But in a town as weird as Wormwood, a motive for murder is only one dark secret away.

Another great paranormal cozy mystery. Hazel is becoming more proficient at being a detective. It might even rub off on her investigative journalism. Unpredictable story. Plenty of red herrings and wild geese. More visits from friends in other series. I enjoyed it and hope that you do as well.
I received a copy of this book as a gift. This is my honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. I love the characters. In this book there is another murder! The local fortune teller also the towns main blackmailer turns up dead in the woods! Of course Hazel is the one to find her and to solve the case. Hazel has her witch trials and after starts to learn more about herself! Jesse Heathen has some answers but just as her Aunt Linda is about to tell her what exciting news she’s found out about Hazel she finds herself arrested! There was plenty of action in this book and it’s interesting to see Hazel learn so many new things! I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series! I highly recommend this book and this series! It always has plenty of surprises and action.
From page one, I’m fully immersed in this unusual English village. The characters are wonderful, the mysteries are magical and who doesn’t love a talking cat. A great series, and one that I’ll be sticking with.
fun, cozy witchy enjoyable read with twists and turns. Hazel, her snarky familiar, her crazy aunts all combine to make a truly enjoyable read. can hardly wait to read more of this series. i was given a free ARC by the author . my review is freely and honestly given
The last thing that Hazel thought she would encounter on her trek through the woods was a cauldron, a coin, a corpse, and him. The him being Jesse, the supposed mysterious detective that she hasn’t seen or heard from in weeks. Hazel doesn’t trust Jesse and finds it interesting that she would discover him over a dead body. If that isn’t enough, Hazel finds herself as part of the coven in a position of power. How did she get herself into this mess?
As Hazel delves further into the mystery, she soon discovers a few witchy powers that she didn’t know she had. Those powers even seem to baffle her aunts who appear to be hiding things once again from Hazel. Will they finally share the truth with Hazel and help her become the witch she is meant to be?
There are lots of madcap adventure, mystery, and even some intrigue in this latest book in the series. Of course, you also have the witty banter between Hazel and her familiar Hemlock (gotta love that cat!) and will finally learn more about the mysterious Hedge.
The town of Wormwood is a very different place. It gives the feel of being back in time, a long time ago. The mayor is crooked, no surprise there. The coven has both good and horrible witches, and some who seem nice but are really not. Hazel and her aunts are starting to become a family. Her aunts are trying to protect Hazel, but will not tell her what from. While Hazel tries to find out more about her background and magical abilities, she seems to hit walls everywhere she looks. The plot of this book was solid and very interesting. It held my interest throughout. Ms. Loren writes great books.
So many suspects in this spooky little town Hazel calls her witchy home!

Format: Kindle Edition
A good, rollicking murder mystery with lots of suspects and further development of the series heroine’s magical mystery tour to her full supernatural gift. Heroine Hazel is picking up steam in her discovery of the magic within her and really getting into the groove of life in witchy Wormwood. Her familiar Hedge is catty, as in full of barbs and wisecracking, and a great comic relief as is her zany aunt Linda. The antipathies and conflicts in the town’s magic community make this series as you never know which witch is ready to proverbially stab his or her neighbor in the back! I would have rated it higher but the vague hints to a larger mystery involving Hazel, Wormwood’s mayor and Jesse left me still in the dark and the story ends on an unfinished note despite the wrap-up of the murder investigation.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Hazel takes an innocent walk through the forest and finds a dead body, a silver coin, and a cauldron, also Jesse Heathen hanging around. Now she’ll have to find the killer to clear herself. Things were starting to get better in Wormwood other than the occasional dead body. Now Hazel is finally beginning to feel the tingles of being a witch; however, nothing seems to work correctly. Then her aunts tell her she going to be tested and if she doesn’t pass, it’s over. No second chances.
This is the second book in the series and it’s fantastic. There’s great growth in the characters and a great story line. I can’t wait until the next book!
Hazel Salem is a witch – well sort of, since she falls very short of having any magical powers. Being a descendant of a long line of witches, Hazel is very discouraged that she didn’t pay more attention to her Mother’s spell book, especially since her Mother was the head witch of a coven. As Hazel is taking a walk in the Wormwood Forest thinking about her lack of magical abilities, she stumbles across the body of Wormwoods most notorious fortune teller, who also happens to be a blackmailer. As Hazel investigates on her own, she finds more than a few nefarious characters that could be the murderer. This second book of the series is full of surprises for Hazel and will be for you too. I received a copy of this book for my honest review.
Another incredible story for Hazel!
A new murder to be solved and new power for the new witch Hazel…
What will be happened? Mystery and fun in a plot full of surprises…
I’m looking forward to the next book.
I recommend this book to all that love mystery and witch story!
Hazel must find a killer and her own witch ability. Hazel shares her home with her two aunts who are supposed to help her learn how to be a witch. She never believed she was witch until recently. Now she was trying to catch up on all the things she should she have learned when she was younger. Meanwhile, the local psychic, who also happened to be a witch was killed. The mystery is who would kill her and why. Hazel investigates the mystery. She discovers secrets of the witches and undergoes a major change of her own. Hazel learns she has more ability than she thought. This new ability gets her out of some dangerous situations. With her questioning mind, can she put the puzzle pieces together? What will she discover? Read for a good adventure. Can’t wait for the next book. This is my honest, voluntary review of an advanced reader copy of this book.
Hemlock is my hero such a precocious cat! Our favorite witch is on the case again with another murder in good old Wormwood. Hazel after doing so research has found all kinds of things and it is just the tip of the iceberg. This one has some wild twists, unexpected moments and then add in a cat or two are something else and you will spend your day smiling or outright laughing as you read this piece. It is not fun and games there some super serious parts too. Ruby has another winner on her hands it really is a must read!! I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
This is only the 2nd book of the series but it really ramps up the excitement! Love the characters and all of the changing relationships. Really like the romance going like a slow burn. There’s plenty of other action to keep you interested and guessing. Really good cozy paranormal mystery.
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Book 2 in a new series!
So much going on in this book! Hazel trips over another body, but so does someone else. Is he the killer? It certainly isn’t Hazel! I just love snarky Hemlock! This is a really fun series with Hazel just coming into her magic, various supernatural beings, and all the black cats! Looking forward to the next book!
I received an ARC. This is my honest review.
Hazel is trying to come to terms with her relations in the town of Wormwood and the surrounding area. A new relationship with the local coven, and more info from her aunts – at least info of a sort – give Hazel ideas about additional things she needs to know, and skills she only needs to find within.
Fans of the January Chevalier series might notice some familiar terrain, and maybe even a familiar face or two, if briefly.
For Hazel, working her way through her witch trial, and trying to figure out how her magic works, what her relationship is to those around her, and if those around her are acting in her interest while they are holding back information from her.
Even her familiar, and his feline friend seem to have some ulterior motives and projects going on, and do not seem as focused on supporting and enhancing her skill set as they might be.
The Witches Council seems a very vague entity so far, and not necessarily a helpful or guiding group.
If she can manage to survive and not destroy the fabric of this realm, things could continue to get very interesting for and with Hazel.
I enjoyed reading this book in advance copy and on Kindle Unlimited.
Vervain and a Victim
Hazel comes from a family of witches and didn’t believe she would be one. But it turns out she was a bit of a late bloomer and is poised to become a very powerful witch. I really love this series filled with interesting characters, an intriguing setting and is full of surprises. I highly recommend and can’t wait for more!
What a great story. I love how the Wormwood Witches are evolving, and Hazel is definitely one of my favourite characters in the series. There was a surprise cameo by another favourite, but you won’t get any hints from me. You’ll have to read the book.
Hemlock is staying true to his sarcastic nature, and isn’t the greatest familiar lol.
Hazel finds out that vampires really do exist, as well as other supernatural beings.
Loved the story, and look forward to the next book in the series.
This author never disappoints! Each book in this series has been a bit more intense than the one before. The writing is very skillful. While some threads weave from book to book, the primary mystery is solved within each volume. Highly recommended! I received this book free and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.
Cozy Killers and Strange Goings On
This episode of The Witches of Wormwood has all sorts of paranormal creatures popping into play. There are many things revealed about all of the characters in the book! I love the snarky edge. My favorite line is when Hemlock tells Hazel, ‘Don’t hate me because you ain’t me.” He can be such a teenager! There is a slight cross-over with some of the January Chevalier characters which work out perfectly with this story. I love the direction that this series is taking and can’t wait for the next episode! I received this book for free and this is my honest review.
Hazel is out walking in the forest and sees Jesse standing over a body. There is also a cauldron, and a coin. They argue on who killed the lady and then call the police. They are both taken to be questioned. Lots of twist and turns and on the edge of your seat reading. So if you enjoy reading a good mystery this is one you need to read. (I just love the cat. The cat and Hazel are always arguing with each other.)
