Trent and the fortune teller.
The McGovern clan in Venice and Trent would like a wicked assignation but he believes there is no hope for that. Then there was the mystery surrounding Asher. So the tale starts off with a suggested mystery and a nod to what fate may bring to Trent. Then there is the fortune teller! This regency with the tiny bit of the paranormal was so good. It is a quick read and I enjoyed every minute I spent reading. If you are looking for romance along with some danger and action this is the book to pick up I think you will be glad you did. Oh, I almost forgot it is a cliff hanger! I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
This seems to be a different style from what I had become used to from reading several of the previous books in this series. Although it’s interesting enough it doesn’t maintain the romance and family closeness/connection. My interest was peaked when the mystery first presented itself but at this point I think the mystery is dragging on too long and instead of running as an extra tidbit, the mystery/secrets of Asher seems to have consumed the plot which would be fine if this book was the conclusion to the mystery as the series progresses to the next romantic interest.
I was provided an advanced reader copy without obligation and I am voluntarily reviewing.
I am at a disadvantage with this series of books, since I’ve only read two so far, both as ARC’s, so I’m thinking I’ve lost something by not starting at the beginning.
My first thought on reading this is, if Asher has gotten himself into so much trouble, why in the world is he dragging his family along behind him? And my second was, I need to go back and read the series, because I think I’ve lost something along the way.
The book is definitely Merry Farmer. There’s plenty of steam, some verbiage that doesn’t quite fit with the time period, but I’ll forgive her because it doesn’t affect the story any. It is definitely a mystery, but the mystery seems to be lost amid the erotica and you don’t even think about the mystery while you’re reading until you (namely ME) are halfway through. Maybe my reaction to this book is different than others. I have to say that I did not go back and read the reviews previous to writing this one. If I do that, it spoils my thoughts on the book itself.
Yes, it is steamy, which I love. Yes, it has entertaining characters. The H and h are funny and fit perfectly into this book (and match up perfectly with the last book, which was also entertaining). My only worry is that there’s not enough mystery in the book to keep a reader’s interest.
I did read an ARC and this review is certainly written in my own words (as all of my reviews are – but be warned if I catch one more person plagiarizing a review, you will be sued, as I have very little patience for cheaters and thieves). I’m looking forward to the next story in the series. Perhaps then, I’ll feel like I’ve gotten myself caught up and I’ll feel differently about the lack of mystery.
Venice, Italy 1890 The Grand Tour of the McGovern’s continues…
This has been an entertaining series with different mysteries and romances evolving and this time it is Lord Trent and of all ladies, Charlotte, a half Romany, half English fortune teller. Have you ever wondered if a fortune teller and tell their own fortune?
But Trent was a little desperate. He knew something was going on with Asher, Duke of Addlebury and head of their family and he felt he had to find out soon.
Catching the eye of the fortune teller, he went to have his fortune told, but that the lady was beautiful. Charlotte felt a strong attraction to him too.
When she tells him of the danger the cards read that will surround him, it sets off a joining of these two to find out what is going on.
A steamy attraction and a transformation are all in the cards for Trent and Charlotte! Don’t miss it!
When Trent sees the fortune teller Charlotte he believes she would not be interested in him. After all women generally ignore him. When Charlotte reads his fortune and his aura she knows he is the one she has been waiting for. But how can a fortune teller and a future earl be together forever. As they work together to track down the dark lady and find out what Asher is hiding their relationship will be heart pounding in many ways. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
A girl, a guy and a jackal. I knew this story would hold something special for us and I was right. Trent is so hard on himself because he is not the perfect specimen of what he thinks is a man but Charlotte dispels him of that idea right away. I love how she says that his heart and compassion make him more beautiful that most. This is one of my favorite stories of Merry’s because of just this thing. It is not what is on the outside (not that he is unattractive) but it is what lies within and how we treat others. Trent and Charlotte work together to figure out why Asher is so mysterious and the mystery is coming to light. Some are more than what they appear to be…no more said about that. So who is the jackal and what is Asher trying to protect?
I received a complimentary copy from the author.

The Grand Tour of Europe with the McGovern family just keeps getting better in this the fifth instalment & sees them in Venice. The mystery still hasn’t been solved but there are plenty new clues & information. I loved Trent who feels because he is stocky that he’s not attractive to women but the lovely Charlotte knocks that totally on its head when she makes him realise & believe that true beauty comes from within. It was a case of love at first sight which isn’t my favourite trope but this time it worked as both of them seemed to have been waiting for each other. I read this engrossing book in a sitting & can’t wait for the continuing adventure in Rome
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Lord Trent McGovern is used to ladies merely tolerating his presence because of the lure of his wealth and title. But he’s a kind man and very loyal to his family, so when it becomes apparent that Asher, the Duke of Addlebury and head of the family, is in some sort of trouble, Trent is determined to find out what’s going on. That means enlisting some unconventional help in the form of the lovely fortune teller, Charlotte Salazar.
Charlotte is the illegitimate daughter of an English marquess and a Romani woman and as such, doesn’t quite fit in anywhere. Her intuition and ability to read people have given her a position among the people of Venice as a fortune teller. As soon as she sees Trent, Charlotte knows he’s her future, if she can convince him her heart is true, and if she can keep him safe from the danger she senses all around him and his family.
This was a fun, fast-paced read. Trent was adorable in his modesty and low self-esteem and it was nice to see him gain confidence once someone believed in him. I very much appreciated Charlotte’s devotion to Trent and the whirlwind nature of their romance kept me entertained as they worked together to figure out what Asher was up to. I look forward to the family’s continued saga.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The saga continues as we follow the family to their next destination. Trent is a really nice guy who has been looked over and therefore turned into himself. His self-esteem has suffered. The moment he sees Charlotte is described beautifully, the magic between them. I loved how his cousins recognized the change in Trent. His family loves and respects him but until his heart connects with Charlotte’s, he does not know his worth. An enchanting love.
