In this #1 New York Times bestseller, FBI Agent Pendergast reluctantly teams up with a new partner to investigate a rash of Miami Beach murders . . . only to uncover a deadly conspiracy that spans decades. After an overhaul of leadership at the FBI’s New York field office, A. X. L. Pendergast is abruptly forced to accept an unthinkable condition of continued employment: the famously rogue agent … continued employment: the famously rogue agent must now work with a partner.
Pendergast and his new colleague, junior agent Coldmoon, are assigned to investigate a rash of killings in Miami Beach, where a bloodthirsty psychopath is cutting out the hearts of his victims and leaving them with cryptic handwritten letters at local gravestones. The graves are unconnected save in one bizarre way: all belong to women who committed suicide.
But the seeming lack of connection between the old suicides and the new murders is soon the least of Pendergast’s worries. Because as he digs deeper, he realizes the brutal new crimes may be just the tip of the iceberg: a conspiracy of death that reaches back decades.

Another Pendergast story … as usual, excellent.
Special Agent Pendergast works with Coldmoon and Pickett to solve and catch a serial killer. The story keeps going in different directions and is long and drawn out and made it hard to follow what was really going on.
I’m a big fan of the Preston & Child Pendergast series and this latest instalment was typically enthralling. A gripping story, another great character (in Coldmoon), while the Miami Beach setting for Pendergast was hugely enjoyable.
My favorite authors and character!!
The authors use the same main character. However, with a twist because there is no long time enemy and no historical references, which have always been the highlight of their previous novels.
These are two of my fav authors and I love Pendergast!!!! Always cool and common sense guy
As always, FBI Pendergast is a wonderfully vomplex character and Preston and Childs nrver dissapoint. A great read!
Love the Pendergast mystery novels by Preston and Child. The main character,Pendergast, is a very unique character on the order of Sherlock Homes but modern and funny. The mysteries are always engrossing and the other characters are all well drawn too.
Interesting twist with Pendergast taking on a FBI partner. Story was a little slow going without the twists and turns typical of this unusual character.
Agent Pendergast does it again. His journey captured me from page 1 and left me wanting the net book as I finished this one.
I missed the absence of the support characters. It was less than exciting except towards the end.
I love the character Agent Pendergast.
I have read all their Agent Pendergast books and have loved them all
