A madman. A sex cult. And world-changing genetic magick.VERITY STRANGE—Hedge Witch, Youngest Daughter of the Strange FamilySeeing the future isn’t all it’s cracked up to be—especially when you can’t change it. Even more so when your Talent nearly kills you. I’ve searched the world for a guru—a magickal monk—who could help me tame my divination powers, but most were frauds or worse. Being young … were frauds or worse. Being young and female is precarious when you’re consorting with powerful adepts. But then I met Eliphas Storm, and everything changed…
WYLDE BANE—FBI Analyst, Cult Expert
Eliphas Storm is like any other cult leader. Never mind that he’s gathered millions of followers to his sex-magick-enhancing temples. Never mind that he’s likely the madman behind these Talent-destroying drugs. He’s all about the power to control people—people like the beautiful and naive Verity Strange—and I’m determined to take him down. I grew up in a cult, and I know just how much he could damage a woman like her. But going undercover with an uncooperative asset is a good way to get me killed. And stepping back into the world I left is dangerous in a whole different way…
Wylde is intent on bringing down a charismatic cult leader. Verity is bent on proving his innocence and seducing her way into his inner circle. Together, they have to stop whoever is making the Talent-destroying drugs threatening Chicago’s magickal populace.
Verity Strange is the third book in the paranormal romantic suspense series Legal Magick. The series follows the three Strange sisters, each powerful witches in an influential magickal family embroiled in a mysterious plot to change everything about the magickal world. Legal Magick takes place in an alternate Chicago where High Magick returned in 1859 and is now integral in every aspect of the legal—and illegal—world. Each book is a standalone romance.

HOLY MAGICK! Wow! What a fabulous talent Ms. Woods has. Not only is she blessed with a brilliant imagination, but also an extraordinary talent to be able to spin a tale from said imagination, that will have your head spinning with all the possibilities. The Legal Magick series is absolutely brilliant. Even though each book is a standalone, I would definitely recommend that you read them in order to obtain the “whole spectrum” of the story, as they do somewhat intertwine, with each of the two first episodes ending in a bit of a cliff hanger. I can guarantee, that if you are looking for the unusual, something that will keep you on your toes, full of suspense, heat, intrigue and of course lots of hot sex and many HEA’s, this series is for you!
In this, the third and what is believed, final episode, we follow Verity Strange, as she falls deeper and deeper into the heart of what is believed a sex cult, headed by the infamous Eliphas Storm. After her sister Mercy had “called him out” at a previous function, Verity is recruited by the FBI to infiltrate his newly constructed temple, hoping to find evidence of his involvement in the illegal drugs being administered to the population. A couple of glitches, firstly, she will have a “fiance” as part of her cover, and secondly, she doesn’t believe he is guilty. Oh! What will the future bring to these two unsuspecting people?
Be prepared! Once you start, you will have a difficult time setting this book down until you’ve reached the end.
I was gifted a copy of this book, and am voluntarily giving my honest opinion.
This is the third and last book in the Legal Magick Series, a great paranormal romantic suspense. The story continues with Verity Strange story. Verity and Wylde are great characters, and I love their chemistry. They work great together. Verity is the youngest daughter of the Strange Family, and a hedge Witch. Wylde is an FBI Analyst at Cult Expert. This story is action packed and suspenseful. This is a great conclusion to this amazing Series. Lauren Sweet and Christopher Kipiniak did a great job with the narration. This is a great team author/narrators. I truly enjoyed listening this story/Series.
Verity is the youngest of the three Strange sisters and maybe the most powerful with her unique magick. She has been studying under the FBI’s most wanted Eliphas Storm in hopes to control her powers and believes he is innocent. Wylde Bane is an FBI analyst and a cult expert and he goes under cover with Verity to keep her safe, prove to her that the monk is deceptive and ruthless and to stop the mad man from unleashing his diabolical scheme. This was fast paced and high heat with a very satisfying conclusion. I enjoyed this series and the characters immensely. The author created a unique world and wonderful characters. An excellent read. I volunteered to read this book.
Verity Strange is book three in the Legal Magick series and the concluding piece. I do not suggest reading these books out of order as they really are meant to be one contiguous story. Each book is about a different sister and her partner in this story, but they are one big story.
Verity was not what I expected. I think that should be said first. Ever and Mercy were both very serious and dark (understandably when you realize how dangerous they are) but Verity always came across as very light and playful. Turns out, she’s that way because she’s mostly in her head and not for light and breezy reasons. I ended up liking her a lot more than I expected I would. Her character was just as deep and relatable as her sisters when it came down to it.
Wylde was another interesting character, though I can’t say he was the surprise Verity was. All of our male protagonists have had dark and somewhat twisted pasts for sure, and Wylde fit that profile. His fit perfectly (by design) with the theme of this book, so it worked well. But man did my poor heart ache for him. I think what I liked best about him was how easily he managed to play of the naive and innocent ‘young’ man to pretty much everyone.
As stated before, this book is the conclusion of the Strange trilogy and the big finale where we learn the origin, purpose, and how of the med-magic drugs that we have been chasing for three books. Everything has led us to Eliphas Storm and his sex cult; and boy let me tell you, that man is appropriately disturbing. Anyhow, no spoilers, just suffice to say that the book has some magic action, some soul searching, a sweet romance, a heaping dose of steaminess, and a whole lot of crazy cultists. Also some appearances from characters from the last two books. Yay for more Zane!
If you haven’t read Ever Strange, you really need to pick it up and start there. If you like magic, characters with checkered/tormented pasts, romance, steamy fun, and a good crime case, this series is definitely for you.
Well worth reading!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this marvelous, paranormal mystery romance, it is the third book in the series “Legal Magicks” but can be read as a standalone. The story-line and plot is intriguing, well-thought out and written. The characters have complex personalities which occasionally results in verbal and/or physical confrontation & are inclined to be devious but at other times they entwine fairly well with each other.
There is: a misunderstand witch (Verity) with strange abilities, a FBI analyst & cult expert (Wylde Bane), FBI criminal Magick Department, crime syndicates, a monk involved in sex magic (Eliphas Storm), a special feline/cat, twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, danger, enemies, violence, conflict, threats, secrets, deceit, betrayal, deadly magic street drugs, undercover assignment, wild magic, verbal conflict, deceit, betrayal, spells, devious plans, manipulations, defiance, conflict, premonitions/visions, explanations, confrontations, memories, declarations, love, contentment, some steam & a well-earned happy ending. I would recommend this book (& the other books in this series) to people who enjoy reading this genre.
Wylde Protection
Man, this book is full of antics that can charge an incubus to the max and more. Sex cults and being able to see the past, present and the future may not be the best gifts to have if you want a normal life.
Verity been searching for a long time for help with her gifts but nothing has worked out
Meet Wylde he grew up in a cult and it shaped him into the FBI agent he is today out to stop the charlatans out harm people.
The story was fast past but filling so as to keep the reader fully engaged..
