“I have sworn twice in my life I would no longer touch you, Ara. And I have attempted it twice. But I am not a man that can stand by that particular vow.”
She prayed for death.
Stolen from her home, sold for her innocence, all Ara Detton wanted was death. One man stood in her way, Caine Farlington. Ara is forced to survive, forced to rebuild her life. A life that is orderly, busy—with a … that is orderly, busy—with a destiny that is her own. All would be perfect, if not for having to hide her love for the man that once saved her. The man that forced her to live, to survive, to flourish.
He refuses to let her go.
In search of his missing betrothed, Caine Farlington, the Earl of Newdale, quite by accident, saves Ara from the worst possible fate. Six years later, Ara is an indispensable part of his life—even if he has to curb his need to touch her at every turn.
The one you love is not always the one you think you need.
Neither one of them is prepared to let the other go. But to remain together, both must find redemption and learn to forgive secrets of the past.
Note: The Lords of Action books are each stand-alone stories, and can be read individually in any order. These historical romances are set in the Regency and Victorian eras, and do not shy away from naughty language, scenes with steamy heat, and moments that might possibly make you squirm.

I really enjoyed this book for many reasons; suspense, a different & disgusting societal practice, engaging main characters & delightful secondary characters that I hope we see in later books. Caine & Arabella went through so much to be together (enough reviews explaining it all) but in the end they finally had their HEA! I highly recommend this book to historical romance lovers who enjoy some naughty language, some not so nice practice of auctioning off virgins, a couple of spicy sex scenes, romance, suspense & love.
light reading (Mills & Boone type)
One of my favorites
All goes to show, never vow something that you may later regret.
A great novel and very entertaining. Lot of diversions but it is consistent with the history of the time. I liked this book and will certainly read it again.
Love every K.J. Jackson’s books I’ve read.
Didn’t realize that this book was the first in a series and wondered why it sounded so familiar since I’ve read number three already. Knowing where the story is going didn’t take away from the journey. Thank you, loved it.
Can’t wait to finish with #2 lol
Loved this book. Great characters and a wonderful story line.
Overall I really enjoyed this book.
I liked that it flowed well. Characters were fleshed out and a great backstory. I liked the secondary characters as they fit into the story well. I understand that some had an issue with the story due to the subject matter however it is a fictional b\piece of work so I was able to overlook the logical thinking of what was happening.
Yes, they should have gone for help but as a work of fiction, I understood why the author wrote it the way she did. I would say I was more shock at what happens to our heroine in the beginning from her own father supposedly a man of the church but it made for a good read and explained how our character became so involved in each other’s lives.
This to me was an easy read one that held my attention. I enjoyed the banter between our hero and heroine. I liked that our heroine was strong and was a survivor. I like that our hero was noble and caring. The tension between the two was steamy and at time comical.
Overall I was upset or mad about any of it and truly enjoyed the book. I am excited to read the next installment.
I enjoy K.J. Jackson books. This was less edgy than her norm but still good
I have read quite a few of Jackson books writes very good
Characters are more developed and in depth.
Wonderful. Great reading. Dont miss this one.
I’ve read many KJ Jackson books. This one like the others was fun to read, and entertaining. Her imagination with her plots is what keeps me coming back.
“Vow” (nook) is another great book. A riveting story showing the good and the bad sides of historical London. K. J. Jackson easily captures the angst, love, betrayal, and redemption of Caine and Ara.
As the daughter of a country vicar, Arabella Detton never envisioned that she would be kidnapped by a brothel owner, much less be put up for auction to the highest bidder. All she can hope for now is just to survive whatever happens next.
Caine Fairington survived the war with one goal; marry his lovely Isabella. Upon returning, he learned that his love had been kidnapped and is to be sold at a virgin auction. Now he’s on a mission to buy her back.
I have read several books by K.J. Jackson. I love her writing style and how she can weave an emotionally tight and dangerous story. I just wish her intimate scenes were not so graphic, nor her use of vulgarities so frequent.
That said, Vow: Lords of Action, Novel 1, is an entertaining and engrossing Regency era romance. It is packed full of energy and mayhem. Ara is a strong heroine and Caine is a difficult hero. Together they are passionate opposites who can’t help but gravitate toward one another. Thankfully the supporting characters are just as deeply developed as the leads, and one will end up being the hero of the next book in the series. I was glad that the violence that is associated with virgin kidnapping and auctions did lead to redemption and renewal. Lastly, this is the first book in the series, however, it is a stand-alone novel with a very happy ending.
Disclaimer: I also posted my review with Amazon (as Rural Reader) and with Good Reads.
It was refreshing me to find a Regency type novel that actually alluded to important topics along with the normal Regency talk of manners and clothes. I suppose I just never really wondered whether sex trafficking was a social problem in that period. I was really intrigued with this.
Rating: 3 1/2 Stars
First of all, I love K.J. Jackson books, especially the Revelry’s Tempest series. This is the first one I have read from the Lords of Action series. I must admit, I had a more difficult time getting into this work. The H and h were both strong characters. The plot was plausible. Character development was good. The angst of the characters was believable. But for some reason, I could not develop an emotional tie with them or the story which is what I normally experience. Perhaps I’ll have a better experience with the next one in the series.
Amazing
Love this book!
The dialogue was snappy and the characters had the potential for development. I would be interested in reading of the future activities of Fletch and Greta. I’m still confused why they never tried to involved the authorities on some level. That seemed a logical action.
