Oh the darkness within these pages! I was warned and I’m still not sure if I was ready.
I was fascinated watching Yury’s upbringing and the makings of a truly cold-hearted man. Yet, there were small glimpses into yearnings and emotions of a kinder nature. He just didn’t know how to grasp them as that was not how he was taught/trained to be. Each chapter further into the story brought more depravity than the last. This man was truly a monster of epic proportions.
This story also brought so many secrets and twists to light. It was a truly tangled web that had been created and maintained over both time and continents.
Watching Yury struggle with so many internal and external things pulled my emotions to and fro. This book was brilliant and painful in equal measure. I can’t wait to what comes next in this series.
I have no words for this book! It’s Yury’s story. I have a love- hate relationship with Yury. I think Yury is a heartless person. Sometimes I really really hate him with all my heart. While I keep reading, I begin to understand why he acts and hurt people. Yury is lost and he doesn’t know what kindness, compassion and love is! Wolf and Whitney help him to realize he has a heart and feel love. This will help him to open his eyes, heart and soul. India is an amazing writer!
3.5 stars.
This is a difficult review for me to write. In one hand Volatile Waters was a dark, raw and gritty romance which tackles the human slavery with brutal honesty. I absolutely respect and admire the author for writing such a harsh but true story. On the other hand , I had real problem continuing with the story because the ugliness and depravity was too much for my soul.
I have read dark stories plenty. The triggers were not an issue. The issue for me was the darkness did not give any reprieve at all. And there was no romance. Until the very end and even that was tainted with blood and misery. The writing was amazing as it achieved the goal of making it as real as possible. May be I had trouble reading it as I went in thinking it to be dark romance and I found only darkness.
Unfortunately this story was not for me. But the writing was beautiful and I will definitely read other books by her those are not from this world.
