Private investigator Kinsey Millhone finds shocking connections between two seemingly unrelated deaths in this #1 New York Times bestselling mystery in the Alphabet series. The first victim is a local PI of suspect reputation, gunned down near the beach at Santa Teresa. The second is a John Doe found on the beach six weeks later with a slip of paper with private detective Kinsey Millhone’s name … Kinsey Millhone’s name and number in his pocket.
Two seemingly unrelated deaths: one man murdered, the other apparently dead of natural causes.
But as Kinsey digs deeper into the mystery of the John Doe, some very strange links begin to emerge. Not just between the two victims, but also to Kinsey’s past. And before long Kinsey, through no fault of her own, is thoroughly compromised…

One of her best. Two stores going at the same time and then coming together. Very good writing
Always a fun read.
Sue Grafton is one of my favorite authors. I really enjoyed this book
Same great characters w/ another case to solve. Always a fun read.
I love her books
As soon as I finished reading “W” I had to buy “Y” and start reading.
Love her writing.
Perfect Kinsey Milhone story
love all Grafton’s books
Great
Sue Grafton makes me wish there were more than 26 letters in the alphabet
Light reading but subject to reader’s mood. I became impatient and skipped to end. Plot nicely integrated three story lines.
It was okay. Not as good as past books in this series. I do like the character
I have been reading her books from A to W, now I need X!
What am I going to go after Z is for …? Every book on this series was different, complex, funny at times and a tear jerker at others. Sue Grafton’s style is simple. Simple sentences, easy to follow theme, but loaded with unexpected twists and turns. Well done.
Love Sue Grafton books. Will be sorry when she sinister the alphabet!!
I love this series so I don’t want to miss any of them. Will be starting Y very soon.
The usual quality I expect from this series – a bit too much about William – over-developed character. The plot was good and I enjoy reading these books.
Think I have now read them all
Typical Sue Grafton, good story line, new characters, old characters. Enjoyable.
I was very pleased with W Is For Wasted. I have read every book in the alphabet series for many years and look forward to each new book. Kinsey is a great but human heroine and it makes her so real and relatable. I look forward to the rest of the series.
