They say you always want what you can’t have.
From the moment I laid eyes on Vivienne Parker, I knew I was fighting a losing battle. I want to believe that I’m better than this–that I wouldn’t cross that line–but deep down, I know if I were ever given a chance, there’s no way in hell I’d refuse.
She’s my uncle’s wife, so why does it feel as if she is mine?

A truly unique, brilliantly written, gut wrenching story of love, loss, family and conflict. This read consumed me with different emotions, as the author seamlessly takes us on an unforgettable journey with her characters. How life is so unpredictable, and the impact our actions have on us and others.
The story of Vivienne, her life, her guilt, her mistakes and the consequences had to be read in order to understand what this book is about. Reid, her 18 year old nephew, a kid did what he had to do to help his aunt and in the end we see him turn into a beautiful man.
To say more about the story and the other characters would give up spoilers. Some reviewers have suggested to just read it blindly and that is so true!
Just read it!
What a great debut novel Heather Orgeron
The first few chapters of this book had me feeling so sad and emotional, that I wasn’t sure I could keep reading. I personalised the start of this book and it was breaking my heart. Then I realised – Heather M Orgeron is a great writer – I am feeling exactly what she intended with this writing.
Whilst her writing is beautiful, I had some troubles with the story line itself. The characters themselves are gorgeous. I just had trouble wrapping my mind around the relationships that were forming.
Vivienne is happy and content. She has a gorgeous house, an amazing 3 year old daughter and her soul mate right by her side…… Until he isn’t.
After a car crash claims the life of Viv’s soulmate, Abbott, she doesn’t know how to rebuild. How do you keep going when the person who is meant to be next to you the whole time, is no longer there? How do you parent your daughter alone, when you were meant to do it together?
Reid is an 18 year old boy about to embark on his college life. But before he starts he has agreed to help his Aunt Viv over the summer holidays.
Problem….. Reid looks exactly like Abbott.
Something I really loved about this book was the twist at the end – well it was for me! I enjoyed being a bit surprised… But then it did make my emotions for these characters go a bit haywire again
The only reason I’m not giving it more stars is purely based on my trouble connecting with the actual relationships in the book. I loved the characters! I loved the writing style! I will definitely be reading more of Heather’s work.

I cried the entire book. While I’m sad the ending wasn’t what I wanted, it worked for this story.
This story gave me all the darned feels. I felt it all….pain, lust, anger, fear, sorrow, love, embarrassment. With a few twists to make it not be predictable, Viv’s life and her pain is palpable and easily felt throughout the book. Whatever you think, think again, and again.
You will need a box of tissues while reading this beautiful heartfelt book. The author takes you on an emotional epic love story. Not all love stories end in forever, but even though your soul mate leaves doesn’t mean your life is over.
Favorite quote: “There are moments in life that you can’t ever forget. They are the ones that define us. Moments that we don’t only experience but change who we are as a person. From that moment forward, who you were five minutes ago no longer exists.”
I’ve read all this authors previous books and I knew going in this was going to be different but I didn’t expect it to be anywhere near as emotional as it was. This book hit me with all the feels. It deals with some pretty serious topics in a very sensitive way. The characters are extremely easy to like and the story had me hooked from start to finish. A really good book and hard to believe it was the authors debut book.
This book is heavy on the emotions. Loss, anxiety, depression, longing. It’s all there. Along with it a beautiful story of the struggle of losing the love of your life. I cried a few times, it felt so real. Absolutely adored the story and the characters.
