From Rob Thomas, the creator of the television series and movie phenomenon Veronica Mars, comes the first book in a thrilling mystery series that picks up where the feature film left off. Ten years after graduating from high school in Neptune, California, Veronica Mars is back in the land of sun, sand, crime, and corruption. She’s traded in her law degree for her old private investigating … investigating license, struggling to keep Mars Investigations afloat on the scant cash earned by catching cheating spouses until she can score her first big case.
Now it’s spring break, and college students descend on Neptune, transforming the beaches and boardwalks into a frenzied, week-long rave. When a girl disappears from a party, Veronica is called in to investigate. But this is no simple missing person’s case; the house the girl vanished from belongs to a man with serious criminal ties, and soon Veronica is plunged into a dangerous underworld of drugs and organized crime. And when a major break in the investigation has a shocking connection to Veronica’s past, the case hits closer to home than she ever imagined.
In Veronica Mars, Rob Thomas has created a groundbreaking female detective who’s part Phillip Marlowe, part Nancy Drew, and all snark. With its sharp plot and clever twists, The Thousand-Dollar Tan Line will keep you guessing until the very last page.

Hits me right in the nostalgia bone. A solid mystery. If you like the show, get the audiobook narrated by Kristen Bell.
Meshes incredibly well with the series–I could envision everything perfectly, must read for VM fans.
(4.5 / 5)
Picking up soon after the Veronica Mars movie, which in turn is set about 10 years after the same-name television show, we have a brand new, stand-alone mystery. During Spring Break in Neptune, two young women go missing from the same house, on different nights. Veronica is hired to look for them, but she doesn’t expect to be confronted …
I remember that I got this audiobook on a whim during a sale, and I’m so glad I did. It was like being back in the Veronica Mars universe without having to invest in sitting through another season on the TV. (FWIW, I haven’t seen the newest season on Hulu.) Kristen Bell did a fantastic job as narrator on this book, and I was suitably surprised by …
Great book to read. The author perfectly captured the uniqueness of Veronica who we know from tv. I recommended this book to friends.
If you are/we’re a fan of the series, you’ll enjoy this book. Nice quick read, perfect for the beach
the first i have read in this series and i am in love!! head over heels. amazing!!
I loved the series on tv and the books pick up where the series left off
sorry I didn’t care for it. A bit too Nancy Drew. Maybe if I was 16.
Just as good as the show! And Kristen Bell narrates the audio.
So good! I’m a huge Veronica fan but I’m always leery of books that come from characters I learned to love on t.v. BUT this book is amazing. All my favorite characters are there and I could even hear their voices in my head. The mystery is great and I could feel my heart racing a little as I got to the climax of the story.
I was a big fan of the television show Veronica Mars, and I enjoyed the movie, as I recall. It’s been a while since I’ve seen it, but I think I enjoyed it. I like Kristen Bell in pretty much everything I’ve seen her in. In any case, Veronica Mars is a character I’ve always loved and, even if you weren’t a fan of the show, I think you might enjoy …
Set a couple of months after the movie ends, Veronica is hired to find a college student who vanished from a party during spring break. With the tourist industry in town losing money, can Veronica find this girl?
The plot was worth of the franchise with some great twists and turns. The characters were also true to themselves, and I loved …
I love the Veronica Mars tv show and the movie. This book is fun, and definitely written in the same voice, but one thing was missing: Logan. Logan is a super minor character, which is really too bad. Part of what I love about Veronica is her banter with Logan. Other than that, I really liked the book. Quick, fun, easy read.
