“Louisa Lo has an exciting new voice to bring to urban fantasy and a fun and breezy writing style that kept the pages quickly turning well into the night! I need more!” ~Michelle Rowen, National Bestselling AuthorMegan is a typical university student trying to figure out her place in the world, except instead of hoping to pass the bar or get into med school, she’s studying to become a licensed … studying to become a licensed vengeance demon.
Nineteen-year-old Megan Aequitas is the only vengeance demon and trickster hybrid ever born. In a world where vengeance demons are respectable, rule-obsessed guardians of the Cosmic Balance, and tricksters are playful, happy-go-lucky perpetrators of chaos, being half and half is, well, tricky.
Determined to prove herself worthy of her vengeance blood, Megan enrolls in University of Demonic Studies’ prestigious co-op program. Wreaking karmic revenge on wrongdoers from cheaters to crooks sounds fun and simple, if it weren’t for the unsuspecting human roommate, Megan’s flamboyant trickster half-brothers, a changeling-raised fellow outcast, and a trio of evil wannabes. Then one assignment turns deadly when Megan discovers a plot to unleash an ancient force so authoritarian, most creatures would be deemed too unworthy to exist.
After a lifetime of being embarrassed by her trickster tendencies and striving to fit in vengeance society, Megan now has to learn to embrace both of her worlds if she wants to save them.

I was not to sure what to think when I started reading this story but I really ended up enjoying it. It was very quirky and fun. I have already bought the next book in the series.
When I first started reading this I wasn’t quite sure what to think of it. It was a little bizarre but a fun read. I ended up truly liking it in the end. This fantasy story was like Harry Potter meets Mean Girls. Megan is half Trickster and half vengeance demon and she’s struggling for acceptance in a world that looks down on half-breeds and especially on Tricksters. But the irony of her trying to bury her Trickster side is that her Trickster blood may be the key to saving the world. This is my first time reading this author and I was not disappointed.
I liked the idea of vengeance demons going around for payback for evil crimes. Megan’s spin of having the punishment fit the crime was clever. Megan seemed well meaning but the girl couldn’t seem to catch a break. Her trickster side and family were hilarious to read about.
This story is non-stop action, magic, and insanity. Megan’s father is a vengeance demon and her mother is a trickster, making Megan something others look down on. In reality, she is something special. I love this book and can’t wait to read more of Megan’s story. Will she find romance with the sexy vigilante demon? Will she win over the uptight counsel? What crazy pranks will her trickster brothers come up with next? And who are the secret villains Megan and her small crew will have to deal with next? This is a fantastic and fun story, with more twists than I could keep up with at times. I highly recommend it!
What a fantastic story. Admittedly, I was hesitant to read this book, as I’m am with most new authors, but I’m very glad I gave it a chance. The story is original and the world Mrs. Lo designed is intriguing. The main character is fun, witty and kind. I love how Megan doesn’t let the terrible way she’s been treated make her angry and bitter.
Megan’s creativity in how she exacted revenge for the innocent had me laughing out loud.
I loved going on this journey with her and can’t wait to find out what her next adventure will be.
Megan Aequitas is a vengeance demon but also a trickster hybrid. She is attending school and must complete her co-op program successfully if she is to continue with school.
Yet Megan seems to have many enemies and she needs to figure out who is out to sabotage her before it’s too late and she loses everything.
I liked the book but I almost felt like there was so much happening that I felt a little disconnected at times from the story.
I liked Megan and I was confused on why she was so hated by her grandma and how things went so wrong with Dan Pillars and how things went so wrong when she went to apprehend him. I was curious that her dad had no clue what was going on and I was confused on why he seemed to not acknowledge what was going on between Megan and her grandma.
I liked how hard Megan worked at making up for her mistakes and how Pete helped guide her with what she needed to do.
I felt bad at what was going on with both Enid and Megan and how they were being used but the end completely shocked me as I wasn’t expecting what happened after everything seemed to be good!
The end definitely leaves you wondering what is going to happen next!!
4.4 stars
This is not a typical read for me, although I am trying to expand my options. Megan is a half-breed – half vengeance (dad), half trickster (mom). She is going to University and then is sent out to do a mission. Things do not go as planned with that, and she looks to ask her family for help. This was not the best idea either as things seemed to just go from bad to worse. I enjoyed the book, and will read more in this series and by this author. My taste for paranormal/shifters was piqued with this book.
This is book 1 in the vengeance book series. I really enjoyed reading this book. I loved how fast paced it was and all the twist and turns. Megan is half vengeance demon half trickster. Her life hasn’t been easy. She gets her first assignment but can’t finish it. She goes to her family for help and gets all crazy. Great book.
Loved this book! It was different, it was entertaining, I loved the twists and turns. You didn’t know what was going to happen. Can’t wait to read the next book.
A fantastic, well-written, action-packed novel filled with terrific plot details and really great world-building. I’m so glad I took a chance on this new (to me) author as this book really captured my interest. I can’t wait to read the rest in the series!
A fun and quick read. This is nothing like I have ever read before and I thought it was good. Story line and characters were interesting and very easy to like (most of the characters that is). The tricksters were a funny group that will keep you entertained.
A different type of book than I normally read. It’s a strange mix of comedy, teen drama and magic. Megan was a sassy at times socially awkward university student. Most of the students and a large portion of the faculty don’t like her due to her hybrid status but that ends up being part of her saving grace. A quirky and entertaining book. I look forward to the next one.
Great… now I’m hooked on vengeance demon/trickster crossbreeds… This looked interesting, and I’ve been trying to throw in different books every couple of reads, this fit the bill. Megan’s dad is an Arch Vengeance demon and her mom is a trickster, leaving Megan to be the picked on and bullied crossbreed in the vengeance co-op.
Her first lone gig goes wrong, she goes to her family for help and things go downhill from there.
Figuring out who she can actually trust and who is against her is a big part of the journey. And even as Megan thinks she knows the truth, she doubts herself.
I’m looking forward to reading more books in this series.
This is kind of a weird book. Lots of lingo…I needed a dictionary for all of it lol! This is not my usual reading material but it ended up being a good book. If your into this kind of paranormal you will enjoy it.
Unique and exciting, I enjoyed the different paranormal story line that flows smoothly through this book. A halfbreed born to a vengeance demon and a trickster, Megan’s lot in life is not an easy one as she’s always treated as an outsider because of her mixed blood. She’s taught to rely on the logic of her vengeance side while tampering down her trickster magic as she struggles to pass university to become a full fledged vengeance demon. Disaster strikes and once again she’s blamed for her trickster blood. Kicked out of school for something she didn’t do, Megan’s road to redemption becomes rocky and fast paced as she finds out being half trickster might save the world. With a kick of humor from her trickster family members for a great story I couldn’t put down and I can’t wait for the next in the series. My review is based upon a review copy.
I originally purchased this book as part of the Name your Demon boxed set because I was struggling to find new Urban Fantasy/Paranormal books. I was surprised to see that otherwise, this book is only available for purchase through Kindle Unlimited, yet you can purchase the next books in the series individually on Kindle.
Louisa Lo does a good job of introducing a new spin on Demons and mythical/paranormal beings in their own unique world. The book has a young adult/teen type feel to it with a lack of romance and ease of reading. The new concepts and characters keep you on your toes; however it can be confusing to a new reader to her books. There were definitely times that my head was spinning from correlating the real world and Lo’s dimension. The humor is entertaining and helps convey the main character’s “trickster” heritage. I don’t think the book would be the same without it. There are quite a few twists and turns, enough to keep the story interesting, but overall, the characters and tie-ins from the demon world to the real world get a bit over the top to the point that I found myself skipping over those pieces to focus on the main plot. I agree with other readers that this story can be seen as “silly” and wish this book had been written to appeal to a higher age group.
