Awesome Story & Narration Riveting & Heartfelt!
Vulnerable
McIntyre Security Bodyguard Series, Book 1
By: April Wilson
Narrated by: Ava Erickson
I loved everything about this book, from April Wilson’s wonderful writing style to the characters and storylines she created to the fabulous narration that brings it all to life from the pages to your ears. The story grabbed my attention immediately and captivated it for the entire book. The characters are realistic, easy to relate to, connect with and care about. Beth Jamison continues to suffer from nightmares and PTSD years after she survived a childhood abduction. Her protective older brother, Tyler, learned that her abductor, Howard Kline, was being released early from prison, but he withheld that information from Beth because he did not want her to worry. Instead, he hired McIntyre Security to keep her safe and keep eyes on the perpetrator. Shane McIntyre did not agree with Tyler about keeping Beth in the dark about it all, but he takes the job. Beth has learned to live with her anxiety, she has a great roommate, Gabriela, who is understanding and looks out for her and a job she feels safe in. Shane had had plenty of women in his life, none he wanted to keep, none that intrigued him like Beth did, he was not sure why, was it her innocence, her vulnerability or her strength to survive, he only knew the more he learned about her the more he needed to meet her which lead into needing to have her. Shane was so good to and for Beth, he was patient with her and gave her the time she needed to get into her comfort zone. He held back on telling her how he really came into her life, he planned to and had his reasons for delaying but he waited too long and it backfired. The security team keeping an eye on Howard Kline learn that he is up to no good and that he still has an interest in Beth which puts her in danger, she also has another problem, a student obsessed with her. There is never a dull moment in this book, the story is cleverly plotted with plenty of drama, heartfelt and emotional moments, some angst, action, twists and turns, thrilling suspense and a smoking hot romance. April Wilson, thank you for another awesome story and emotional rollercoaster ride, I am looking forward to what comes next for Shane and Beth.
And for the amazing narration, Ava Erickson is a talented narrator and voice artist. She had a complete understanding of the characters she portrayed, gave each a voice that suited that character’s persona to a tee, she was believable in each role she played and sounded just as I pictured them to sound. You could hear how much heart she put into her work as she captured the characters’ emotions and projected them into her performance. She set the perfect tone for the story and handled the back-and-forth dialogue with ease, never missing a beat. Ava Erickson is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another fabulous listen!
Loved the book! Poor Beth suffered such horrible things as a child. Loved Shane and the crew you can tell they are really like family(those who aren’t actually family). Honestly I didn’t like how Beth only seemed to be mad at Shane for hiding the fact that they were protecting her. Honestly I would have been more mad at her brother and Gabrielle. Like she disregarded them but broke up with Shane when I’m fact he was contractually obligated to follow Tyler’s order. It’s BS. It all works out in the end but I just found that annoying. Plus I get why Tyler and Gabrielle are so over protective and over bearing but Beth is an adult and they treat her like a child with check ins and how they feel about who she dates etc. that’s ridiculous.
VULNERABLE is my introduction to this author. I saw her in a Facebook live event and decided to give her a try. The story held my interest and the characters were well developed. Beth held onto a childhood trauma that dictated how she interacted with others. I felt like her brother, Tyler, coddled her and should have put her in therapy. Shane comes in and through patience and perseverance helps her to find her inner strength to deal with what life throws at her. I read this in the Box Set.
It’s a wonderful reading! Shane is so sweet, so considerer, and Beth grow with the book. I’m so severe with female characters, but Beth gained my heart.
Shane & Beth… what can I say? I’m not sure I’ll continue with the series. Not because I disliked the story, but because it dragged a bit & I’m not sure if that is this author’s writing style or if it’s just because it was the first book in the series. This was told in 3rd person & it looks like book 2 switches to 1st person.
I picked up this book based on a recommendation in a group, because the hero buys the heroine a bookstore. That storyline appealed to me, of course! Unfortunately, that wasn’t actually a large part of the story & it happens later in the book. Again, that appears it might be more of a focus in book 2. That was another unexpected thing – book 2 continues with Shane & Beth’s story. This book DOES NOT end on a cliffhanger – there are just some major parts of the story that aren’t finished & will, I presume, be wrapped up in the second book.
The overall story was was good, but I just didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would.
Things I didn’t really enjoy:
– After they initially get together, the sex scenes seemed drawn out & peppered throughout for the sake of … I don’t know what, but they didn’t feel like they were advancing the story (or relationship) after a bit.
– After trying to type a couple other things out, I realized they could be considered spoilers, and I don’t want to do that! So, I’ll just say there were a couple other things throughout the set up & story that didn’t jive w/ me.
Things I DID enjoy:
– The overall relationship & interactions between Shane & Beth. I liked them both a lot!
– The supporting cast. They all felt pretty fleshed out & were quite interesting!
– The family relationships. This kind of goes along w/ the above as well.
– He DID buy her a bookstore… *grin*
So, while this wouldn’t be a reread for me, and I’m not sure about continuing w/ the series, if you like lots of steamy times, a sweet, vulnerable heroine & an OTT J/P hero with a big heart and a taste for vengeance, this could be a really enjoyable read!!! : )
I adore this serious! Hot, alpha male and happily ever after!
April Wilson’s book Vulnerable was a compelling read. The heroine Beth suffers from anxiety resulting from a childhood abductor. With the kidnapper getting out of jail, Beth’s brother hires McIntyre Security to protect her. Enter Shane McIntyre, head honcho, who is intrigued with Beth once he lays eyes on her photo. Shane gets involved with Beth’s protection instead of pawning it off to his team but he can’t protect his heart.
Wilson paints a hero with strength and good looks yet with such tenderness that the reader will fall in love. He cares and nurtures Beth despite her issues and teases the woman out of her.
Vulnerable is a steamy, fast burn romance that is action-packed and adds a mystery that continues to book 2. I read this book in one sitting.
I found this story to be engrossing, heartfelt and arousing. This is a suspenseful romance that includes plenty of alpha males, a timid broken young woman, and a gorgeous, serious, intense family.Shane McIntyre and Beth Jamison are a endearing, passionate couple that just have to be experienced by the reader first hand. April Wilson does a fantastic job of combining love, sensuality, and mystery. Some of the scenes are titillating while others are raw and dark which draw the reader in and make them feel like they are part of the story.
Shane McIntyre is the alpha male in his world with many siblings to lead along with a security business, he would have to be. I loved his commanding yet still sensitive presence towards Beth. Who wouldn’t love an older man who is protective, melt in your mouth hot, and knows what he is doing in and out of the bedroom. No wonder Beth couldn’t resist him. Beth is a beautiful young woman who has been traumatized since childhood and yearns for a more intimate connection but is fearful of being victimized again. So she settles for living a solitary life with just her best friend Gabrielle, her older brother Tyler, and some steamy erotica novels. Little does she know that she is capable of so much passion and is strong enough to endure her past as well as any trouble in her future.
This is a remarkable story that has amazing characters.I found the family dynamics and drama to be intriguing and left me curious to read more about the McIntyre clan. It had plenty of emotional depth, along with enough romance and steam to rise your temperature while simultaneously melting your heart. I highly recommend if you are looking for a gripping story that will keep you on the edge of your seat along with a powerful love story.
Wonderful story between the experienced CEO and the heroine in need of rescue. The best part about this series is the supporting cast. Unlike many other books in this genre the other characters have depth and contribute to the story.
This book has all the feels! Shane is my new favorite alpha male character and he is perfect for vulnerable Beth. I loved this book so much I read thru the night. You can bet I will be reading the rest of the series ASAP!
I really loved this book!! I think I’ve reread it like 5 times already!! And of course when new books are coming out I have to start it again as a refresher!! Beth is an amazing character and as the book progresses she becomes even more amazing and shows her strength. Shane is the ultimate leading man, and alpha male!! You just fall in love with him as well!! All the the characters in this books are amazing and you find yourself wanting to learn each of their stories!! April Wilson is an amazing author and this series is a must buy, keep forever and read many times over!!
