It is GRITTY, realistic, steamy, and brutal, yet compelling and full of hope. A MUST-BUY prequel!
“VIKING THUNDER” is a short prequel to Emmanuelle de Maupassant’s STEAMY Viking Warrior series, and it is just as steamy and creative as the rest of her steamy and erotic romances in various tropes. It is an introduction to some of the main characters which will carry the novels in the series and to give some backstory to the first novel of the series “VIKING WOLF” which is scheduled to release sometime “very soon” as her website tells us. However, what you need to know beyond the steam, this is most definitely a lust love tale written so well, I had to get up and walk around a bit just to cool off and calm down. Writing with that kind of realism and emotional reaction is masterful! “VIKING THUNDER” is short, and I traditionally give at best, only 4 stars for short stories. However, “VIKING THUNDER” by Emmanuelle de Maupassant earned that 5th star with de Maupassant’s sensuous prose and its realistic, brutal, and historical rendition of pillage and plunder. I was given an ARC copy of “VIKING THUNDER” to prepare this honest voluntary review and the 5-star recommendation it has earned. I strongly suggest you purchase your copy of “VIKING THUNDER” today! Happy pages!
How can you not fall in love with a Viking story??? Sure there is the bad but there is always the good in the end. Or at least I always see it that way. You have to have the bad to balance out the good.
This is one of those books that just draws you in from the start and it makes you feel like you are right there and part of the book. It is just so descriptive and compelling.
I want more and more of these books.
Erik and Elswyth are the main characters of this book but there are so many other things happening that you need to know. I will not go into any of it as it just needs to be read to be enjoyed.

What a depiction of fictional historical events. It was excellent. This was very poignant. I enjoyed reading this novelette. It was very descriptive and provided enough information to stimulate my curiosity. I was able to imagine what the scenes might look like and how the characters expressions were like. This was a very good read and I look forward to the sequel Viking Wolf.
The first book in this series it is a well-written book that kept my interest until the end. I want to read the next book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and I also bought the book.
Attention grabbing, interesting read
This is my first book by Emmanuelle de Maupassant but it’s not my last. I enjoyed her setting and references to Norse mythology. I like her characterization of the heroine and the second female in the book. Elswyth is the chieftain’s wife and when the Vikings invade her village she becomes a widow. She realizes that to fight outright is futile as she will only end up dead. Now she realizes what happened with her mother and her own birth. She will not be a victim she will set her own course! Eirikis the Viking warrior leading this raiding party and recognizes Elswyth strength. Will these two forge a bond? They certainly have the chemistry! They have some intense and salacious scenes together and one MFF scene. This is a novelette prequel for Emmanuelle’s new series Viking Warriors. No HEA in this book. A cliffy too. Cant wait to read the next book in the series.
Loved the blurb on this book & i wasn’t disappointed . Life hasn’t been kind to Elswyth & she’s never felt like she fit into her village , wanting more than just a husband & children . Her life changes when a Viking long boat is beached due to a storm & she realises there can be more to life for a woman .Some violence & sex but if this is a taster then the series to come will be a feast
This book is about Elswyth and Eirik…and a myriad of other characters. Warning: This book has lots of sex in it, so if you’re not in to that you won’t like the book. It also has rape, various times through out the book. This book is a Trilogy all centered around Elswyth. It shows the brutality of Viking life along with the myths and legends surrounding that time. Elswyth is one hell of a strong woman, she goes through A LOT but manages to keep her sanity and her compassion. Through their rocky start, everything thrown at them, Elswyth and Eirik manage to find their happy ever after. This is a dark, some times violent, love story.
The prequel Viking Thunder, by Emmanuelle De Maupassant is certainly a book that I’m not use to reading. The book is a quick read, but Emmanuelle has placed a lot of information within it. Most was knowledge for the reader. This Information explains the Vikings history, beliefs and the family that they reside from. Eirik and Elswyth are two people who are drawn to each other.
Eirik sees Elswyth as a woman who will give him children. Elswyth sees Eirik, but her story tells of something more than Eirik. As the reader, I liked that Helka was there to explain what is the driving force behind her people. One part I didn’t find much interest is Faline’s character. I didn’t like her intruding in on Eirik and Elswyth romance.
This a very steamy book to read.
Emmanuella de Maupassant! YOU have done it again with these 3 amazing series. I love your books, what great dialog you bring to your readers you excite the senses and desires of the characters in your story. The men , head strong and powerful and your woman corrector smarty witty and not afraid of a challenge. This is a must grab and the author is so generous that she gives books and codes away. I will forever be a fan of the author. her books are amazing!!
Happy Reading and you will NOT be disappointed!!
First time reading this author and the last for me. To say I was disappointed with this book would be an understatement. The cover looked appetizing and the synopsis was very promising. However… this heat level of volcanic promised is actually a volcano that is far from erupting anytime soon. Everything described from the passion to the burning desire was nonexistent. I DNF and stopped at 44% because I just couldn’t take anymore and felt myself wasting my time with this book. The whole story lacked depth, character development and I couldn’t form a connection with the main character after getting halfway through so to me I just couldn’t get into it. This story is also very dark and twisted right from the beginning, which for having read Viking romance before this took a different view on things for me. That part didn’t bother me as much as the lack of the overall point to this story and the unfulfilled promises from just reading the plot of the book. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone, not worth the time or money.
Narrator does a good job****. The story doesn’t leave much to the imagination but it is not for the faint, like myself. Definitely too vicious to be considered as in anyway romantic. The author is upfront with the synopsis but most of the time, I don’t read those right before reading/listening because I prefer to be surprised. (Audible version)
Viking Warriors Book 0.5.

However as soon as they settle in the children of the village warn of another impending attack. Will the two new lovers be able to make it out alive?

Life is peaceful in the Northumbria village until the night the Vikings came. A damaged longboat seeks shelter whilst repairs are made. At the mercy of a savage band of Vikings, led by a formidable warrior Eirik.
For the first time, a man’s strength of will matches Elswyth’s own.
This is the prologue to the series & beautifully sets the scene for the following books. I’d recommend reading it before ‘Viking Wolf’. Elswyth is a strong woman who is drawn to Eirik but should she stay with her ailing grandmother or leave to go into the unknown?
I really should have done my research before picking up this title. I saw Viking and thought medieval romance and… well, I was wrong. The story is short and I wouldn’t call it a romance in any form. There’s not one ounce of love or romance in this book. There is a lot of violence (read rape) and graphic sex, but no love. There’s even a cliffhanger. It’s the first book in a series, but usually there’s closure in each book. Not so much here.
The bright spot was the narration. Emma Parry has a pleasant accent and good pacing. It was a solid performance, but nothing stood out as excellent.
This book just wasn’t for me. I get that Vikings are violent, but I can’t saw that I want to read about it within the pages of fictional story. I have the opportunity to read the next book in the series, but I’m not entirely sure I can stomach it.
A scorching page turner with gritty realism and rich Historical background. Loved this engaging story by Emmanuelle de Maupassaunt. Be sure to read the prequel short story, Viking Wolf!
I am glad I live in this day and age because this story is so real of the life back then. The women were strong and had to deal with so much. This has a lot of sexuality to it but the beginning is a lot of the men just taking it. A little rough to listen too. But it was a good story. The narrator did a great job bringing the story to life.

I liked the fact that the author didn’t glamorize nor romanticize the Viking practices. They did pillage and rape and the author doesn’t shy away from the topic. I enjoyed Helka and Elswyth’s friendship. The characters are well written and the story was interesting, although I wish it didn’t end with such a cliffy. It was very abrupt, even though knowing there’s a sequel. However, sometimes the writing came off as almost clinical.
Overall, it was an interesting novella.

I want to show my support for this author. You can tell that she really is passionate about the book she puts out. I enjoyed receiving her book and the characters she created. There were parts of it that were hard to read. From the very beginning, you get a real sense of the world she creates. I will look forward to seeing what else she comes up with in the future.
