The entire BEAST HORDE trilogy has been released: Vargr, Rutger, Cyn. “Sleeping Beauty with a grim-dark twist.”Cyn falls from the top floor of the world into the arms of Vargr, a winged beaster who rates a diamond 10 on the Scale of Hardness. In her hands is a piece of Ghoul Lord. She’s forgotten the last five years of her life, the years of the invasion of the Ghoul Lords – though her body hasn’t … the years of the invasion of the Ghoul Lords – though her body hasn’t forgotten how good a hard man feels under her exploring fingers.
The beast horde was meant to save Earth. Once human, they now carry gene-warping nano-machines in their blood. No one told them they’d also been injected with the remnants of myths and legends.
They tried and they failed. What can Cyn with her amnesia and sparkly eyes possibly do? Vargr isn’t sure, but he’s beginning to see the pros of nailing a naked Cyn to the wall and floor, over and over, until he gets some good answers.
A crumbling world steeped in gothic sci-fi darkness, packed with throbbing, brutal males.
“… the Beasters failed to conquer the invaders, and now they hide in the shadows. Now they are the protectors of the last humans. Gifted with various and extreme nano modifications each Beaster bears their own unique set of features, horns, wings and more taken from fantasy and lore.”
“A fantastic post-apocalyptic, steamy, alien invasion, genetically modified soldiers, humans on the verge of extinction epic story!”
VARGR is an edgy, action-packed, post-apocalyptic romance and is the first book in Beast Horde. The story of Cyn and her lovers continues in RUTGER and concludes in CYN.
This story contains rough intense sexual scenes.

This has got to be my favourite to date of this authors work.
I bloody adored this like so much and am now gagging for my next fix of this amazingly addictive story, thankfully that’s not too long as the next ones out mid-December.
This was such an exciting and interesting premise a sort of post-apocalyptic sci-fi with smexy bits.
Set against a post-apocalyptic landscape in the aftermath of an alien invasion, Ghoul Lords have conquered the planet and are using the human race for breeding and food.
Keeping them enraptured and contained with the Lure a sort of thrall.
In a last-ditch attempt at fighting back, the beast horde was created a genetically engineered experiment to produce superior human warriors spliced with unknown DNA.
At this moment this horde and limited humans are all that’s left of humanity and they are now hiding in the shadows from the Ghoul Lords just attempting to survive.
Cyn a human of unknown origins awakens from the Lure, finding herself on the roof and a prisoner of the alien overseers she becomes the first to ever break free fleeing and damaging a ghoul lord in the process.
Falling from up-high she is rescued and plucked from the sky by a winged saviour.
Vargr is one of these engineered experiments and to keep her safe from the lure bondmates her before taking her home to his tribe.
well, this was all sorts of fabulous and I enjoyed this immensely.
We are introduced into this imaginative world gradually with zero info dump and this story unfolds with Cyn, Vargr and also some Rutger (another Beast fascinated with Cyn) all taking there turn centre stage.
This had just the right balance between action and heat I also really appreciated the character dynamic, the encounters here sizzled with there intensity spotlighting the incredibly chemistry.
I also especially liked the dub-con play between the characters this was all sorts of hot hot hot.
There was so much going on here in terms of story direction and mystery and this managed to capture my attention completely.
I liked where this went and how we left things and my god that thrilling finale was all sort of edge of your seat.
Ever so excited about this new series and this introduction into it was brilliant from start to finish.
This was a five star read all the way and is one I highly recommend it was a non-stop addictive journey and there wasn’t one thing here that I actually disliked.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of Vargr (Beast Horde #1).

Oh damn was this book so good. I didn’t want to put it down and now I have to wait till Dec for the next one. I’ve read several of Cari’s book’s and loved them, but there was just something about this one that grabbed your attention on the 1st page and kept you trying to figure out what was going to happen next. I love book’s like that.
This is set up in apocalyptic times where war had broke out between Earth and Aliens (Ghoul Lord’s) and scientists had made these hybrid’s of human and a unknown species in the hopes they’d be able to defeat the Ghoul Lord’s yesss Cari went there and you know her kinky side came out between the MC’s Cyn and Vargr and just for more kinkiness a 3rd person Rutger. This book was just so hard to stop reading I wanted to keep reading more. If you like apocalyptic Sci fi stories or just love Cari’s stories then you need to grab this.
A wild ride into a dystopian future
This is the first book of a trilogy, very reminiscent of those early 90’s sci-fi books where each book had it’s own story arc completed but the main story rolls on in the background. It technically ends on a cliffhanger, but not one of those high drama, soap opera style ones that only work if you actually have the next book to hand. No, this book ends on a tantalisingly teasing note that will have you eagerly awaiting the follow up. Good news is that it shouldn’t be too long before that drops into our avaricious hands.
Why am I talking so much about how the book ends, for goodness sake! What I need to be doing is telling you about how flipping amazing this book is, how it blends a finely crafted, slightly mysterious and definitely menacing dystopian world with some amazingly awesome and rounded characters and some rough, dirty, hot and kinky sex.
It’s a little lighter than the Machinery of Desire series, a little rougher around the edges than Preyfinders and nowhere near as dark as the Dark Hearts books. But it’s still totally Cari Silverwood , which for those of you that don’t know is a synonym for excellent, marvellous, magnificent, superb, fine, wonderful, impressive, phenomenal, superior and superlative.
One can never accuse Ms Silverwood’s heroines of being anything less than kick-ass amazing. She writes the ultimate tough cookie gal who likes her men to have impressive qualities (*nudge-wink*) and the wherewithal to use it in any manner they wish, as long as it’s depraved and dirty. However they also quite enjoy being dominated and have some submissive tenancies. Cyn however is an apex predator, she might let you “ravish” her (Amazon friendly speak for fuck her four ways to Sunday) but she is going to damn well decide who, when and how. I loved Cyn. Bloody loved her and her bug eating ways.
Vargr and Rutger are HAWT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry but I just felt I had to put that out there. They’re also well hung, and know what to do with that slab of man meat. However they have a conscience. They are men of morals, occasionally those morals are a little dubious but they have them nonetheless. Doesn’t stop them being kinky buggers either.
Oh yes and I’ve not even mentioned the strangely amorphous and totally creepy Ghoul Lords yet. Those mo-fo’s need taking down big time. I’m into tentacle porn as much as the next girl (and definitely Cyn with her strategic tattoo) but they are enough to totally ruin the experience for me. I’m also rather taken by Mo too, even if IT IS SHAPED LIKE A GOD DAMN FRIGGING SPIDER. Sodding hell does Ms Silverwood enjoy torturing her arachnophobe readers, the evil woman that she is. I can just picture her now, cackling away like some demented person, smugly creating a cute little robot for us to love, and then making it into a creature from our nightmares!
Oops, I appear to have gone off piste and get slightly ever so side-tracked. So back to Vargr. Don’t buy this book if you only like sci-fi that isn’t really sci-fi but where the story could actually be transplanted into a mafia, or MC, or western setting and still work. Don’t buy this book if you like delicate flower heroines or alpha-hole heroes who only have depth when they look in a mirror. Because I’m afraid you will be disappointed by this multi-layered story of genuinely not-quite-human individuals and the adventures that befall them. If you do like a sci-fi romance that’s actually sci-fi then snap this up like a hot cake and enjoy.
Vargr is a post-apocalyptic story of Giant tentacled aliens come to earth and feast on humans. They are called Ghoul Lords and they use a Lure. They like to be in high places so they live on the top of skyscrapers. They are very sadistic and do sexual things to the humans for their enjoyment. Cyn is the female who wakes up with amnesia in the clutches of the Ghoul Lords. She has lost 5 years of her memory, and realizes that she needs to get away from the aliens. She starts pulling away from the tentacles. She gets away and starts backing away and finds that she is way up on the top of a skyscraper and decides to jump. This is when she meets Vargr a man with wings who flew to her and saved her from falling to her death. Cyn and Vargr become very close and become bondmates. The GL is angered by the fact that Cyn got away and decides he must get her back. Cyn is not a regular human, she can actually see the Lure when it is nearby. She also finds that she has a little companion that has been with her even during her captivity his name is little Mo and she finds out she is no normal human. Cari writes very steamy sex scenes that are imaginative. Love the way she writes about monsters with hearts who still can show concern and even love. This is the beginning of a trilogy. A hot read!!
I had a lot of fun reading Vargr, the Beast Horde series’ first book. Sure it was post-apocalyptic but in a fun and very sexy way! It had all the elements for a romping adventure. It had admirable characters whose humanity you could love and root for. It had nasty villains you could hate. It had dire situations that made you cringe on behalf of the protagonists. But Vargr was, overall, a hopeful story. True, the ending is a cliff-hanger that leads into the next book, “Rutger.” The female lead has yet to learn about her human past and beaster origins. Her lovers must sort themselves out. They and their beaster companions must survive the trek into the dangerous wilderness of the aftermath and find what is needed to answer everyone’s questions. And the abominable alien villains just need to die! I only hope the author is leading us onward to a happily ever after. Post-apocalyptically speaking, of course. Five stars.
The first book in a new series and if I would have to describe this story in one line then I would say “ It is a Cari Silverwood book from start to finish” .
When I read a erotic sci-fi story I do want worldbuilding. There is a balance needed between the erotic story and the world it takes place in. You need a good foundation to your story and that is something Cari Silverwood really nailed with this story. There is a unique worldsetting and there are intriguing characters. And what I also love a cute AI, Cari writes the best robot/ai characters.
Since it is the first book a lot isn’t clear yet. There are a ton of quietons going through my mind and I can’t wait to see how those get answered.
I have read all of this authors books. With every one I read I am amazed that I am taken to yet another place and time. I would have to say out of all the books I have read I am leaning toward this being one of my top 5 favorite books of this author. The world that she created is nothing less than spectacular and amazing. We have Cyn who has awaken and has to fight her way to get away from the Ghoul Lord which his mission is to destroy. Then we have another creature who has arrived which is a Beast(Vargr) that has been modified to save the earth. You have to read this story to get the full effect of the development of the characters this author has created. Does Cyn and the Beast have hot sex? Does the Beast save the world? I loved this book was not able to put it down until I read the whole book. The world development, the extent and detail to those characters is amazing. Do Not Let This Pass You By. A MUST READ. This book being the first in this series is making it difficult to have to wait for book 2.
This story blew me away. Not because I didn’t already know Cari Silverwood can write amazing stories, all of her stories are amazing, but because I wasn’t expecting to love the characters so much. If you have read any of this author’s books you will know that she is a master when it comes to imagery. Her imagination knows no bounds when it comes to creating a world and characters that you can’t get enough of. Her worlds are magical, even if they are barren landscapes or cities that have been destroyed beyond recognition. There is just enough description to keep you in the setting without getting bogged down. I love that, because without those descriptions the story just takes place in a blank void. With Ms. Silverwood, you are actually in the story and you see and smell all the things the characters do. Another wonderful thing about her writing is the way she develops her characters. They are complex and have layers (like an onion, lol) that get revealed to the reader slowly. In this one, even the main character, Cyn, doesn’t know her whole story so the complexities are revealed to her as much as they are the reader. This makes her more engaging and keeps the reader on their toes.
This story isn’t as dark as some of her other books, but it is super steamy and exciting. There is danger, adventure, surprises, and elements that will tug at your heart-strings and moments that will make you giggle. That combination of danger and humor keep the story feeling almost lighthearted. The Alpha/Beta/Omega dynamic is one that I’ve seen a lot of recently, but Ms. Silverwood has her own take on it so the story feels fresh and original. The “why” of the dynamic is original, so even though I thought I knew where the story would go, I was constantly being surprised. I also really appreciate that the sexy scenes in her stories aren’t just thrown in to add heat. There is a reason they happen when and how they do, and the passion between the characters doesn’t feel forced or unbelievable.
I thoroughly loved every second of this one. It made me laugh, heated my blood, and thrilled my action-loving soul. I can’t wait to see what happens to Cyn, Vargr, and Rutger next.
Cari Silverwood does this whole post-apocalyptic, huge peen kinda story really well. I mean, just so very well. Her worldbuilding is so fantastic. You can practically smell the smoke and feel the Lure.
Vargr is a beaster. He hs been injected with nanites to turn him into an ultimate weapon against alien invaders. He has wings and saw a woman falling from the Top of a scraper where the Ghoul Lords live. No one has ever escaped the GL, so he’s not sure that Cyn is a human or isn’t a plant placed by the GL.
Cyn, OTOH, has no memory of the past five years, heals so superquick, has a tattoo that says maelstrom on the back of her neck, and one of an octopus in a much more… delicate and obscene location. And that’s all we know about her. That’s all she knows about herself.
I love the dichotomy of Cyn. She goes from I’m so sweet and innocent to I’m going to rip out your still beating heart and eat it in about .02 seconds. I really like that about her. Both sides of her personality are really authentic, and are really just very much her.
I’m less sure about how I feel about Vargr. I think I’m going to change how I feel about him from moment to moment.
RELEASE THE KRAKENS! Oops, I mean the Ghoul Lords. Thus it’s the end of the world as we know it. Cyn awakes to a nightmare and fights to survive. Vargr is the lucky beaster who happens to run into her and save her. Their chemistry is sizzling HOT! He’ll do whatever he needs to keep her alive. Cyn will do whatever she needs to to keep herself alive and figure out how she ended up where she started and what happened to the world.
Cari Silverwood always creates some of the most bad ass female heroine. Smart and strong, they can take care of themselves. Of course, every now and then they need some good hard loving from the lucky hero. Although, they never do make it easy; they got to prove themselves and earn it. This is another great series and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. If you are easily offended by beastly, well endowed men who loves it rough and dirty, this might not be the book for you. But if you are a Cari Silverwood fan, well, don’t miss out on this new series.
What an explosive start to a new series.
Silverwood blends dystopian, steampunk, sci-fi, and genetic engineering into a wildly diverse and entertaining universe that never fails to capture and entertain (and maybe kinda sorta stimulate )
“Here be more than darkness. The times were…macabre, yet one could not survive by defining in anger and turmoil, in musing of the coming end times, it would destroy you. ”
Cyn Is that heroine that we all love. She kicks some serious arse when needs be. She is smart and witty, yet she still radiates a vulnerability that had me wanting to reach in and protect her.
She wakes to the mouth of a Ghoul Lord and decides … NOPE, not happening. I do not want to give away anything because I am of the firm belief that even the littlest of scenes can be a game-changer for the reader. That being said I can promise you lots of action – A lot of twisted mystery and WTH moments – A bit of angst – some seriously hot smexy scenes and complete and total satisfaction.
I do want to note this ends on a bit of an “Oh He LL No you did not” moment.
I’m a quite upset with Varge at the moment as well as with Rutger – You two are idjiots!
I’m also worried about what the future holds for our little warrior.
The next in series is slated to release in Dec — I hope Cyn can hold out that long
I see this series being in one of my top favorites for this genre
Vargr is the first book in the Beast Horde. A new series by this author. The setting for this book is a post-apocalyptic Earth.
Cyn escapes from the Ghoul Lords. (Ghoul Lords are monsters with “tentacles and scythe-like teeth”). Shivers…. They have taken over Earth. The Beast Horde were created to save Earth.
Vargr is a Beaster and he finds Cyn after she has escaped and the story develops on from there.
I love Cari Silverwood’s made-up worlds. I have no idea how she does it but I would say she does a great job with make believe. This is Cari Silverwood at her best.
Her books are not for everyone. They are some of the darkest books that I have read. So if you don’t like dark/kinky/sci-fi books, well hopefully you get the gist.
Post-apocalyptic Awesomeness!
OMG! This is one fantastic post-apocalyptic, sci-fi, end of the human race, action adventure story! It has everything – action, adventure, violence, sex and a whole lot of mayhem! This story will keep you entertained and utterly enthralled from beginning to end. And that ending – AMAZING!
The characters are fantastic and very unique (each in their own way). Cyn is an enigma and not quite like the others – is she human or part of the beast horde. We slowly get to learn more about Cyn as the story unfolds. Right now we know she is one kickass female who has two very big and sexy beasts wanting her. Vargr saved her and wants her for his own. Rutger is also very attracted to her and would like to share. These three together are going to be a powerful trio that will become unstoppable in this unique world. Their interactions are extremely volatile, explosive and combustible! And let’s not forget – utterly panty melting too! So much sexiness!
This story was amazing from beginning to end. It is a roller coaster ride of epic proportions that you can’t look away from! This phenomenal author knows just how to make us crave more of her words and squirm in our seats while reading them! I can’t wait to read the next part of this story! AMAZING!
As an introduction to this upcoming trilogy, this book opens up an intriguing scifi dystopian world rife with mystery, danger, and a surprising amount of humor and heat. I really enjoy Cari Silverwood’s world building, as she gives every setting such depth and thought. Her characters are realistic, from their strengths to their flaws, and everything feels very immersive.
In this particular book we meet Cyn and Vargr, and to a lesser extent Rutger, and begin to see the trials and tribulations of this apocalyptic future. The fight for survival, the questions surrounding Cyn, the diabolical intents of the Ghoul Lords… it’s an enthralling journey I cannot wait to continue in Book 2. What I really like if she doesn’t feel the need to force erotic scenes into her work, letting them build within the parameters of her world, and so everything flows from danger to intrigue to eroticism in a very organic way. It has it’s moments of dirty, sexy heat, but it is not the focus.
If you like excitement and humor in your scifi and dystopian novels, you’ll enjoy this book immensely.
This delightful book is the first of the Beast Horde series. I love the world building style crafted by this author. It’s rude and crude, and yet you feel the intensity and otherworldly ambiance. The banter was hugely entertaining and funny, with intentionally mixed metaphors and lines that had me laughing out loud. And the steam and action kept this story moving right along. I’m dying for more of the Beast Horde!
Great read!!! Loved Vargr and Cyn and Rutger!!! This book was a page-turner for me!! I loved the DOM in Vargr!! Cari Silverwood is a Beast for sure!!
I loved this steamy post-apocalyptic read! Cyn was being held by the Ghoul Lord’s for five years and survived. Vargr catches her after she falls from a building with little memory of what happened. Other’s try to help her gain her memory back but the Ghoul Lord won’t stop trying to get her back. What have they done to Cyn these past five years? Fast-paced read with loads of drama and suspense. This read is fun, hot and entertaining. I loved the characters beastly with a side of humanity. I was hooked from beginning to end, can’t wait for more!
This story grabbed my interest from page one. I LOVE the characters and how they interact with each other and themselves. The plot, fascinatingly perplexing and superbly intriguing, concerns the ultimate destruction/salvation of Earth and its survivors.
Ghoul Lords have taken over the world. Humans are lured to gruesome deaths. Beasters have been created to allow survival. Somehow, Cyn, who seems to be part human, was able escape the tentacles of the Ghoul Lords. Vargr, a Beaster, helps rescue her, but is not quite sure what to make of her. She seems human, but with some traits most “normal” humans do not possess. He is attracted to her, and she to him. They decide to investigate her uniqueness.
I could go into more detail, but that would lead to spoilers. The only way to truly appreciate this story is to meet the unusual characters and then carefully read each and every detail. By the way, the sex scenes are beautifully alluring, erotic and enticing enough for me to want more. Read and enjoy.
This dystopian book made me giggle through a large portion, with its cheeky references to tv shows, a certain movie about aliens living as humans on Earth, and an author who is making his fans wait years for a sequel to his series (among other things) This story is about an alien invasion, years after the world has been decimated. It’s a very unusual take on the genre, making it a memorable entry in this group of novels.
Silverwood created Beasts that were artificially enhanced to save the world. Unlike most plots in this style of story, the Beasts fail in their mission. This is not a spoiler, as it’s stated toward the beginning of the story. Cyn literally drops into Vargr’s lap, and an adventure is born.
I loved the concept of the Lure. Frightening and possible, the Lure is the aliens greatest weapon. Messing with the minds, they use the Lure to enslave and conquer. I loved the “specialness” of Cyn’s gift in relation to the Lure.
These Beasts are big, strong, with varying abilities that none of them truly understand. And these Beasts are constantly reminded of the comforts of old that are gone now. It’s a huge part of the book that grounds this alien tale with a true humanity. We discover that sex with Beast cures the Lure, at least temporarily. I don’t know if Silverwood meant to be subversive here, but it sure seems that way to me! Imagine the day that having sex CURES the STD? Lol.
We learn very little about Cyn and her abilities, because she just doesn’t remember or understand. Clearly there’s a government conspiracy at work, but the extend of it? Who knows.
Some memorable quotes:
“Vargr drew a deep breath and kept on walking. He really had a problem. Not enough females to #$& was going to make his balls burst. Wow. I’m a poet too. ”
Banzai! Gung ho! Yippee-ki-yay, mother$%&! Avidex rather liked using the terminology of whatever planet they’d captured.
A raspberry would be her response next time he asserted his ownership. Loud and clear raspberry. Check.
““Anyway, Vargr and I have bonded. I am his and he is mine. You know? Love in the apocalypse etcetera.””
He looked more like the leader than what he truly was—the outnumbered representative of another tribe. His horns were twice as wide as his head, and as grand as a twirling ballerina. Seen this close, the blueness on the horns seemed to vibrate the air about them. Specks drifted outward only to be extinguished as if they were embers dying in the cool air.
Danger, Will Robinson. Least they’d remade that show before the invasion. So many series he’d never binge watch ever again. If anything made him sad about the demise of humankind, it was that.
What else were men for except to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous women?
Who’d have thunk it? The main disadvantage of the Apocalypse was a lack of pizza.
Silverwood also touched on environmental concerns without being preachy, which makes this the most well rounded apocalypse book I’ve ever enjoyed reading. She’s an intellectual writer who’s not afraid to let her freak flag fly here. Who else could quote Shakespeare and wax poetic about a spiked member? Warning, cliffhanger, but Cyn is such an amazing character that you will want to learn more. A rebel female that demands your attention and elicits nothing but awe.
4.5 stars
One of the best things about this author is her ability to create a world that is unlike anything else that I have read. Regardless, of the series, each world is always different. She does not ever regurgitate the tried and true from her previous book and seems to like the challenge of starting from scratch. There are some elements that are the same; a fierce female that take no names, well-endowed heroes that defy what any normal nether region should be equipped to handle, and painful sex with a touch of BDSM. What more can a reader ask for?
From the first page, I couldn’t help but think that this author continues to push my comfort zone. Which, is ironic because this is definitely not as hardcore as some of her other books. Yet, anytime tentacles are brought into the mix and that there is a possibility that the villain has the capacity to eat whoever is on the other end of one of the tentacle appendages and I am instantly questioning if she might have finally gotten even more extreme in her writing. The answer to that is no. To be honest, I am not sure there is anything that can push me to not enjoying this author.
I enjoyed the stellar characters and story as I usually do. Even though this story is unique and has great potential as the series progresses it is not my favorite that this author has written. I didn’t fully get one hundred percent invested in the story. However, that is not to say that this still wasn’t good. I would still recommend this for anyone that likes to dip their toes in the sci-fi world with naughty steam thrown in. Trust me when I say that this author will never let you down.
