will be cheering the characters and will swoon when they finally admit their love for each other . Going to check out the other books in the series . Want to see how the men of Redmere have been tamed by the women who love them .
By far one of my favorite romance novels of all time. I confess, this is the third book in the series, but the first I have read. I am eager now to go back and read the first two.
Drake is such a real and vibrant character, he was a true joy to read. So many times, real life love is complicated by things like what he suffers from, and it deeply affects the people who love them. In particular, the scene where Drake and Julianna are talking and suddenly fireworks go off. His reaction was so real and so well-written, I could feel myself tensing up and my heart breaking for him. When Julianna is calming and gentle, bringing him back from that terrible place in his head, my heart melted. This is True Love as I’ve not read it in another book. More than facing adversity together, they face his ghosts and conquer them, one episode at a time.
Julianna is a beautiful combination of fiery, independent woman, sensitive and intuitive partner, and aggravating sister. She is a vibrant woman who draws intense personalities to herself – both good and bad. As a result, she finds herself faced with situations she cannot overcome on her own. Particularly in the form of an unwanted fiance who is nothing more than a petty tyrant bent on breaking in his newest piece of property – Julianna, just as soon as he can force her into marriage.
Drake is equally drawn to her, which is fortunate for her. He rescues her several times throughout the story – just as many times as she rescues him, in fact. This points out how they balance each other and complement each other.
I love their story. I really enjoy how Holt fleshes out each character and brings nuances to the story that make it so much more enjoyable. I devoured this book in one sitting, and – as I said before – I’m looking forward to going back and reading the first two now.
Back in the day it was nothing for a father to sale is children for many reason. In this story he needs to pay off his debits and the highest bidder will win the lovely Julianna hand in marriage. The lady is having none of this and run for the hills trying to find her brother in hopes he will protect her. The author gives you a story of secrets, danger, mystery, suspense, drama, romance and love as she throws twists after twist keeping you invested in the story.
Drake first sets eyes on her she is being attacked by really bad men. His decides to help her but thinks she is spoiled society girl and she can’t stand the ground he walks on which leads to some delightful bickering that is very entertaining. Julianna is vibrant woman who is independent filled with fire. She has no trouble standing her ground and telling it like it is. No man is going to tell her what to do. Drake is looking for love but he wouldn’t say no to a little romance. He is strong but weak from a past that still haunts him. He is a rogue but can still be a gentleman. He can be pushy but calm which really endeared him to me.
I thought this was very entertaining from the bickering to the romance and everything in between. I loved the characters and how the story was laid out. The attraction is strong as the feeling grow they are pull-in together. They learn to help each other when times might turn bad. With Drake she is very caring and gentle as she talks him down from a flask back. War is cruel and what it does to the people fighting it you wouldn’t believe. Throughout the story they seem to spend time working on issues and saving the other when things get tough.
I thought it was a fun, emotional story that held my attention. I really liked how Drake and Julianna both have strong personalities which makes them buttheads. It was very entertaining watching these two falls in love. The story moves pretty fast with suspense and action. I loved the wit the author put in it which kept me laughing and smiling. A few times I laughed pretty hard making my husband raise his eye brows asking me if I was having a moment. The steam is great and passion is delightful. I enjoyed the twists and turns it kept the story moving and me hook. This was a great read I truly enjoyed.
This is the story of Drake and Julianna.
It is the third book in the Rogues of Redmere series.
Julianna is being sold off to the highest bidder in order to pay her father’s debts. She is not intending to marry a man she does not choose. Trying to find her brother, she escapes her father. She is attacked but saved by Drake. Drake is known for liking trouble and taking risks.
When Drake sees Julianna, she makes a welcome distraction in a pretty package. He saves her while he and his crew of smugglers are awaiting their next job. Julianna knows a rogue when she meets one, and she doesn’t like him one bit. She doesn’t want him telling her what to do, even if he did rescue her and promise to take her to her brother.
Knight, Julianna’s brother, is part of the smuggling operation that Drake belongs to. Knight works to keep the smugglers’ covers in place. It helps the war effort and also make a good profit for the crew. Julianna’s brother steps up to guard her against the man who is determined to “buy” her. Drake takes Julianna on as a challenge, even knowing Knight won’t be very happy when he finds out about it.
A twist of secrets, mystery, danger and love make this an interesting story to read. I was quickly turning the pages reading it to find out what happens.
When I see a book by Samantha Holt, I know I will be entertained! Third in the Rouges of Redmere series finds our hero, Nicholas Drake, dealing with strong issues with his time in the Navy. Left with injuries to his person, he also has painful memories of the war. Now, part of a gang of smugglers, he is not looking for love or a happily ever after. Julianna Knight is being sold off to the highest bidder, John Slade, to pay her father’s debts, but is determined not to marry a man she does not want. She runs away to find her brother, Lewis to help her escape her father. What she finds is trouble in being attacked but is saved by Drake. Her brother is part of the smuggling ring and steps up to guard her with the other men against Slade who is determined to get her. As the story sets in, I was smiling at how Julianna tries to make her way by working at the local inn. Drake and Julianna are strong characters and you will find yourself holding your breath to find out what happens. Some mystery, secrets and danger all twist together in this engaging read. Don’t miss it!
I was so absorbed in this book. I literally could not put it down! There is an abundance of strong characters and they all demand attention. Wow. What a great read! It was predictable in some places but it didn’t take from the story at all. Drake and Julianna have a Magnetism between them that pulls you in. Believable story, fast paced, wonderfully written and worth the read! I have not read the previous books but I will definately be going back, and doing just that!
4.5 Stars
Nicholas Drake is a navy captain who was injured in the war & now has become a smuggler which masks his other activities. Julianna Knight has fled her home in Northumberland when her debt ridden father arranged a marriage for her with John Slade. She’s travelled to Cornwall to find her brother Lewis. Drake saves Julianna from being attacked & then he Red & Nate as well as Knight aim to guard her against Slade. Julianna takes a job in a local inn & her attempts at cooking & cleaning had me chuckling.
Drake & Julianna are strong, well fleshed characters who are attracted to each other from the start but Knight tries to warn Drake to keep away from Julianna as he doesn’t want a rogue like Drake around his sister. There are some misunderstandings & secrets that need airing, also the appearance of Slade, all add to this page turning novel. This is the third in the series but could easily be read on its own, however it was good to catch up with Red & Nate. A very enjoyable read that I read in under a day, I hope Knight also gets his HEA.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
