An SCU team investigates a string of accidents, only to uncover a deadly and deliberate monster in the latest novel from New York Times bestselling author Kay Hooper. In Clarity, North Carolina, the residents have fallen victim to an unfortunate series of events. Seemingly random accidents have taken the lives of several citizens in the small mountain town. But these deadly coincidences are … deadly coincidences are anything but. Something is on the hunt in Clarity, and the only clue as to what is a cryptic note given to the victims 24 hours before they meet their ends: “Wait for dark.”
Sheriff Mal Gordon knows how to handle his town, but he has no idea how to handle this. Hollis Templeton and her team from the Special Crimes Unit, including her partner and lover, telepath Reese DeMarco, are called in to investigate.
But while the SCU has prepared them for the unknown, the incredible evil stalking Clarity shakes the team to its core when one of their own is targeted. Now Hollis, the “cat with nine lives” finds herself facing death again.
And this time, not even her partner can protect her…

In another genre, this would make an interesting movie series with some minor modifications. This psychic FBI unit fighting evil. This is the latest in a long running series of trilogies and is out in February 2017.
Sheriff Mal Gordon is suspicious of the sudden horrific accidents that occur in his small town of Clarity. North Carolina. “Wait for Dark” is the title of the newest book in the Bishop Special Crimes Unit novel and also the words in a strange message the Sheriff finds on the cell phone log of each accident victim shortly before their demise. Once again the paranormal team arrives to try to discern if they are really accidents or if something evil is behind the suspected crimes. Hollis is the returning lead investigator and still recovering from the trauma of losing her eyes, regaining her sight and adjusting to a new ability. Will Hollis’ new ability help or hinder she and her team as Hollis tries to mend her protective shield? The possible romance of Hollis and Reese DeMarco continues in this story but takes a side stage to the continued hunt for the “monster” before another incident occurs. The pace is just right and the story is smooth without dead (no pun intended) spots. Cozy up and read this one especially when you have time to enjoy it in one day.
I was so shocked when the killer was revealed! Hollis is always evolving, her character is always developing. The story is well written. The storyline is complicated, but easy to follow. The twists in the story are unique. I was on the edge of my seat at times, confused at times, and shocked at the end. I would recommend this whole series!
Wow this book took off with a bang and had me riveted. The beginning read like a Stephen King movie with an evil car. I was actually nervous to keep going I’m such a wuss. I’ve been a fan of Ms Hooper for a few years now, especially the Bishop series and I need to catch up with the 3 before this one. This book does stand alone plot wise though.
In Small town USA there are too many unexplained ‘accidents’ and then one is obviously murder. Who is it? How is that even done? What is the motive? It was a head spin trying to work it out and I was in the dark until the end.
It was also nice to see Hollis and her personal connection with someone on her team. Her journey out of the dark caused by trauma and hopefully her future happiness. But goodness knows what this author has in store for them next.
This is a well written tale of drama, physic phenomenon, gruesome details, scary bits and a touch of romance. I loved the characters, the familiarity after being in many tales together. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it.
Have always liked Kay Hooper books. Enjoy how the team all have extra senses. This book kept me interested to the very end.
