Vintage is Susan Gloss’s sparkling debut novel in the vein of The Friday Night Knitting Club, centered around a Midwestern vintage clothing shop and and a group of women who eventually transform the store and each others’ lives.
At Hourglass Vintage in Madison, Wisconsin, every item in the boutique has a story to tell . . . and so do the women who are drawn there.
Violet Turner has always dreamed … there.
Violet Turner has always dreamed of owning a shop like Hourglass Vintage. When she is faced with the possibility of losing it, she realizes that, as much as she wants to, she cannot save it alone.
Eighteen-year-old April Morgan is nearly five months along in an unplanned pregnancy when her hasty engagement is broken. When she returns the perfect 1950s wedding dress, she discovers unexpected possibilities and friends who won’t let her give up on her dreams.
Betrayed by her husband, Amithi Singh begins selling off her old clothes, remnants of her past life. After decades of housekeeping and parenting a daughter who rejects her traditional ways, she fears she has nothing more ahead for her.
An engaging story that beautifully captures the essence of women’s friendship and love, Vintage is a charming tale of possibility, of finding renewal and hope when we least expect it.

This book was a nice easy read. Of course not too far into it, I figured one portion out but I found it to still be a nice read.
A couple of the characters at one point or another, I wanted to yell at, but I am one of those people that immerse themselves into the story.
A nice read for a wintery weekend, wet/rainy weekend or a nice weekend at the beach. Did not take long to read but I did enjoy it.
Wish there was closure on one or two items but that’s alright….it is a story.
I enjoyed listening to the audiobook edition of this book. What a wonderful exploration into the lives of several women at different stages in their life…young, middle age, and older adult. And all of the issues they each face will touch your heart. Violet, April, and Amithi are each amazing and strong women who are struggling to find themselves and their purpose in life.
And then when you add in a delightful octogenarian and the drag queens and you will be entertained.
A sweet women’s novel that will have you delving deep into the pages as you travel with the characters and anticipate what adventure they each will face next.
I really enjoyed this book, the characters and the way the clothing story and clothing pieces tied into the story.
I enjoyed this book, but wasn’t obsessed by it. The characters were likeable, but not the kind I never want to lose. I couldn’t say exactly why–it was well written and had a decent plot, but just was lacking something. It’s a good book to read if you need something to occupy you but won’t keep you from putting it down, and there’s a lot to be said for that.
OTHER GIRLS FRIENDSHIP BOOK…VERY GOOD.
A light entertaining read
A pleasant story about a struggling shopkeeper trying to build her business and the challenges she faces, as well as the relationships she builds.
Enjoyed the story line. Good reading.
Entertaining, a bit bittersweet. Kept me committed to the story line until the end, and I’m not giving anything away.
Interesting characters, good story and somewhat thought provoking.
I didn’t want to put this book down. I do most of my reading in bed because it helps me relax and fall asleep. This book is a reason why I read way into the night. I high recommend this book!
Sweet story with believable characters.
I’M SORRY, READ IT QUITE A WHILE AGO AND CANNOT REMEMBER THE STORY.
Sweet story about family, friends, and love that comes wrapped in many packages. The whimsical addition of vinatage items was enchanting.
Rather an Enchanting Read or Audible Listen. I would say it was a cross between Cinderella and a Cozy Mystery. With a Happy Ever After Ending.
Fun read for days you don’t want to think too much.
Ahhhhhh..
