It had great characters and a great story line.
Even though I prefer to read the book first, this time I watched the show before reading the book. Even so, I really enjoyed it. The characters were engaging and the setting was beautiful. I read the first three books in the series and was interested to find that the plot didn’t match the tv show.
One of the best series I have read, I read these several years ago but still remember them very well I enjoyed every one of the books.
I loved the people and the story. Kept me interested and wanting to read more.
Loved the entire series. Am now watching it on Netflix.
I love the Virgin River series. Robyn Carr is always a sure bet!
I read anything by this author. Love the Netflix series too!!
This is book one in The Virgin River Series and it is Melinda and Jack’s story and wow what another brilliant book in The Virgin River Series. Melinda has been recently widowed and she needs to get away so when she sees an advert for a nurse/midwife in Virgin River she decides to just go for it but things don’t always go as planned. Jack is a former U.S. Marine and runs the bar in Virgin River and he is smitten by Melinda but will it all work out of not. Robyn Carr is a brilliant author and writer and I look forward to reading more of her books.
I voluntarily reviewed an Arc copy of this book.
Virgin River by Robyn Carr is a contemporary novel about community, grief and new beginnings. It is the first book in the Virgin River series which promises to be heart-warming.
The area of Virgin River represents a complete change of life as a character tries to overcome a devastating loss. From big city and a busy ER to a sleepy mountain town with just one doctor, the contrast could not be greater. However there are still similar problems with unsavoury situations and not always as safe as it may at first seem. There are still challenges to face and situations to overcome.
There are some huge hearts within the novel – hearts that look for the best in others as they try to improve and save lives.
The sense of community runs through out. Most people offer a warm welcome to strangers. Needs are met as a town pulls together.
The heroine is a plucky young woman with an air of vulnerability. You cannot help but love her as she looks for the best in everyone she meets.
It is never too late to have a new beginning. We may fear leaving the old behind but we will never move forward if we keep one foot in the past.
Virgin River was a charming novel with heart-warming characters. It will leave you smiling.
A word of caution: there were ‘bedroom’ scenes with far too much detail for me, so I just skipped over these pages. It did not detract from my overall enjoyment of the novel which was positively charming.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
I’ve read just about the whole series and thy are so good you just can’t put them down. Their a book you can read by itself no cliffhanger but the people continue in each book so it just keeps adding to the story. I have to say one of the best series I’ve ever read
Well written and populated with nice people
A beautiful love story. I was completely floored when I realized who the baby belonged to. I did not see that coming. Robyn Carr is a new author for me so I wasn’t really sure what to expect for the ending. I was not disappointed. I’m looking forward to reading more of her work in the future.
love being in this world
Robyn Carr is a master of heartfelt romances and a wonderful cast of characters! I haven’t yet started the Netflix series, but this book is a movie on the pages all by itself.
If you love some cute rom-com, this one is definitely for you.
I won a copy of this book from the author, I was not required to give a favorable review. This is a beautiful story of starting over, healing and finding love and community after loss. Melinda was a Nurse Practioner in a LA emergency room, and her husband was an ER doctor until one night he didn’t come home and the police showed up at her door. She lost her husband to a shooting death in his local quick mart. She was now a widow and felt she needed a new start so she went totally different than where she lived and took at position in a little town called Virgin River, but when she got there her car almost didn’t, her housing was a mess and the doctor didn’t want her. But she felt she needed to try and then there is Jack, the ex-marine who turned his little house into a bar/restaurant to serve the area. Jack has his ghost from serving too many tours to count and having his friend come help him cook. But when he meets Melinda, he decides he can’t let her go. So his fixes the cabin without her knowing, then shows her the area. But some how two people not looking for love, find it. I loved this book and look forward to reading more.
This is a very good read and the mini series follows it perfectly! Great characters!
This book begins a series that will make you wish this town exists so you could go there and meet all these people and become one of them. If you’ve seen the movie, be prepared for differences. Book is much better!!!!! Might as well buy the next few in the series, because you’re gonna keep coming back for more!
I wish this town really existed, because I would move there. Love the people, especially Jack. You feel like you are really there and know them. Love all the Virgin River books.
I am not sure what it is about this book, but I am hooked on the story of Mel and Jack. I have read and re-read this book numerous times.
