“Ella has stepped up her game big time with this book! It was total perfection..” – Stacy, Biblio Belles Book Blog
“An unbelievable story of good and evil, about love, passion, loss, and healing. ” – Nessa, Rebel Book Chicks
Tick, tick, tock.
Time.
That’s all I have now.
A small room, a photograph, and time.
They want me to trust them and confess my sins.
They told me they wouldn’t judge … confess my sins.
They told me they wouldn’t judge me—they lied.
I thought we could convince the world that this wasn’t a crime.
We were wrong.
Time doesn’t stand still.
The clock keeps ticking, the world is unconvinced, and now…
Now he is gone.

Ella Frank told a beautiful story about a girl and boy who shouldn’t be together but who desperately wanted nothing else from the moment they laid eyes on each other.
I have to say my rating is based on the fact that I have read several books with an age gap or forbidden romance such as this and while they are my guilty pleasure this one just didn’t do it for me. Not that it was bad because far from it and yet I have read way better. No matter how much I tried Addison just bothered me and I think that is why the story was lacking to me.
Obviously you can’t tell this is a student-teacher romance from the book description. I love those kind of romances so I’m glad I came across this one.
Addison is a senior in high school and she has some mental health issues from watching her brother, Daniel, die a few years prior. She felt it was her fault and develops some obsessive behaviors because of it.
Grayson is the new history teacher. Addison is relentless in seeking him out, trying to seduce him, being completely inappropriate. But Grayson can only say no for so long because he wants her too.
This wasn’t a “fall in love with a student before having sex” type of story. I guess I enjoyed it in that way since it was different.
The story alternates between past and present and different POVs which aren’t labeled with the characters name, by the way, so you have to read a paragraph or two in to figure out who is “talking.” It wasn’t so bad in that it created a mystery of what happened between them and why Addison was where she was in the present.
Oh and one irrelevant thing I want to point out – Grayson has long hair and I don’t like that in my male characters.
The sex wasn’t over the top or anything but for some reason I found it really hot. I was really into those scenes.
The ending didn’t really answer any questions about the future and I kind of missed that.
Hmm. 3.5. I don’t think I can really rate it higher than that.
6 Stars!!!
This is my first Ella Frank Novel and Wow…she has gained a Huge Fan! When I started it the synopsis only said tick, tick, tock so I went in blind and that was perfect! I always try my hardest to go spoiler free with all my reviews and sometimes it’s easy and other times it’s difficult. So here we go….
Addison Lancaster is seen as an All-American girl starting her senior year in high school. And Mr. McKendrick is her new History Teacher and also new to town. When they first meet it is electric even though it shouldn’t be….
This is also my first student/teacher book and at first I didn’t know how I felt about that but you will see Addison is a mature but complicated 18 year old and she is no victim. Throughout the book it will go from Addison’s POV to Mr. McKendrick’s and also from past to present. I enjoy puzzles and putting all the pieces together in this book made me hooked from start to finish.
The writing is amazing and kept me on the edge of my seat. It was the biggest emotional roller-coaster ride I have ever been on! I finished it about two hours before I went to bed and I was still laying there for an hour thinking about it. I even dreamt of clocks and when I woke up this morning I didn’t have a song in my head which is not unusual for me but instead I had tick, tick, tock….
This is a different type of book that I have ever read before and it has been added to my favorite reads for 2014! I highly recommend it and I will be added more of Ella Frank’s novels to my TBR.
Quotes: I had a so many!
I was late…great, as if I wasn’t anxious enough. This was just what I needed on the first day of my senior year.
In those eyes. They held secrets they shouldn’t have.
“I need to feel alive again.”
There truly aren’t enough words to describe or even explain the utter perfection this story is.
None.
What I just read was quite possibly one of the most beautiful and heartfelt student-teacher romance stories I have EVER had pleasure of reading.
I was at the verge of tears many times, until they all flowed and I couldn’t stop them.
This story was beautiful, poetic, tragic, erotic, and SO perfectly woven. Grayson and Addison’s heartbreaking & hopeful love story will stay with me forever.
Thank you, Ella Frank. YOU are exactly why I love the romance genre.
I always seem to find myself drifting back to student/teacher storiesThere’s just something about a forbidden relationship that lures me in. VEILED INNOCENCE did just that to me, lured me in. I was spellbound by the writing and story right from the beginning! The past and present chapters gave me the ability to delve deeper into these characters. This was my first novel by Ella Frank and she had me rooting for this unlikely couple right away, DAM THE CONSEQUENCES! They needed to risk it all!

Pulling my hand away from the shelf, I gripped her hair and arched her neck back. My lips hovered over hers. “You are going to ruin me.”
That was when she did the unexpected. She placed her palm over my heart and tapped—One, two, three. One, two, three—before whispering, “You’re going to save me.”

If this type of storyline intrigues u even an iota, then u MUST one click this book! This student/teacher story is unique and is packed with unexpected feels. I can wholeheartedly recommend it! I’m SO HAPPY I took a chance on this story. Grayson and Addison r cemented in my heart FOREVER.
The only reason I knocked this down 1/2 a star was bc of the ending. I LOVED the resistance, the push/pull throughout the book and the eventual moment of giving in. It all was leading up to their HEA, but then the ending came and I was just left feeling a mixture of bliss and emptiness. I had a moment where I just kept tapping my kindle trying to go to the next page because there’s no way it could just end like that. I NEEDED more. My heart, that had been rooting for them the WHOLE book, yearned for more.

#OneTwoThree….4.5
I loved the strong female lead. Even as broken as Addison was from traumatic passed events, she carried on with confidence. Through Addison’s obsession with time and counting, I was able to feel more emotionally involved. The panic that would start and the calming sense that came through 1,2,3 and tick tock helped take you inside her head. I loved the connection between Addison and Mr. McKendrick. The use of history lessons was a wonderful way to show how things had come full circle. The passion was hot and just enough angst to have you hooked. The past/present changes always left you wondering what was going to happen. The ending was perfect.
