In the Virginia countryside outside of Washington, DC, Addy Wentworth was on a mission to make a new life for herself. When the opportunity arose, she settled in horse and wine country. Experiencing more than her fair share of tragedy and loss, she had plans for her future, one where failure wasn’t an option. And not just because people and cows were counting on her. She’d poured everything she … she had into her struggling vineyard, because once she’s in, she’s all in.
After giving himself wholly to the job for ten years, Crew Vega was done. He’d fulfilled his commitment, done his duty, gone above and beyond to settle the score. And the score was high. All he had to do was train his replacements and he’d be out for good.
He had a plan, one that didn’t include getting involved with his new neighbor, a woman who not only kept cows for pets, but treasured her employees as family, and understood him better than anyone ever had before. But when he learned a high level CIA target being investigated for treason was keeping tabs on her?
No, he never planned on that.
And like everything Crew Vega did in life, when he goes in, he’s all in.
Warning: I’m a devout member of the mama club and don’t want to get kicked out by angry mamas. If you aren’t eighteen, turn around, go drink your milk and eat your veggies, it’s good for your bones. And go to bed early, you’re still growing, your body needs sleep. And don’t text and drive. And be nice, sit with the kid who sits alone at lunch. And read a PG-13 book, it’s good for your brain. And go tell your mama you love her. Chop-chop, run along now. I’ll see you back when you’re eligible to vote.

This a new to me author.
This book has been sitting on my kindle for a while and I’m kicking myself for not reading sooner.
What a fantastic way to start a series.
Diving into book 2 immediately!
4.5 Stars! Vines is the first book in Brynne Asher’s new Killers series. I was over the moon happy when I found out Brynne was releasing a new book. I fell in love with her writing and characters in the Carpino series, and knew I couldn’t miss out on this new adventure. Especially when cows and wine were involved. 🙂
Summary:
After suffering her own fair share of tragedy and loss, Addy Wentworth has made it her mission to find a new life for herself. The peace and potential Addy found just happened to be a struggling vineyard in the Virginia countryside. Now with her employees and pet cows depending on her, failure isn’t an option. Crew Vega has had a very different kind of mission for the last ten years, but he’s done. He’s sacrificed and lost bits of himself in the name of his career and country, and he’s ready for a new chapter. He has a plan. If he sticks to it, he’ll finally be done for good. But he never expected his plan to involve getting mixed up with his new neighbor. But the more time he spends with Addy, the less he can stay away. Of course, chemistry can’t be turned off and on, so Crew can’t help but be intrigued by and attracted to the trusting woman. When danger in the form of a CIA target being investigated for treason starts communicating with Addy, Crew must put his skills to use and get involved. But both Crew and Addy have secrets, and with the and their increasing intimacy, they won’t stay buried for long. Crew, must decide how much he’s willing to tell Addy about his former career, and Addy isn’t quite who she says she is. Can a future be possible when the past is full of lies and secrets and danger is closing in?
I was hooked from the prologue. Ms. Asher knew what she was doing when she decided to open this book with Crew Vega. Talk about heroes! Crew was a fantastic male lead. He was intense, alert, yet relaxed, no nonsense, and very mysterious. You couldn’t help but to be pulled in, just with the promise of getting to figure him out. I liked Crew’s backstory and situation. It made for some action and added to the mystery. It’s not a seamless transition for him, but he’s more than ready and determined. Following up the mysteriousness of Crew, we meet our charming heroine. Addy was one of my favorite types of heroines. She’s sweet, funny, hard working, a little quirky, and has a bit of mystery surrounding her, too. While the reason she found her winery was a sad one, it was a profession that fit her well. My favorite aspect of the winery is Addy’s pet cows. I love Addy’s interactions with them, and they bring a bit of comic relief to a mostly serious story line. The chemistry between Crew & Addy was almost immediate. Their banter was sweet and funny. They were both surprised and a little wary about their feelings for the other, since neither had experienced it before. Their intimacy was perfectly timed and for the most part, fit the story. I did have trouble with one scene, as it just didn’t seem to fit and came out of nowhere. During this scene, Addy also kind of ruined it for me with her repeated paranoia about Crew’s pinkie. It made it an awkward moment to read. We met a lot of characters in the book. Mostly supporting cast, but also a few faces we’ll see as MC’s in future books. I loved Addy’s employees, who were more like family to her. I wish we could have met more characters close to Crew, like maybe his family. I feel like it would have explained him in a different way. Overall, it was a great start to the series. We got both Crew and Addy’s POV, as well as a third person’s POV a couple of times. I love having both the MC’s POV. It seems to make the story more well-rounded. The third person’s POV was a surprise, but gave us insight into situations we wouldn’t otherwise have had. The mystery surrounding both Crew and Addy was very well done. With Crew, you just knew he was badass in some way, but needed the whole story. With Addy, it was a surprise that she even had a mystery. I’m looking forward to Grady and Maya’s story, and where the series will go from here. <3
Loved it , now I need to read Grady’s story
I was introduced to Brynne Asher when I read the spin off novella Until the Tequila which I absolutely loved. I enjoyed this story and I want to keep reading this series. There are some really cute bits that makes you fall in love with this couple along with the secrets and lies you want in a romantic suspense. I felt a little confused by Crew. He is the awesome Alpha protector who is sweet and caring and yet displays some childish behavior towards Addy that I just couldn’t make sense of. And then he makes this decision towards the end that simply baffled me because he is so protective of her. In addition, there is a lot of stories going on. I think, for me, it could have lost the extra threats or characters thrown into the mix and it would have been a bit more cohesive and the story would have moved at a better pace. In the end I still think Crew is very sweet and Alpha dominating hot in the bedroom. I will be reading Paths because I am all kinds of interested in what is going to happen with Maya and Grady and this story does set the next in the series up perfectly.

I discovered this author when I read Until the Tequila; part of the Happily Ever Alpha world. The secondary characters of Addy and Crew had me one clicking this book half way through reading Tequila.
I was hooked pretty quickly, perfect amount of suspense, steamy scenes and the pacing was perfect.
The secondary character Grady has me intrigued and ready to jump into his story.
Giddy, Happy and Intense, these are the first words that come to mind. This was a first read from Brynne Asher and I can now say I am hooked! Crew and Addy form a bond over a tragic past, both looking for a future they don’t expect. Addy and her awesomely named cows and Crew with his batch of rambunctious commandos are sure to brighten anyone who reads them. Can’t wait for the next book! This series seem to be available on KU, if you have it.
How did I not know this book existed before yesterday! It was pure luck I found it and thought sure let’s try it. Thank god I did because this will for sure be one of my favorite reads of 2019.
This book has everything I love in a good book
Sassy woman
Hunky, alpha military man
Action
Steamy
Humor
Can you ask for more? NO, you cant, this is all you need to create a bestseller, a hit, a 5-star review.
Let’s talk about Crew and Addy. See already there who is named Crew? Well, this badass is and he is as manly as his name. I love Crew, he is swoon-worthy and he will set your pants on fire. He has lived the last 10 years in the shadows, doing the work no one wanted and that no one ever talked about. But he finally got himself and some of his friends out and now they train new men to take over their old jobs. The place they have bought to train the new men is the places besides Addy’s Vineyard.
But how do you resist your sweet neighbor who has cows as pets and not only has them as pets but names them, talks to them and walks with them. How do you resist the woman that is not afraid to throw a fit when she thinks you act stupid but will smile at you when she gets tipped over by a cow.
Well don’t ask Crew he tried but it didn’t work.
Other than the romance between Crew and Addy there is all the action in the book with conspiracy, CIA, a car chase (sort of), going to the white house and so much more.
Are you not hooked yet and want to read this book ASAP I don’t know what to do with you. But I will tell you try it anyway and then come back after and thank me.
Not sure what exactly I was expecting when I started this book (besides a positive faith I’d enjoy it), but what I got was oh so much more!! Before I even got half way through the book I had to stop and reread chapters over and over again, because the moments were just…. heart-filled-deeply beautiful! Now if that doesn’t tell you it’s an amazing story that just sucks you in and makes you want to stay there…. I don’t know what else to tell you.
Addy and Crew were perfect for each other — not that they were perfect by any means, but they were perfect for each other. What they gave to each other… what they needed… their story was a hard-earned but recognized and treasured gift.
I’m simply adoring the Killers world and cannot wait to get more stories, and revisit them often!
This was my first book from Brynne and I’m so glad my Kindle actually suggested it as one of my ads because I was immediately drawn in. Crew. Sigh. He was everything I’d hope he’d be. Brynne knows how to write an alpha male! I was smitten from the beginning. Then you have Addy, who I equally enjoyed. She was such a hardworking woman who loved everyone around her as if they were family. I enjoyed getting to read about her vineyard. Then add in her cows and I had quite a few giggles throughout the novel. Lots of steam, lots of chemistry, lots of secrets that are revealed, and lots of suspense! Cannot wait to start Grady’s story next!
Loved this book! Sexy with a super alpha hero that was bossy in the best of ways. Yum!
DNF: I bailed at 16% when she goes shopping. I bail when I Don’t Care. He’s so inscrutable that I feel no empathy for him, and she’s supposed to be business savvy but doesn’t feel any different from any old heroine. Again, no empathy. Glowing reviews make me suspicious those were shill reviewers, honestly. The premise is buried under minutiae without enough for a reader to connect to. Also, it felt very much like he was going to have to rescue her, and I am not here for that.
I liked the heroine, but the premis was a bit far fetched. Not a horrible waste of time, but I wouldn’t buy it again.
Stumbled across Vines, it was free so I thought why not. Bonus points that while a series it was also a standalone… No pressure.
Brynne Asher, babe… Where ya been?! I’ve been in a horrible slump and boom here comes Vines with Addy and her motley crew running a beautiful winery in Virginia. Speaking of Crew, how about that reluctant and grumbly neighbor form operative now retired and running his “newbie operative in training” camp Crew Vega is noatch for Addy. Those two are delicious; even when Crew trys to do a runner they still warm my icy heart. Great characters with fabulous secondary characters and a storyline that kept me page turning.
Almost a year ago I read Gifts which is book 3 of The Killers series. I immediately purchased the prior two books. Well, life and ARC’s came up and I’m just now getting back to this series.
Oh, I wish I hadn’t waited to read Vines! Crew and Addison were the perfect couple! Crew was able to be the calm in the storm for Addison. The intrigue and suspense was the perfect balance.
I’m immediately starting Paths because with the little snippet of Grady’s story, I need to know!!!!
I really enjoyed this book. Great story line.
Loved the characters and originality of the story.
I loved this book and these characters. I could not wait to get back to the story each time I had to quit reading.
This book had it all. A little dominating passion, mystery, intrigue, romance, and humor.
cannot wait to read the next 2 books. It was hard to put down.
The story is good, keeps you reading however the romance is a bit unbelievable and farfetched. Still, except for some scenes, I enjoyed the book.
