From USA Today Bestselling Author Dani René comes the second book in the bestselling Gilded Sovereign Series. A new adult romance filled with violence, blood, and a lot of steam! I want to be Rukaiya’s hero, but she’s made it clear she can take care of herself. Her fire burns me. Her fierce nature lures me in. She’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing, and I want her to devour me. She enjoys defying me … devour me. She enjoys defying me and I love to taunt her.
I always get the girl.
Every. Single. Time.
And this time is no different.
He’s trying to be my knight in shining armor, but I don’t need him to be. That’s what I tell myself, anyway. Etienne doesn’t give up easily. He’s adamant to change my mind. Only, he doesn’t realize that being with me could get him killed.
As I push, he pulls, and one of us is about to get wounded.
Secrets. Desire. Violence.
Our love is volatile.
When secrets are spilled, nobody is safe.

I give this book 3.5 stars
Rukaiya and Etienne have a wild story.
Rukaiya is mixed up with her father’s problems. But she can’t get away from him. She can’t escape because she knows he will kill her.
Etienne knows he has to protect Rukaiya even if she doesn’t want it. Why does he need to save her? Well, he doesn’t know. But something inside him tell him he needs to save her.
Rukaiya and Etienne get their HEA but the ride there is wild.
They are both stubborn. They both fight each other at every turn.
Secrets and betrayal. Twists and turns. Suspense and murder.
This book has a little bit of everything.
I did not connect with this book as much as I did the first book. I felt it took a while to get into the story. I was probably about 40% before I really got into the book but then I felt that the characters didn’t really develop. I wish I could have connected more with this book, but it just didn’t happen for me.
DENISE’S DREAMY REVIEW
Volatile Love is book two in the Gilded Sovereign series and it follows Etienne and Rukaiya. The journey for these two was definitely an interesting one! We meet them first in Cruel War and as we follow them in book two, we’re given a mix between insta-love and slow burn!
Rukaiya is a take no crap type of girl! She’s fiesty and fierce while Etienne just had me by heart when we first meet him and get to know him better in this story! There’s something about him that I was drawn to and gah, I LOVE HIM!
Dani Rene truly doesn’t disappoint with the way she weaves a story and is able to give things away, while still keeping things so hidden! The twists and turns, suspense, and mystery. The series of events truly kept me turning the pages, and just the interesting development between Etienne and Rukaiya is everything!!!
Four and a half dreamy stars:
Holy angst and all the secrets and trying to keep in place all the moving pieces — this book was incredible. Etienne and Rukaiya have an incredibly twisted relationship with everything going on around them yet their connection is undeniable. There really is so little to be said without giving anything away and this book has me absolutely longing for the next book to see where all these moving pieces are going and some answers to all the ground work that has been placed.
This is the second book in the Gilded Sovereign series, and it is just as wonderful as the first. Dani Rene has yet again managed to weave a mystery shrouded in layers of murky truth. Etienne and Rukaiya wade through the truths, the lies and secrets to find each other at its core. Letting go of fears is never easy, but it helps when you have something else to hold onto.
Etienne and Rukiaya are a force to be reckoned with and make no mistake to underestimate any of this Sovereign boys, or you will PAY for it! And here story comes up in the force of nature when they need to do something and are set on doing so like written in stone.
Etienne, he was so so captivating here and made me swoon over him for the most of the time. He was a really intriguing male character and for sure I want to be on his good side.
Rukiaya – a girl with such strength that made me cheer for her so strong ad going into her lace in my mind that made e feel it like I was connected with her on some deep level. I have high hopes for those two, as they should play much role in the next books as I loved them!
This is the continuation of Etienne and Rukaiaya from cruel war. This was such a wild ride. You’re sucked into this world full of secrets and dangers. As the story progress you learn bit by the truths and secrets. I was captivated from beginning to end. It steamy and dark, perfect Dani Rene read !
I have several of Ms. Rene’s books on my shelf, however, this is the third I’ve read. This Gilded Sovereign series has me hooked! I had a very difficult time putting this down. I love twisting and turning, angst-y romance novels and Ms. Rene is oh so satisfying that love! We met the hero and heroine in Cruel War, and I loved their development in Volatile Love. I learned a lot here, and my interest is piqued to see what’s next! Great job keeping me hooked! Wonderful story-telling!
4.5 stars for the second in the Gilded Sovereign series! Exciting and fast moving the book expands upon the ruthless, sectretive society which is totally ruthless and self serving and the war between different generations.
Rukaiya and Etienne are a fabulous pairing as both are much more than they appear. Rukaiya’s life has given her so much strength in order to survive and she is a worthy partner for anyone. Her independence is alluring and definitely attracts Etienne!
It was also good to catch up with the rest of this unusual little family, and the further secrets revealed add to the strength of the book while also tantalise you with the promise if further dirty dealings and dark revalations! So good!
I enjoyed this story. It was gritty in places, steamy in others, full of friendship and family and greed. Rukaiya’s world got turned upside down on many occasions, but I loved her determination to move beyond and love Etienne. As for Etienne, he was prone to violence but he had a very soft side when it came to Rukaiya. Then he was romantic and protective. It did get a little confusing at times, keeping all the players straight but most definitely worth the read.
I received a copy of this story through Enticing Journey Book Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.
Royalty and rules are a running theme throughout this series. There are secret agendas at work here, while Etienne and Rukaiya fight their feelings and work to uncover the secrets that threaten to unbalance the Gilded Sovereign. This was an exciting read, full of revelations.
I like a strong female lead, but at times I wanted Rukaiya to give in a little. Etienne was such a hot head, but nothing and no one was going to come between him and his little wolf! Their attraction was insanely hot. I loved the loyalty between Etienne, Ares and Tarian, and I can’t wait to see what happens next!
This book was dark and unpredictable. I had really hoped to enjoy it more. I just thought the first book was more entertaining and enjoyable.
Volatile Love is the second book in this interconnected series that features different couples. We’ve met Etienne and Rukaiya on book one and from the way that book ended, I’ve been wanting to read their story.
The story continued where it left off with Etienne going to London as he followed a lead that Rukaiya was there with her father. From there we’ve gotten to know the main characters backstories while we are getting more deeply inside the Sovereign’s world and its workings.
“Me— on the other hand— all I wanted was to feel needed, to feel loved.”
For all his acts, Etienne just wanted what money can’t buy. With a father who abandoned him to self obssessed mother, he found companionship with his friends. This time, he might finally find love with Rukaiya.
“I didn’t need a goddamned knight in shining armor. I was strong and independent.”
Rukaiya learned early in life to fend for herself when her mother died and she was left with an evil father. She may want Etienne but she knows that they couldn’t possibly work with the way the situation is.
Nevertheless, these two had to fight for their life and love as more secrets were uncovered. Overall, a pretty much good read and I’m excited to read Tarian’s next!
Revenge may be sweet, but it comes with a bitter aftertaste.
Volatile Love is book two in the Gilded Sovereign Series by Dani René. We started off this series with Cruel War (The Gilded Sovereign Book 1) which was AHH-MAZING! Although Volatile Love is a part of a series, it CAN be read as standalone. BUT with that being said, it is SOO much better reading the books in order! In Cruel War, we met quite a few characters, and two of those amazing characters were Etienne Durand and Rukaiya Harrison. Told in dual POV, you are not going to want to miss their story! Questions are answered, and even more secrets are unraveled. We are going back into the Gilded Sovereign!
Volatile Love picks up where Cruel War left off.
I’ll find her.
And when I do, I’m taking her back to where she belongs—Tynewood.
Dahlia’s best friend Rukaiya is missing. After everything went down with Abner Rukaiya’s father, Fergus, took off with Rukaiya and they have both disappeared from Tynewood.
When the guys find out that Rukaiya and her father are in London, Etienne is on the first plane there. Etienne knows there has to be more to the story of her father’s involvement with the Sovereign and he is determined to locate her.
The world was my oyster; I had everything I could dream of, until the moment she walked into my town, challenging me with every conversation I attempted, and then she disappeared without a trace. And that’s why I find myself in London— a world away from Tynewood— to find the beauty who’s caused my insanity.
Only things don’t go over as smoothly as he hoped once he gets there…
Etienne wants to be Rukaiya’s knight in shining armor but Rukaiya doesn’t need nor want his help. She’s been taking care of herself for a long time and is determined to keep it that way. So she continues pushing Etienne away in hopes to save him instead.
Stop trying to save me, Etienne. I’m not a damsel, I don’t need a knight in shining armor.
As more secrets are brought to light Rukaiya is learning more and more about Fergus’s association with the Sovereign and just how truly awful of a man he is. But Fergus has plans for Rukaiya, and he isn’t going to let her go easily…
Fear keeps us prisoner in the one place we need to escape.
Whether Rukaiya likes it or not, Etienne isn’t going anywhere until she’s safe and back with him in Tynewood where she belongs.
But what happens when ghosts from the past come back to haunt them…?
I’m lost to the truth. And it’s brutal, raw, and volatile. Just like love.
Gahh this series, this book, these characters! Filled with mystery, lies, suspense, betrayal, deceit, and passion I was HOOKED from the beginning to the end! There are secrets galore and every time you think you are closer to unraveling things, BOOM! There are three more secrets taking its place!
Same as with Cruel War, the secondary characters add so much MORE to the story. Dani René has created a dark and twisted world within this town and these characters. With each story, the secondary characters’ are being developed so that when it’s time for THEIR story, we are already in love with them. I loved the scenes where Etienne and Rukaiya were hanging out with Ares and Dahlia, it was a nice little catch up with the two of them. And I REALLY loved the scene between Tarian and Rukaiya when he was about to get in his car (if you read the book you’ll know what I’m talking about ) that was a nice little look inside of him and GAHHH I can NOT wait for his story!
Are you always so volatile?
Only when I’m in love.
After reading Cruel War, I saw Etienne as the funny one; the joker; the playboy. He’s actually far more complex than I gave him credit for. Etienne is hard to explain but I love his smart mouth and his cocky little smirk and I adored how protective he was of Rukaiya. He was determined to save his little wolf, whether she wanted him to or not. We see a completely different side to him in Volatile Love and once he gets his girl, he’s never letting her go.
Don’t ever think you can run, because once I’ve made my mind up, there is no escaping me.
We only got a small glimpse of who Rukaiya was in book one, it mainly focused on her friendship with Dahlia. But this time around, we learn things about her that I never expected. Rukaiya isn’t the fragile, naive girl she appears to be. She’s resilient and she knows what she has to do to protect herself. I never imagined she went through everything she went through as a child. In Cruel War, I had a different impression of the kind of person her father, Fergus, was… I was wrong. My heart broke for Rukaiya and the things she went through, all the while remaining as strong as she is. Yeah, Rukaiya is most definitely one of my favorite characters from this series.
You’re a predator, little wolf. I’m merely your prey tonight,
In Cruel War, you could see the attraction between these two so I already knew that when they FINALLY came together it was going to be EXPLOSIVE! Both of them were so damn stubborn that it took a bit for them to get it together, but when they did René definitely didn’t let me down as far as the steam factor goes!
They don’t call me the god of love for nothing, little wolf,
Dani René has done it again with Volatile Love. She has created this amazing dark and twisted secret world that I am completely obsessed with. I don’t know how she does it but she continues to pull me into this world with only her words. I can’t get enough of this series and these characters and I am not so patiently waiting for the next book!
There are no happy families in Tynewood, all that’s left are the scars of lies and deception from the past.
That ending… *SIGH *. Let me just tell you that Tarian’s story is up next and throughout Volatile Love, his book was set up PERFECTLY. Although some questions were answered and some secrets were revealed, the plot is getting thicker and there is still a whole lot of mystery and deceit surrounding the Sovereign and I am on the edge of my seat, counting down the days until the release of book three, ED!
If you read Cruel War then I don’t have to tell you that you NEED to read Volatile Love and if you haven’t then what are you waiting for?! Mystery, lies, suspense, betrayal, deceit, and passion, what more could you ask for?! I highly recommend Volatile Love as well as Cruel War, MUST READ!

This story was a roller coaster ride for Etienne and Rukaiya. It was a mix between slow boring and insta love.
I had a little bit of a hard time connecting with the characters but I was happy to be able to see everybody from the Cruel War.
I can’t wait to see what happens in Tarian’s book!
This is the second book in this phenomenal series and is Etienne and Rukaiya’s story. In this story secrets from the past are revealed, leaving mixed emotions as a result. This is a well written story which is mind-blowing, and filled with secrets, suspense, violence, complex characters, and passion, which all had me hooked and intrigued throughout this addictive page turner. I highly recommend for all readers.
OMG!!!
Everything that dani writes is pure gold and this one was no exception it was amazing.
The relationship between the main characters had me mesmerised, I was gripped from the very first page.
Dani completely blew this one out of the ballpark
AMAZING!!!
I absolutely loved everything about the second book in the Gilded Sovereign books. Etienne and Rukaiya’s story Was above and beyond five stars!!! DanI Rene has outdone her normal brilliant writing and really moved up to phenomenal!!!!
I think this one was a bit much better then Ares and Dahlia story. It had more of the intensity of what was going on that it literally put me at the edge of my sit well more likely at the edge of my bed! And we still have more to come! I can not wait and see how all this will end. And who will be next!
Volatile Love is centered around Etienne and Rukaiya.

She may seem like a meek young girl.
But she is one tough cookie.
Etienne and Rukaiya’s relationship is fragile and rocky.
But the chemistry between them is a sure thing and sizzling hot.
Slowly Ms. Rene starts to reveal some unanswered questions.
But the mystery continues!
Book 2 in The Gilded Sovereign and the action keeps on coming.
Your turning the pages, soaking up the sexual tension, learning who’s who and what part they play in this twisted tale. The plot gets thicker and the need for vengeance gets stronger. You think you’ve got all your ducks in a row and bang!! The secrets start to unravel and this story takes on a whole new light.
Looking forward to the next loop in the rollercoaster of this scandalous series.
