Okay firstly, I need to give a trigger warning. Verona Blood contains upsetting scenes that could trigger readers. If you need more information on this, please please send me a message and I’ll give you the details I can’t include in my review.
Verona Blood is not a lighthearted book, or an easy read. It’s brutal, intense and unforgiving. It’s not for the faint of heart. And I know, I know, I read it and I’m all rainbows and unicorns and glitter… BUT I had to binge an entire season of RuPaul’s Drag Race afterwards. So in other words, if you do dive in have drag queens or my little pony at the ready for when it destroys your soul and messes with your head, because we all know Lili Saint Germain is the mind f***ing QUEEN of dark romance.
I’ve been trying to figure out a way to say the most important thing I feel about Verona Blood without giving away any of the plot because we all hate them spoilers! The best I can do is say that Lili Saint Germain challenges social perceptions exquisitely. It’s dark and it’s hard to read, but her writing flows effortlessly and the story is so gripping. Even as I was shaking, feeling like I might be sick, and struggling with some of the events that occurred, I was hooked and addicted, and I desperately needed to see Avery and Rome be okay! I craved all the insights into their past, I cried for the horror of their present, and I hoped desperately that I’d get to see a future for them that’d give me closure. You know I crave HEAs even more than I crave sexy heels and shopping sprees!
I am cautious and terrified for the next California Blood book, knowing it’s going to get even darker from here, but I NEEDS IT. I NEED ANSWERS. I need Avery to kick arse the way only a true Lili Saint Germain heroine can!
Anyone needing more details on the trigger warning can message my Facebook page: Katy’s Book Ramblings, or e-mail me at @gmail.com">katyakitchin@gmail.com, and I’ll happily help as much as I can!
Lili St. Germain’s most anticipated book Verona Blood is A dark tale of Shattered hearts and captured souls.
Lili’s modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet is phenomenal, her writing is impeccable and truly worth the wait.
Buckle up, sit back and get ready because Lili is about to take you on dark ride through California’s criminal underworld.
This book may not be suitable for safe readers. It contains, drugs, violence and Rape. If these are triggers for you steer clear.
Verona Blood is full of suspense, twists and turns and pulls at your heartstrings. It contains love, lies and deception.
Avery Capulet is getting ready to celebrate her 25th birthday, what’s ment to be a happy celebration for her ends up becoming her doom in more ways than one.
Rome Montague is the boy next door, betrayed by Avery a few years ago his hatred for her grew. He loved her at one point in their lives but getting thrown in jail for 2 years for a crime he didn’t commit turned him into a notorious drug dealer, criminal and thief. Always scheming and planning ahead Rome finds himself in a situation he didn’t see coming.
“Hate keeps you strong
Love. Makes. You. Weak.”
I can’t say much more without giving anything away. All I can say is GET READY for that cliffhanger ending!!
This is my favorite Lili read to date!! If I could rate it any higher I would
Can’t wait for the next book
“Love isn’t always a happy thing. Sometimes it’s a dirty habit, a vice that makes you miserable with need. A desperate addiction that threatens to kill you in every moment that you spend apart. There’s no happiness in love when you know it has an expiration date.”
This has been the most anticipated novel for me, so when it landed in my kindle I couldn’t wait to dive in. Having an addiction to all things dark can do that to you, so you could only imagine the high pitch squeal that came from me when I had it in my hands….
Wow just wow. I have only read one other novel by Lili St Germain, so I knew that I was going to get extraordinary. I knew I was going to get dark and I knew I was going to get twists that would blow my mind.
But lordy not only did I get extraordinary with Verona Blood, I got an array all kinds of mind manipulation, sickly twisted moments of depraved….And I loved every minute of it.
A modern twist to Romeo and Juliet, Verona Blood is perfection.
A dark tale about two people Avery Capulet and Rome Montague, enemies driven together under the unlikeliest of circumstances. The circumstance being kidnapping.
Avery is missing and everyone will be out for blood, looking to find her.
Rome is missing, but he won’t be missed, there will be nobody looking for him.
But who has taken them?
Who wants their blood?
Who wants them gone so bad that they will go to any length to destroy them?
Who is behind the mask ready to take from them?
My guess….I have no idea because when you are the heir to your fathers throne who owns the city it could be anyone.
And when you have created your own enemies by your own hands it could be anyone.
Guys Verona Blood is not to be missed. A powerful read that will leave you reeling and gasping for more.
5 stars
Avery Capulet, heir to a corrupt empire,is suppose to be married off to a man she cannot stand on her 25th birthday. As the only living heir to the Capulet fortune, she is fighting for her independence for what she wants and try please her father at the same time. Sadly, only one can be her destiny. Rome Montague used to be very close to the Capulet family until betrayal ripped their families apart. He wants revenge and thinks he found the perfect opportunity to seek it. Will she be stuck with Josh whom she hates? Will Rome find justice for the past? Told in dual POV; this ends in a cliffhanger and has a few twists! I can’t wait to see what happens.
4.5 stars
Lili St German has done it again with the first instalment of the California Blood series. Verona blood was everything I was hoping it would be. You think you know what you’re in for? Trust me you don’t.
This is the Lili St Germain I love. Verona Blood is really hard to put down. Getting the characters pasts gave me a good insight into who they are. There’s some twists thrown in, plenty of action, betrayal, suspense, a man I’m pretty sure I’m not supposed to like as much as I do but something about him intrigues me and has me needing to know more about him and an old face that makes an appearance. This book has left me desperate to know what’s going to happen next and I’m already waiting impatiently for more from Rome and Avery
Oh my goodness, Verona Blood is a sensational read and will take you on one heck of a crazy journey. It’s brutal, it’s suspenseful and fantastically intriguing. I couldn’t put it down.
Avery is such a contradiction but I admire her strength and resilience and I love her dry wit. She’s forthright in her opinions, whilst still recognising a deep need to be loyal to her father and the Capulet name. I couldn’t help but feel some empathy for her, even though I haven’t yet decided whether I like her or not! On the surface, Rome Montague is as merciless as any of the characters you’ll find within these pages but there’s more to him than meets the eye. Both products of their upbringing and circumstances, I can’t wait to see how their story develops. If anyone can get me to change my mind about a character, good or bad, and have me holding out hope when there appears to be none, it’s this author.
Shocking at times, I loved the twists and turns. The no holds barred way this author writes about dark and savage characters is exceptional. At the end of this book, I’m left with so many questions. Who is the bloodthirsty manipulator, the vicious puppeteer who has turned his prisoners into his unwilling puppets? What are his motives and will his twisted plans succeed? I’m so excited, I can’t wait for book 2.
Verona Blood wasn’t what I was expecting at all. I love when an author throws curveballs/wrenches into my expectations, it makes for a much more enjoyable reading experience.
I will admit that I didn’t love everything that went down in this book but man what a riveting story it was. My eyes were practically glued to the pages. I devoured it in about three hours and have absolutely no regrets of reading it that quickly or ignoring everything and everyone around. I just couldn’t wait to find out what happened next, I’m still going to be waiting since it ended on a cliffy. I am so ready for the second book in this series. I hope the wait isn’t too long because I might not survive it.
I definitely recommend it to all lovers of dark romance.

Holy moly. Lili St. Germain certainly grabbed my attention. Verona Blood is what she does best: write about anti-heroes and heroines that don’t deserve my affection. And yet they manage to find their way into my heart despite me knowing better. This is one twisted, crazy-arse story filled with the kind of mayhem I crave. A feisty Avery Capulet as the lone-surviving offspring of a powerful underworld family pushes herself through life with a certain laissez-faire attitude, yet always staying loyal to her family name. And now as her 25th birthday approaches, her determined father strikes the most devious of deals, and we get to watch as everything so carefully planned is seemingly destroyed as madness takes over.
Oh My Goodness. I am still gobsmacked at the way this story unfolded. It’s fast-paced and I didn’t know and still don’t know whether I want to throttle Avery or not. She’s at the very core of this adventure and her actions say one thing as her words and her heart say another. I’m as confused as she is and yet I have to give her props for knowing she is a Capulet in every sense of the word and maintaining that blind loyalty even when it costs her true love. It’s what she knows and no one can blame her for that.
And that’s where the brilliance of St. Germain’s writing makes me stand up and take notice. I don’t want to root for Avery but the moments she has with Will, and then with Rome as her world is turned upside down by one truly twisted deviant has me wanting her to fight back and find a way out of her dire situation.
Rome Montague is the true surprise in Avery’s life, both past and present, and I am totally drawn to this bad boy much like she still seems to be. He’s gruff and pissed off at the world but he hasn’t forgotten a long lost teenage romance and he may just be the only key to Avery’s survival.
This book is one helluva page-turner. There is a huge array of detestable characters and it is anyone’s guess just how they all will fit into the rest of this saga. In fact, no one here is particularly likable but I’m drawn to each and every one of them and cannot wait for more!
5 OMG Stars!!!
“But I paid attention to Avery Capulet, and she paid attention to me. And something about the fact that we were forbidden only made me what her more.”
There are several things that make me jump for a book. Not a whole lot but there are several. First there is the Beauty and the Beast theme, second is marriage arrangements and then they fall in love tropes (theme?), and finally there is the Romeo & Juliet (well any Shakespeare theme) story lines. It’s probably because those are my all time favorite stories. I will always give the books that take those story lines, and make them their own, a chance.
“Love makes you weak..Hate keeps you strong.”
I really enjoyed this take on Shakespeare’s story. Not only does it spoof that but it has a mafia feel, dark romance, and suspense aspect to it. Talk about catnip for a reader like me. Stories that push you to your comfort level, maybe push you past that some, and make you question whether you are actually sane, yeah those will always be my kinda books. I have a feeling this series will fall into those categories. Verona Blood is dark and scandalous. It’s turbulent is some parts, end of your seat in others, and very very clever throughout all of it. I can not wait to see what is next for this series.
Oh and for those that love to know this sort of thing…Rome is mine. DIBS 😉
“Love isn’t always a happy thing. Sometimes it’s a dirty habit, a vice that makes you miserable with need. A desperate addiction that threatens to kill you in every moment that you spend apart. There’s no happiness in love when you know it has an expiration
Oooooh!!! This book sang to my little dark side. The side that needs a fix of wickedness, where I rub my hands together and maniacally grin like a madman inside.
This series is gonna be my seductive guilty pleasure. It’s already under my skin leaving me craving more.
Lili St Germain always delivers the most Shady Ass Fuxxers in her stories. You just can’t help being drawn to them. They’re not good men they’re violent, greedy and devious but we want them regardless.
This book held me captivated from the beginning its brutal full of suspense, secrets and surprises.
The criminal underground of San Francisco is a dangerous place to be. Just who can you trust?
A war has broken out and I can’t wait to see who’s left standing. I’ve a feeling I’m going to be surprised.
Yes this book was worth the wait. I’m excited for more because DAMN that ending has left me dangling on a knife edge. Seriously…WTF!!!
