In the far future, alien technology captured by the Union Earth Privateers has fueled Earth’s tenuous expansion from a single planet to a handful of systems across the Orion Spur.Victoria Marin, captain of the U.E. Condor, and her crew of Vultures have been running dry for months. In danger of losing her command and her credibility if she can’t locate fresh salvage, she locks onto the distress … distress signal of an alien ship in hopes of valuable cargo. What she finds instead is First Prince Tavram, the heir apparent to one of the largest empires in known space. Tavram’s ship has been crippled after narrowly escaping an ambush and his would-be assassin is coming to finish the job.
The Vultures launch a high risk mission to rescue the prince and recover every last scrap of xenotech they can before the hunter catches up to his prey. But there are more dangers than notorious interstellar assassins when it comes to ferrying alien princes across the stars, and Victoria must contend with dangerous alliances, old grudges, and even her own government if she means to bring her crew home alive. Whether she succeeds or fails, the consequences of her choices will affect the path of all humanity.

The author produced an interesting vision of a galaxy in which humans are one of the lesser species, and must use every small advantage to stay alive and, for the most part, unnoticed. Well written and easy to read.
I thought this was a wonderful and unpredictable space opera. I immediately bought the sequel when I finished.
A fantastic action packed thriller in deep space. When earth is dependent upon their ability to scavenge alien technology the pucker factor gets really tight when Vick’s ship gets too close to an alien warship tracking down the crown prince of an enemy alien race. So how and why is the crown prince rescued when their ship’s emergency engine finally fails?
Keep strapped into your acceleration couch to withstand all the twists and turns this book will take you.

Highly recommend this book. Fast paced, fresh characters. Could not put down the book until I finished reading it.
I want more from this world
Very enjoyable read, look forward to more from this author
Fun read. Had a few too many pages of how Vick worries, we get it in 1/3 as many.
A good read with interesting characters.
Fandamtastic! Hard core SF! Characters were filled out, background interesting, storyline well paced and balanced. Recommend for ANY Sci-Fi fan. Very original story, as a matter of fact, I intend to read the series!
Better-written than many (though a few run-on sentences the editor/s missed, far fewer than most SF from new writers I’ve seen). Well-developed, multidimensional characters you care about. Fairly complex plot with developments you didn’t see coming. Wry, tough, voice of “Vick” is refreshing and contrasts well with many of the other characters. I bought the next book in the trilogy–which I usually don’t do.
Fun to read and not overly complex but fun.
liked it so much I got book 2
A really good read. I am anxious to read more about Captain Vick and her crew of unusual specimens.
I get tired of action adventure, even SciFi, that is nonstop action with time between action to get to know the characters. This has plenty of time between the action parts so the characters become more than one dimensional. I also like the premise that Earthlings are low on the tech side, but extremely high on the aptitude/attitude side in a galaxy filled with highly intelligent species. Good read all the way through.
A whole new twist on space travel. For once we are not the premier force in the universe.
Good read, excellent space opera!
