Being possessed has its advantages… the spiritual realm and take a corporeal form. When Ogoun, the Loa of War, intervenes he recruits Annabelle to join him as a student at the Voodoo Academy. Will Annabelle master the arts, and fend off Kalfu’s spiritual assaults? Or, is she ultimately a puppet in a battle between Voodoo demigods?
Voodoo Academy is the first book in the Gates of Eden: The Voodoo Legacy series. Theophilus Monroe’s Annabelle Mulledy is a snarky badass heroine with attitude. Monroe draws on the legend and myth of Voodoo lore in a way that neither caricatures the arts as “demonic” nor glosses over the dark side of the Voodoo tradition. With dark magic, dragons, vampires, and a slow burn academy romance the Gates of Eden: The Voodoo Legacy series has something for everybody.
If you enjoy magic academy fantasy books and occult urban fantasy, especially books with a dark twist, then you will love Theophilus Monroe’s Voodoo Academy. Fans of authors like Michael Anderle, Shayne Silvers, G.K. DeRosa, or Ramy Vance will love this compelling coming of age urban fantasy. Pick up your copy today!

Voodoo Academy: An Urban Magic Academy Fantasy (Gates of Eden: The Voodoo Legacy Book 1) by Theophilus Monroe is a wonderful story that I have had the privilege to read and review. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series written by a brand new author for me to read and I can not wait to read the next book cause I am hooked on this series. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about magic academy fantasy books and urban fantasy stories.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
I love this series. Full of snarky characters that learn to facevtheirvinnercfewrsxand pull together as a team to fight the baddies. It’s geared towards YA readers but honest I truly enjoyed it. Butvi always love all of Theo’s books. I also really love the voodoo aspect and the exploration of that. If you get a chance to do the audio version I highly recommend it. Loved the narrator she did an excellent job!
When Annabelle she survived a Voodoo attack on her family but it left her with the spirit of a 200 year old girl who had been given strange powers in the after life. Annabelle is asked by Ogoun to attend the Voodoo Academy where she can master the arts to fend off the evil loa Kalfu who wants to use Annabelle’s spirit Isobel.
This is the first book I have read from this author and I enjoyed reading it and will likely read the rest of the series.
Never have i read a book like this The Voodoo Academy is wild with double crosses constant death mysterious and dangerous Lao who to trust even the good guys have and axe to grind and were do Vampires come from well if you go to the Voodoo Academy you will definitely find out. Annabelle has a spirit inside her Isabelle and now thats she’s joined the academy she has to keep it secret but with greed, friendship, power and lust on the line the only true ally she has is her sister Ashley so its save the world today or fight another day but the Vamps are coming and some rather nasty Loa in need of power.

Hatching hellhounds! Monroe rocks this beautifully composed work of art, blending one mind-blowing storyline and gripping plot, melding this baby together seamlessly. Blasting through like a thief in the night, laying out the heavy artillery locked and loaded, wrapping this baby up sleek, shiny and tight. Stumbling through the intimidating trials and challenging tribulations, alongside the dangerous twists and wicked turns, testing our characters in ways they could have never anticipated. Meting out incredibly, well rounded scenario’s that punch dead center, ramping up the anticipation and adrenaline with such intensity and precision, thrusting this gem to a whole new level. Anarchy, escapades and havoc run amuck, kicking this baby into the eye of the storm, blasting it into a tailspin with an explosive culmination. The characters, banter, dialogue, interactions and charged atmosphere along with relatable qualities and individual traits, blend and flow, transforming into genuinely charismatic personalities. The scenes are written with such realism, impressive passion, imagination and unique insight, blasts this sparkling jewel wide open. Amazing job Monroe, thanks for sharing this little treasure with us.
After reading a couple of this author’s other books in another series, I had to see more and this one did not disappoint.
It’s extremely fast-paced and hilariously witty, packed with voodoo mythology, mystery, and, in what I’m beginning to suspect is Monroe’s specialty, expertly weaves in myths and legends.
Will keep reading/ listening to Monroe for sure, am officially a fan.

Audio:
This narrator was really good. I sorta got the feeling she was yelling at me the whole time (regardless of volume), but she overall goes a good job. 4-star performance.
Voodoo Academy is the 1st book in The Voodoo Legacy series. I own all the books, but am working my way through so many things that I am listening to a lot while driving and exercising.
We meet Annabelle and her sister Ashley first in Druidess. They were touched by voodoo at a young age. Fast forward many years, Annabelle and Isabelle(read Druidess as soon as you can to find out about Isabelle) are sharing a body, but haven’t quite come to terms with that arrangement. Fast forward, a car accident, a crazy loa, and Annabelle is now a student at the Voodoo Academy. Many adventures to come, a HOT Loa, making friends, and coming to terms with her life as it is, for Annabelle and those around her.
I LOVED the story, and the narration was AMAZING. Sydney was so cute and I think if I imagined Annabelle’s voice and attitude, it was nailed by Sydney for sure!
I received an advance review copy of this book, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I wanted to like this book so much. The cover and the title instantly grabbed my attention. As well as the premise.
Unfortunately, I struggled a lot with the narrator. I would recommend that you listen to the sample first to make sure you like the voice. The trouble I had was the constant changing of talking speeds, the volume spoken would suddenly increase, and poor voice inflections overall. It was difficult for me to decipher who was speaking between Annabelle and Ashley.
The story seemed promising with a evil spirit and learning a lot about voodoo but unfortunately I was a bit lost.
A good story full of excitement, danger, and a lot of snark. My only true complaint in listening was that the narrator seemed to end her sentences with a lilt; turning them into a question.
This is such a unique story concept with the soul binding with the main character and the mix of voodoo mixed in with an adventure-filled storyline that makes such an entertaining book. I really enjoyed this book.
This book was amazing. It was full of mischief and intrigue. I love crazy voodoo hoodoo and this book did not disappoint. The characters were fabulous. The plot and story itself kept me hooked. Just a great read!
Annabelle and her sister Ashley’s family were attacked with voodoo magic. Ashlee is soulbound to Isabella because of the attack. Years later they are driving down the road and a Person steps in front of their camaro. The young man has been possessed. A teacher at the Voodoo Academy shows up and helps the girls. She is given an opportunity to study at the school . to learn more about her and Isabella’s powers. The rest of the book is an adventure that will keep you engaged until the very end. I was given a free copy of this book at my request and this is my honest review.
The novel grabs your attention from the beginning when Annabelle had an accident hitting a boy called Mikah on the road, then an evil being that had possessed Mikah moves to possess her sister Ashley. The evil being Kalfu, which was trying to get back to the human world becomes Annabelle’s biggest challenge. Very good story mixing magic, with evil and good. Annabelle and Isabelle, who are bound together in the same body had to train and learn in the Voodoo Academy with Mikah, Nico, Oggie, and Pauli. In addition, the twist in the story was good with Baron Samedi as another evil they had to run from or was it Papa Legba that the should fear? The twist just keeps you reading more and more until the end. Good story.

This book was an interesting take one the religious academy genre. While I am not all that familiar with Voodoo I know enough to offend people with not getting things right and question asking. What I going really fascinating was the way the author tried to correspond the Loa with the already known and accepted Christian deities. This is as far as I feel comfortable going into the religion subject so I’ll move on from here.
The characters were fascinating with regards to their various back stories and with the ways that they enter acted with each other. The world that was built was amazing as it took preconceived notions and accepted realities and pushed them so that the readers expectations were nudged to another level. An excellent plot that builds upon itself rather than floundering. And finally a way to teach the reader about some of the Voodoo religion without seeming to be a zealot that pushes it down the readers throat.
I look forward to reading the next.

Annabelle and her sister Ashley are ghost chasers of sorts. One night unexpected someone jumps in front of their car. Who would know that A voodoo Academy existed. Will Annabelle who has a living soul living insider take the chance and go? Will her sister go to the reservation and become a shaman? Can they go their separate ways for awhile? What will Annabelle do? Can she help what’s coming?

„Voodoo Academy“ the first installment in the “Gates of Eden: The Voodoo Legacy” Series by Theophilus Monroe is an injection of fresh air in an already very competitive subgenre in Urban Fantasy. Combining a solid knowledge of VooDoo and general urban fantasy tropes the series offers a good overview on VooDoo lore for the informed reader without overwhelmed those who are only interesting in the story as a fantasy plot for pure entertainment. This in itself is already a huge accomplishment.
Annabelle Mulledy has been possessed by the spirit of Isabelle since her childhood. Isabelle a former slave girl, have picked some very interesting abilities since her own death, which gives Annabelle an edge when interacting with “otherworldly” situations. In “Voodoo Academy” Annabelle draws the attention of an evil loa, Kalfu, who hopes to steal Annabelle’s supernatural abilities for himself, much to Annabelle’s detriment. When the Loa of War, Ogoun, intervenes recruiting her into the Voodoo Academy, it seems she has gained a powerful ally in the fight against Kalfu, but soon Annabelle will be throwing out between the fences, asking herself whether Ogoun motives are as clear as it appears.
Theopilus Monroe has succeeded in throwing the right amount of facts and fiction into the mix to create a series that is highly entertaining while still handling the Voodoo world with the deserved respect and using the Voodoo-Verse as a metaphor for adolescence. The book is well written, action-packed and fast-paced with some breaks to give some insights into the everyday teenager angst and the surprisingly no-nonsense solutions teenagers sometimes find to their seemingly very complicated lives.
A very good start in a fresh and innovative Series.
This is book 1 of the Gates of Eden: The Voodoo Legacy series. This is a really great start for the series. I loved the characters and the storyline. I found both well written and the book hard to put down. I love the cover also!! I’m looking forward to the next book and would recommend reading.

This is a new author for me and this is a great start to a new series. The inner dialogue between Annabelle and Isabelle will make you laugh and how they came together is interesting. Battles, voodoo, wicked twists, and mastering powers. I can’t wait for the next book.

Voodoo Academy is an entertaining romp into the world of voodoo, that engages you slowly and steadily. Two of the main characters, Annabelle and her sister Ashley, make a living as paranormal investigators, which would be odd anywhere outside of reality TV and New Orleans. It suits them as Annabelle also has a sort of soul twin, Isabelle, a former slave, and a Dryad. How those two came together, literally, is an exciting tale. Annabelle and Isabelle’s experiences are intriguing, especially when one does something that the other does not want to do. Some of their inner dialogs will make you chuckle and laugh out loud.
Annabelle receives an invitation to attend the Voodoo Academy after an encounter with a supernatural called a Loa. At the same time, Ashley sets off to learn the ways of a Native American Shaman. At the Academy, Annabelle experiences much in the supernatural that is both dramatic, exciting, and a bit scary. The suspense and action in this story come through the characters’ use of voodoo. All and All, this is an entertaining first book in this series.
