Resonance. It’s a given on the ice planet, forced upon you by the parasitic symbiont called the ‘khui’. With resonance, a guy and a girl are paired up because they’ll make great babies. It’s a survival mechanism necessary for this sparsely-populated world we’re stranded on…and romantic, in a weird, alien way. Everyone expects resonance to happen when twenty newcomers are dropped onto the frosty … onto the frosty world. I doubt anyone expects the gorgeous, golden god named Ashtar to resonate to someone like me, though. He’s fierce. Flirty. Powerful. Disgustingly handsome.
I’m…not any of those things. I’m bland. Boring. Clumsy.
But resonance seems to think we’d be great together. And Ashtar does, too…

The Icehome series features all of the adventure, humor and community you’ve come to expect in the Ice Planet Barbarians series, but it stands on its own. You do not need to read the other series (or be caught up) in order to read VERONICA’S DRAGON. I do recommend reading LAUREN’S BARBARIAN to get the full experience. Enjoy!

Seriously think I’m going to develop a blue alien fetish and never be able to sate it. Well not unless I can convince my boyfriend to do something like that for me lol.
Ashtar was stolen by aliens when he was a young boy. His is a dragoni but he can’t fly because one of his masters clipped his wings to make him a gladiator. Now he finds himself and others stranded on an ice planet with aliens from all across the universe. Veronica is a klutz with a heart of gold and now she finds herself a mate of a dragon shifter. She also finds that she is given a gift.
A fine story, but one that made me impatient. I’m not sure why I was impatient. I think it just didn’t grab me as other Ruby Dixon novels have grabbed me. Not sure how to interpret that. I enjoyed the characters. Excellent story development. Great continuity. So what was the problem?
I think it’s because I’m reading it in a cold house. I can’t seem to keep warm, and this book made me feel even colder.
Don’t let that keep you from reading this book. All I need to say is that make sure you’re warm when you do. Dixon writes so well that you can feel the cold winds of Icehome going through your bones. I guess that means she’s an excellent writer.
I think this one was better than the first Icehome book! I freaking love Ashtar and Veronica! This was a great read and an excellent addition to the Ice Planet!
I really liked this story. The characters were great. I would totally keep Ashtar!
Veronica is one of twenty newcomers that were found in a ship on the ice world. All of the newcomers were told about the khui and what it does, including resonance. Resonance is when the khui picks the best mate to propagate the species. Everyone expects resonance to happen with all of the newcomers. The gorgeous, golden god named Ashtar is flirty, fierce and powerful. Veronica is sure there is no way that Ashtar will resonate with someone like her. She is nothing like Ashtar, she’s boring, clumsy, average. But then Veronica resonates and Ashtar does too, now they have to figure out how to be together.
Ashtar was amazingly confident and was such a perfect match for Veronica. It was so awesome that Ashtar was interested in Veronica even before the khui. I loved the way he wanted to take care of her and protect her. Their happy ever after made me happy. I definitely recommend reading or listening to this book! I read it through Kindle Unlimited and listened through Audible Escape.
Yup, this series is still –
Ruby has really perfected this wonderfully creative world to absolute superbness. I know that I am always singing her praises but she juggles so many characters across this intertwined series that I am always left baffled by her talent. You can’t tell me that it’s not impressive! Now she brought a little Fireblood to the mix with Ashtar. *sighs dreamily*
Don’t fret if you haven’t dabbled into the Fireblood series, Ashtar may be a Drakoni but he definitely isn’t wrapped up in the happenings of his home planet. He was taken as a slave when he was young and forced to be a warrior – just like the other males that have been introduced previously. So when he discovers that he is free and able to claim a mate, that becomes his number one goal. And yes, hilarity ensues…
And while I thought that Ashtar would be my favorite part of this story, it actually turned out to be Veronica. She is a clumsy, ordinary human that feels to be a bit of outsider. She couldn’t understand why the golden hunk was trying so hard for her attention. Her character, for me, was just very relatable. I love how she really came into her calling after she received her khui – and how protective Ashtar is about her ability.
Like I said, this series is just absolutely brilliant. I can’t wait to see what Ruby comes up with next!
5 stars!
Blog
First, I don’t think these are stand-alone books in the series. I also think you need to read at least book 1 and 2 from IPB to get the gist of things here. I read books 1-4 in IPB, but I still feel I missed a lot going into this series. I started this series thinking it would be stand-alone, since I hadn’t read all of IPB.
So far (I’m reading book #5 currently), this is my favorite of the “Icehome” series. I really enjoyed the interactions with Veronica & Ashtar. Ashtar was a great character, he really made the book. But, I also love dragons! I also liked the humor in this book. But I think I like the author’s Dragon series better than the IPB series at this point. Being that Ashtar is a cross-over from the Fireblood Dragon series, might be a small part of why I like him. I would re-read this book, I enjoyed it that much.
Love this book so much!
I listened to the audible version of the story and I absolutely loved it. Paranormal reads are my favorite and this author does not disappoint. I enjoyed the characters and the storyline, and this story has the right amount of steamy scenes and laugh out loud moments. Veronica is human and Ashtar is a dragon that has been a gladiator slave for as long as he can remember. When he finds himself in a new place and surrounded by new people, the one thing he can’t deny is his draw to and possessive protection towards Veronica even though he’s slow to trust everyone else. Their story is one that readers won’t want to miss. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
Sweet story
It was cool to see a character (species) from another book in this story. I enjoyed reading it and couldn’t put it down.
Ahhhh I just love escaping into Ruby Dixon’s books. There is just something about the books she writes that sweep me out of my life completely. Without a doubt, she is now an author I turn to when my life gets a bit too overwhelming, because I can always trust that I will lose myself in a completely different world.
I loved how in this book both the hero and heroine were outside of their comfort zones. They had both been awaken on this brand new alien planet where nothing was familiar. It led to some deliciously, endearing awkward moments that added a touch of realism toward the development of their relationship. I mean you know they are going to end up together because the khui determines all. But watching the slowburn as they adjust to the planet and each other was incredibly satisfying.
For adults due to sexual content.
Veronica was abducted by aliens and then the ship crashed on a planted made of ice and snow. As Veronica wakes up, she sees not only humans, but other aliens, blue ones who seem to want to help and a big, naked gold one who seems to be staring at her.
I like the blue guys. I know there are several of these blue barbarian books, so I like that they can be read as a stand alone. I like the originality of needing a “cootie” to survive in the Ice planet.
I loved this book. The story flows smoothly and is easy to read, the characters are all easy to understand, their emotions are realistic and honest. I loved the instant attraction between Veronica and her Dragon Ash. I loved that he had to work for it and yet the story still didn’t drag. I’m looking for the next one now!
I have read every word that Ms. Dixon has published on Amazon and enjoyed them all. By far my favorite is Veronica’s Dragon it was unique in a world of unique book. The word love is not strong enough to describe my feelings for this book. It has become the standard by which i judge all the books in this genre.
Love all of the ice planet barbarians.
Loved it!
Re-definiing ‘home’
Veronica’s Dragon is Ruby Dixon’s second book in her spin-off IceHome series, and as expected she does a fabulous job with backstory, with integrating her new aliens and humans into the Ice Planet Barbarian world. Familiar characters make cameo appearances and ground the new couple in their new world and its ways. Veronica is a smart and empathic human woman, and when she gets her khui symbiont, she’s given a bonus. She resonates to Ashtar, a golden alien gladiator/slave, and she’s given the gift of healing! First by accident, then purposefully, she heals members of the new tribe and the old. Everyone’s ecstatic, but Ashtar, whose life in slavery and the arena tells him no one can be trusted and friendship is dangerous. In fear and jealousy, he snatches Veronica away from the tribe. Now she REALLY has a healing job to do! It’s a good story, a steamy romance with HEA, and humor. Enjoy!
Nnnooooooooo, this is what I say every single time I finish an Ice Planet or Icehome book. I never want to quit reading them, I never want them to end. Since, I am pretty sure all Ruby Dixon fans are a part of this cult following, I have to thank her for not only writing these wonderful books, but putting up with all of her overly “excited” fans. She deserves props for that alone, because I know for sure she has some serious fans…you know, besides me.
I also want to say…I want a dragon of my own too *stomps foot*. Who doesn’t want to be treated like a spun glass princess, especially a princess that is extremely klutzy. Ashtar is a great combination of arrogant, but so endearing. I love his arrogant confidence, and that he is willing to, uh “negotiate” with his mate. They are really relationship goals, they are really in sync from the first time they see each other. Ashtar was a gladiator slave that was stolen from his home when he was little, 8 I believe, he has seen and done some very intense things, but he still manages to be so amusing in his actions. I’m not sure another character could have pulled off his personality and still have readers adore him, but that’s exactly what happened here. I adored both of these two.
This was definitely one of the funniest books of either series, between Ashtar and the other new guys that were saved too….*shake my head*. There was a conversation that Vektal had with all the new guys about mating, funniest thing I have ever read . The whole book was like that, all my highlights have, lmao or ha, ha on them, because it was just that funny.
It was a fun and safe read, with an arrogant and endearing dragon virgin. An adorable and klutzy healer that saves the day quite a few times. A great storyline that goes along with Lauren’s book. My only comment is the same that I always have after I read this series, next book please. Thank you Ruby Dixon for writing in this wonderful world and tolerating your cult following.
