Gracie Cain is a healer. I’m Noah Jarvis, a cold-hearted killer. We had one night. The best night. Then she thought she could strut out my front door and my life, right after announcing she was my best friend’s baby sister.“Give me a memory, Noah.”That’s what she said … right after she rendered me stupid in the shadows at a wedding reception. I did everything I could to figure her out. She wore … to figure her out. She wore more veils of armor than I’ve seen in a lifetime. On the outside, she was strong and self-assured. But within those beautiful, guarded blues? She was laced with vulnerability and grief.
She got the memory she wanted, but in the process, I was left branded.
When she ran, I had no choice but to follow. Not only did I go after her, I chased her halfway around the world. Because when it comes to her, one memory isn’t enough. It doesn’t matter that there couldn’t be a more opposite pair than us.
But when my job came back to bite me in the ass, I wasn’t the only one caught in the crossfire. It bought us memories no one was counting on.
That’s when all the veils were ripped off.

Every time I think I have a favorite book in the series, I discover the next one. This is book 4 of the series. Sometimes a series is starting to lose it’s draw by this point. Not this one. I think each book gets better. Before this series, I hadn’t read a huge amount of romantic suspense. I’m not sure why. These books have a large amount of humor in them. That’s a plus with me.
Noah and Gracie are great together whether she wants them to be or not. She can’t shake him loose. That could be a good thing, or that could be a deadly thing. Also, the text messages from the wives are everything you didn’t know you needed.
I don’t know how I would ever pick which Killers book is my favorite because each new hero swoons me to pieces! I was intrigued about Noah Jarvis the second he was introduced to this series as a punk with a bad attitude. He came a long way and I wanted to know his story. He’s, as per usual by Brynne, an absolute alpha man who is hot hot hot and protective and strong and everything I love. Matching him with Gracie was perfect. She’s so sweet and tough herself, as well as with a touch of sass. Their story is full of action, steam, witty banter and humor, but woven through difficulties and them fighting for their love. And as always, I love getting to see the previous couples sprinkled in throughout!
I like that you get to see what Jarvis (Noah) went through before he came to work for Crew. I love how he is with Gracie. I love this series, I want more please.
You can not go wrong with this story
Loved the continuation of the series. And was looking forward to Jarvis’ story from book one and learning about all his broody cocky attitude-ness. He has lived a difficult life and has suffered great loss. Such is similar to say about Gracie who has suffered great injustices and loss at the hands of someone who should have been a protector and then to find out she has to suffer long term because of it. When they get together you never saw the train wreck that was coming f of her explaining she was gradys sister. She knew better and still got involved with one of his employees. What was supposed to be a one off turns into a one night stand of epic proportions with multiple sessions. Then a one nighter that just won’t quit despite her many attempts to drop him and make him go away. Jarvis or Noah won’t quit. Their relationship goes throw serious hardships and many ups and downs from kidnappings, vengeful mobsters, family secrets, layers of broken pain fro all the tragedies they have survived. But they make the most amazing couple for they always fight for one another. Loved this story. Ok kinda hoping there is a Carson and Donnelly story to come. You can just see how screwed up and page turning that will be.
You know those authors that you one click, go in blind, don’t need a blurb or even a cover – Brynne Asher is one of those authors for me. Stories like this are why.
Noah and Gracie’s story was everything I expected and more. Genuine delicious alpha hero, smart and accomplished heroine. A storyline packed with action and exactly the right amount of emotions. Add in rich supporting characters and the handling of tough subjects in a respectful and honest way and I give this one all the stars.
4.5 stars
I’ve always called Jarvis that in my head while reading this series. So it’s good to put a first name to him. Like the others Noah is pretty intense and extreme. This felt like watching an action movie with romance. I forgot about Grace’s story after the other books need to revist that. But boy she did not habe it easy at all. This was interesting since Noah didn’t know she was Grady’s younger sister. When that comes out it will be some macho stuff going on despite the friendship.
Regardless of that animosity between them right now Noah is all in for Grace. A one night stand gone to way more. Which is always a good scenario not always what happens of course. Those two are a mismatch but they work. Grace feels cherished and safe with Noah even if she didn’t know about his job before. It’s pretty cute their moments especially when the others was rooting for them. Noah does extremes to his feelings and everything that goes with loving Grace. There was a lot of trouble for Noah and lots of rescuing that was exciting.
There was a new name here Donnelly that intrigued me. She was a spice girl indeed and no nonsense and all kick butt. Noah and her interactions added some humor. Aside from the action there was family drama and well wouldn’t you know it apperances are not everything. It was nice seeing the others again they really work as a team even retired. Brynne Asher tells a good story that really sucks you in. I’m excited to see where this series goes next!
Wow!
Noah and Grace’s story is fantastic! They are both such great strong characters who are beautifully written by Brynne. The inclusion of older characters adds to the story as you feel you already have that connection to the story!!! It is also so well written that you could read this book as a stand alone and you wouldn’t feel lost!
I’ve enjoyed every book in this series and I can’t wait for the next instalment!
Noah Jarvis….Swoon!
I could not get enough of Gracie and Noah. They balanced each other out so well and their love was so genuine. It definitely was not easy, but it’s truer than true and will withstand anything.
Gracie reminds me so much of myself. When she cried, I cried. When she hurt, I hurt. In the end, I just wanted to see her happy.
Noah. OMG. Noah Jarvis. My new book boyfriend. I love how masculine and overbearing he was at times. Yet, he was also balanced by calmness and understanding. He is truly the perfect match for Gracie and I loved how their relationship blossomed.
I will be talking about this book and recommending it to friends for a long time!
Wow! This is my first book by Brynne Asher and I was blown away by it! “Give me a memory” sums up this amazing book and then some. Wanting to forget for a night, Gracie mets Noah and wants to make a memory to carry her through and be able to recall in the future. But once Noah spends time with Gracie and discovers who she is he wants more than just a memory, he wants it all!
Noah and Gracie are perfect together and have a chemistry that burns the pages! Their story has everything I love in a a story…chemistry, amazing characters with depth, angst, action and a story line that keeps the reader wanting more. I couldn’t put this book down.
I swear I say this every single time I read a Brynne Asher novel, but: the book was good and I was settled into a 4-star review…and then came the end. She does it to me every time! I’m lulled into a false sense of goodness and then bam! she makes it great. 4½ stars
Rating: 3 – 3.5 stars (rounded to 4 due to caring, alpha possessive/protective hero)
At 338 pages, this book somehow felt much longer. Between the extremely lengthy, very sexually explicit one night stand hook-up/smex encounter details between Noah (aka Jarvis) and Gracie shortly after first meeting at a basically over wedding reception, which covered a couple of chapters, I was left wondering when substance was going to replace steam. You see, I’m more of a fan of getting to know the characters first before being so vividly flashed/introduced to their private parts. If steam is your thing, you’ll likely love how drawn out it was. No, I’m no stranger to smexy reads or this author’s work. I’ve read every single book she’s written. I just felt she laid it on much thicker than usual or necessary this go around. A sure sign is when I found myself mentally uttering, “Oh, they’re at it again!”, and on occasion the smex started to feel like filler material. I guess you could say sometimes too much of a good thing can come across as just that.
My patience was rewarded with eventually learning the ins and outs of this couple’s past, baggage/secrets included, and seeing them form an emotional connection, basically after “the incident”. They definitely did make a sweet couple, and I’m glad they got their HEA. I was disappointed the big reveal regarding Gracie’s medical secret. Once again, I think the author overdid making Gracie come across as tragic.
Since I’m a sucker for an alpha, good guy hero wanting to be with his lady love, Noah seemed to know what I needed of him. Be persistent and go after the girl no matter what. I loved how he tended to pop up out of nowhere to do just that. He seemed to be all in long before Gracie got with the program, folks.
With Gracie, we are given an emotional damsel in distress trying to fight her way out of a self imposed, completely imagined, strangle hold on her own life. Boo hoo for her for having friends and family who love her to the moon and back. I didn’t get why she was so bent on proving what she felt needed to be proved. I wanted to tap her on the shoulder and say, “Get over it, girl, and enjoy life and love with this man!” Sure enough, eventually she physically became a damsel in distress, with Noah riding to the rescue.
After “the incident’, Gracie did prove she didn’t have the gift of common sense. Seriously, intentionally not revealing important details had me shaking my head in shame for her sheer stupidity. The end result was several lengthy chapters of not a lot happening. Cuddling with Noah, starting at walls, showering with Noah, staying mum/avoiding the elephant in the room, then eventual more sexcapades with Noah would have been time better spent on the underlying plot, IMHO.
When the fall-out of not having that necessary information upfront reigned down upon everyone, I was thrilled to see the pace pick back up. Oh, I can’t wait to learn more about this new guy (CIA Agent Carson) and the Irish lady love (former MI6 agent Donelly). Now there is a strong, can take a bullet with the best of ’em, can’t keep a good woman down heroic heroine. I LOVE her character and can’t wait for love to come knocking on her verra door. I do so love how this author keeps intertwining and adding new prospective characters for more sequels.

Veils is book four in Brynne Asher’s Killers series, and a highly anticipated release for its fans. Noah Jarvis is the reason behind that anticipation and he was better than imagined.
Summary:
It was only supposed to be one night. A night to make a memory to take with her through the years. But Noah Jarvis quickly finds that Gracie Cain has so many layers, it’ll take a lifetime to peel them all away. And he wants to be the man to do that. Gracie may be tough and determined on the outside, but Noah sees what’s hiding in her eyes. She’s marked him now, and there’s a lifetime more memories left to be made. Not even an ocean will stop him from pursuing her. Nor the fact she’s the boss’s little sister. It won’t be easy. Noah will have to soothe the demons Gracie carries, and there’s the little matter of his secret and dangerous career choice. A job that has just come back to bite him in the butt. It’ll take all of Noah’s skills and contacts to protect not only himself, but Gracie, too, making convincing her they have a future, that much harder.
*************************
All it took was the prologue. This book gripped me from the very beginning, and I can admit to maybe having snarled and mumbled curses under my breath when I was forced to put it down. Lol. Veilsis a book about finding unconditional love, and that love spanning continents and cultures. With Brynne’s patented cast of characters and a bit of action and suspense, you’ll become invested in Jarvis and Gracie’s story. Gracie is a pretty amazing heroine. She’s unique in that she’s strong, resilient, determined, and loving while still holding a vulnerability and fragility that’s heartbreaking. Her experiences have shaped who she is which is a smart, funny woman with an incredibly big heart, but also a woman who’s had to fight to get where she is. Jarvis was something else. I’m not sure I knew what to expect from him after seeing him in previous instalments. He’s confident with a hint of arrogance, strong, smart, lethal, and serious. His intensity worked for him, though. In a big way. I loved his immediate knowledge of what he wanted, and the lengths he went to, to get it. He was everything Gracie didn’t know she needed. As a couple, they fit perfectly. I loved the banter between them, but the way they got to know each other is what endeared them to me. Their connection was instant and they were close, but we still got to experience the sweetest courtship, too. The steamy scenes were well-written and hot, adding just that little bit more depth and connection that keeps you hooked. In the end, Jarvis and Gracie wrecked me in all the best ways. Their story is full of laughs, tears, and love. The storyline had some travel and action, and kept me entertained from the first word to the last. Supporting cast, as always with Brynne, was amazing. I loved seeing our previous Killers and catching up with the women who claimed them. The cohesiveness of their group is like that of a large family, happy to bring anyone and everyone into the fold. We also met a few new characters and I am ecstatic to get to know more about them in future. I see some definite fireworks in the Killers universe future. Brynne has a way of pulling you deep into her written world, and making it difficult for you to want to leave. This is true of all of her books, but Veils seemed to magnify this talent tenfold. I also really love the quote-ability (word??) of this book. There are some truly amazing lines in this book, and I just had to share one of my favorites (which I don’t normally do in reviews).
“Give me a memory, Noah.”
I love this! And quite a few more, but this was my first highlight and it spoke to me. It continues to speak to me, even after finishing the book. I definitely recommend Veils to anyone looking for that perfect romance with a bit of danger and suspense, and an alpha who knows what he wants and works at getting it. I know I came away with a few memories from my time between the pages, and I’m looking forward to getting more every time I reread.
Damm Damn Damn I didn’t want this book to end. Brynne Asher really Truelly out does herself with every Beautiful Love story she gives us.
Without giving you much Im gonna say that this book is Brynn’s best book yet. She is gives us so much of everything and hung onto every word.
Jarvis and Grace’s story is unique, unexpected and just down right beautiful. Their love for each other is just awe inspiring.
Jarvis proves to us all thay he is the best Hero written in a very long time. His love and care for Grace is Powerful. Nothing and no one can stand in hia way.
These two will break your heart but I promise you will also cry happy tears.
Jarvis is swoony and ohhhh so Alpha. He is Protective ans Fiercely so. I promise you this book is the type of story that will stay with you forever.
An absolute 10 star read. Grab it now….
Enjoy!!!!
Gracie and Noah are so good together. I had no idea where this book would go or how it would go but it had me hooked from the prologue. There’s so much to enjoy and when I hit that final page all I could think was “heck that was a good book”
I’m thinking a re-read of the entire series is in order.
I have been in a book slump for a while. It has taken me a lot longer to get into books and be excited about reading them. So as much as I love Brynne Asher, I was nervous to read this book. Turns out I am dramatic and did not need to be nervous at all because this book was amazing!
Veils. I don’t know if I will be able to adequately write a review that describes the way Veils made me feel. Veils is part of a series, and although I would encourage you to read the previous books before reading this one, it is not necessary. The previous books allow you to understand the background of the secondary characters.
From page one you get sucked into the world Brynne has woven. Brynne Asher knows how to write a book that is honestly, everything. A strong, determined heroine. A fiercely protective yet broken hero. This book has everything; suspense, sadness, laughter, mystery, action, pain, and most of all love and healing. One of my favorite things about Brynne is that she knows how to create secondary characters who are just that. They add amazingly to the story, but they do not take away from the main characters. This is honestly not the easiest thing to do, and I commend Brynne for her ability to do that in EACH book she has written.
Brynne is truly a phenomenal author and remains at the top of my list of favorite authors.
I didn’t think it was possible for anyone to out due Cameron from Athica Lane from my number one book boyfriend, but Jarvis has taken my number on spot. We have met both characters from other books from Brynne, but now they finally get to meet in Veils.
This book has all the feels, one chapter you’re laughing, one you’re crying, one you’re on the edge of your seat and then sparks are flying out of your kindle, they are that good together. You always wonder if when an author writes a series if the next books will ever be as good as the first, but as Brynne has showed in her other series, yes they seem to just get better and better.
Can’t wait for the next book in the Killer’s series, I think I may know who it will be about, and if I am right, this one may just top all her other books.
A new story in one of my favorite series! Yay! If you haven’t started the Killers series yet you have been missing out and should start immediately. Although Veils CAN be read as a standalone I dont recommend it – you definitely need to go back and read the stories of Crew, Grady and Asa first to understand the group/boss/work dynamic of the story.
I enjoyed this book from the beginning but my enjoyment actually grew as the story progressed. If you like strong, independent women, alpha men, characters who are survivors, some action with your romance and swoony love stories that combine all of these with touches of humor then you should not hesitate to pick up this book (and series) – also it’s all available in KU at the time of writing this review so even more reason to dive in.
Seriously cannot wait for the next book!!!
…just wow. When you wait for the next book in the series your one worry is will the author be able to top the last one or at least make it as good. I’m so happy to say Brynne you out did yourself with this book! Having met Jarvis in the previous books, well met might be an exaggeration but we knew of him, he seems larger than life. The mystery surrounding him made him appealing. Now once you get to meet the ‘real Noah Jarvis’ you realise we never ‘knew’ him at all. When he meets Gracie, what’s supposed to be a one and done is no longer that simple. Who she is and how she is knocks him on his As#. This story takes so many twists and turns you can’t know what’s gonna happen next. It is not predictable at all. Once you add in our other favourite characters things get really interesting. What shines through most in this story is their unmistakable chemistry and deep seated need and love for each other. I have a major book hangover now. One of the best books I’ve read by this author and that says a lot as I loved them all.
Veils delivers all the heart racing and pounding adventure mixed in with sweetly beautiful moments I’ve come to expect from the Killers series.
Gracie and Noah’s story became so much more than what I was hoping and expecting to get, which absolutely delighted me and kept me riveted to my kindle, fighting between wanting to read faster to see what happens next and wanting to slow down so it wouldn’t end yet.
I loved the match of healer Gracie combined with killer Noah, and how each had exactly what the other desperately needed. There’s something swoon-worthy about a man who knows what he wants and doesn’t allow anything to get in his way…. anything! And then having the girl be the soft that helps to smooth out her man’s rough edges? Add in the beauty that comes from friendships and family, and the intense way that love is shown, magic is created.
As with all the other stories in the Killers series, Veils quickly became a favorite and I’m looking forward to what the future holds for this story-world.
