Walker ~Living a life of privilege isn’t always what it seems to be. While Walker has never wanted for anything material-wise, the two things he doesn’t have are his parents’ love and support. Walker tries his hardest to be the perfect son by allowing his father, the Governor, to dictate his life for him. All that changes when an awful day leads to a brutal night, causing Walker to fear for his … fear for his safety and hire the only person he knows can protect him.
Beckett ~
Peace and an easy way of living, that’s all Beckett wants after serving twelve years in the army. Working for his Uncle Rusty’s bar as a doorman and occasional bouncer, the last thing the tattooed man with the take-no-crap attitude needs is to have to save the obnoxious kid who gives him attitude at the door. After ensuring that he’ll survive, and having a not so pleasant run-in with the guy’s parents, he leaves the hospital never expecting to see him again.
Walker and Beckett come from two different worlds. Where Beckett fought for his country and now enjoys the simple life, Walker works as his father’s campaign manager and lives a life of luxury. But when Walker’s safety is threatened, and he offers Beckett a job as his body guard, their lives became entwined and the two men begin to find that maybe they aren’t so different after all. Soon bickering and fighting turns to friendship and something…more. The only problem is, Walker’s straight… isn’t he? And can Beckett figure out who is behind the attacks in time to save Walker?
Vow of Protection is book one in the Personal Protector series. This book contains situations for adults only and also talks about past drug use and rape.

Thank heavens for Audible Escape. To each his own, but I don’t get the 5 star reviews. The story had some promise and there were decent bits, but overall it was banal and some parts were downright cringeworthy.
Walker is the typical spoiled and emotionally abused son of a Senator. A senator who practically walked around twirling his nefarious looking mustache .
We’re repeatedly told spent Beckett spent 12 years in the military as if this proves his skills and knowledge yet his actual actions contradict this. He can’t even skillfully break up the bar “fight”. It’s not a fight, Walker is unconscious while big-bad-biker-dude repeatedly wails on him and Beckett concerns himself with BBBD’s girlfriend screaming taunts.
Walker regains consciousness in a hospital and thinks ~ yes! I should hire man I’ve never met before and who let me get beaten to a pulp to be my bodyguard. Ummmm… I guess he was still suffering a concussion?
Kenneth Obi was OK here. I’ve liked his other work so I’m not sure if it was the writing, direction, or what ~ but this was not his finest. It wasn’t terrible, most of what bothered me was that in order to give Beckett his deep register it often felt forced bordering on caricature.
I wouldn’t spend a credit, but for AE, it’s worth a try if this trope is your thing.
The Growls Have it
I know when I read a book by Brittany Cournoyer I’m in for a treat. Vow of Protection is no exception. I love the suspense she builds in each book and this one has the added deliciousness of the enemies-to-lovers vibe along with the sarcastic volleys between Beckett and Walker. It made me want to smush them together so they could shut each other up all the time :).
Walker’s dad is such a complete jerk. What a vile human being and poor excuse for a parent. Although Walker can be a little spoiled at times, I think he’s very brave. Beckett, on the other hand, is delightfully growly and gruff all the time. Together, they set off fireworks when they’re in the same room. I agree with Walker; who needs food and water when there’s Beckett. The hotel scene made my heart so happy in more than one way, and oh, the care that Beckett takes with Walker. Happy, happy sighs.
I really enjoyed the mystery behind who Walker’s stalker was and the twists and turns that appeared at the end of the book. Although it was heartbreaking to hear, I’m glad we learned more about both Walker’s and Beckett’s pasts. I felt so bad for Walker and everything he had to live through, and Beckett, I just want to give lots of hugs. I am so impressed with Carter! He’s phenomenal as a bodyguard. Looking forward to reading his story. A fantastic suspenseful read!
I love a good suspense and after listening to one of Brittany Couroyner’s I fell in love with her writing style and stories. The characters are great, and the suspense is page-turning. I loved the way Walker and Beckett argued and the slow burn in this book. I was a bit shocked at the outcome.
I love Kenneth Obi’s narration. I liked the voices he chose for the characters and he acts out the books more than just reading. If you can get the audio, I recommend it.
If you like Mystery/Suspense, Gay for you, slow burn, bodyguards, twists, and a great climactic ending this is for you!
First I have to say that this book is one that you will love to hate but it grows on you. I have to say that I almost gave up reading this book but there was something about Walker and Beckett that I had to find out how these two would ever get along to be friends let alone become lovers.
So I kept reading and I felt so bad for Walker because he is a rich kid that is spoiled and gets everything he wants. He goes to a bar and ends up getting the crap beat out of him and the bouncer tries to save him. He is in danger and he knows he needs protection when he hires the bouncer from the club where he was beaten.
The bouncer Beckett agrees to protect Walker even though he is going through his own troubles. See Beckett has spent years in the Army and he has his own issues but he agrees to help Walker out.
This is where I almost gave up because these two are like water and oil. They FIGHT all the time and I mean they argue and Beckett is a down right arsehole to Walker and Walker takes it. I said in my head a few times oh hell no I wanted to shuttle kick and punch the eff out of Beckett but he tried and in the end he and Walker became friends.
The person trying to hurt Walker was not so obvious to me because I was so focused on the bickering back and forth I couldn’t figure it out. But when it came out I was like oh hell how did I not see that coming. All in all I would say give this a go because it is for some and not for others but I do need book two if it is who I think it is because I loved him so much as a secondary character.
