Private investigator Kinsey Millhone finds shocking connections between two seemingly unrelated deaths in this #1 New York Times bestselling mystery in the Alphabet series. The first victim is a local PI of suspect reputation, gunned down near the beach at Santa Teresa. The second is a John Doe found on the beach six weeks later with a slip of paper with private detective Kinsey Millhone’s name … Kinsey Millhone’s name and number in his pocket.
Two seemingly unrelated deaths: one man murdered, the other apparently dead of natural causes.
But as Kinsey digs deeper into the mystery of the John Doe, some very strange links begin to emerge. Not just between the two victims, but also to Kinsey’s past. And before long Kinsey, through no fault of her own, is thoroughly compromised…

Sorry that the alphabet isn’t longer and also to hear that Ms Grafton has passed on. Kinsey is such a well crafted character and her adventures and problem solving have been an entertaining ride. RIP
Up to par with other books. Great character still going strong.
Better than I thought it would be. A decent read.
This author always has very developed plots. Have read many of theses books and have loved all of them.
Somewhat interesting, but not so much of a turner that you can’t put it down. A good read at bedtime..
It was long and drawn out.
Sue Grafton was one of my favorite mystery writers. Every book is different, and every book is excellent, well-researched and believable from beginning to end. This is not my favorite Grafton, but it’s still wonderful and deserves 5 stars. I will miss her.
Another great Kinsey Milhone book
Interesting Grafton insight into homelessness through mystery.
I love Sue Grafton.
Loved it, love the series, Rest In Peace Sue.
Nice Grafton story
Love Kinsey!!
I love Kinsey, but her language is a little raw for me. The storylines are always engaging.
A classic Sue Grafton: intriguing plot, interesting, relatable characters, “feel-good” climax. I enjoyed it!
Characterters are multidimension. The story is fast-paced and human. It is Kinsey at her best – tough, driven, focused and successfull.
I have loved all of Sue Grafton’s books and was reading this one when I learned that she had died. I felt personally bereaved. I am now re-reading “Y” (I often read them out of order but they have been so entertaining, alphabetical order didn’t matter that much). I’m sorry we don’t get to read “Z” but hope the family doesn’t get talked into cobbling one together without her. It would be a disservice. She will be missed.
Usual Grafton great writing. Never disappointing because after a few of her books you feel like you know the main character personally. Sad to hear that Sue Grafton died recently. I will miss her writing.
Another wonderful Sue Grafton! RIP
Love this series will miss Sue Graftenn
