Vanquish is the second book in the Deliver Series. OMG….I can’t beliieve Pam Godwin made me love Van. As the villian from Book 1 in this series I did not like him and I wasn’t too sure how he could be redeemed. Vanquish was captivating, thought-provoking and unexpected. It captured my attention from the first chapter, it had me seriously thinking about this debilitating disease called agoraphobia and it was nothing like I was expecting it to be.
This story will take you on a roller-coaster ride of emotions. This was a heartbreaking story about two damaged complex characters who healed each other and found love together. We learned so much about these two in this story and what made them into the people they became. Yes this was dark, but some of the back and forth banter will have you amused and brings much needed levity to the story. Vanquish was another phenomenal page-turner from Pam Godwin and I would highly recommend it to all lovers of Dark Romance.
Wow! This 2nd book in the Deliver series was great! Van’s story was a great surprise compared to his character in book 1. Pam done a wonderful job with expanding his character into a person that truly desires to help a woman who is struggling within herself and in the process finds himself and love. Book 1 should certainly be read first
Holy Fuck this book and I knew I was going to fall in love with Van. I felt for him in Deliver now I fell in this book
Van Quiso You know him as The Master, The Stalker, The Whore, The Broken boy ..When he let go of the one slave he wanted as his own. He finds this woman who for some reasons wants to control her to break her to fix her. Im glad he got his ending what he wanted Livana Aww
Amber Rosenfeld Beauty Queen, The image of the perfect woman but her ex broke her. Then her OCD and Anxiety got out of control and Agoraphobia setin her life pretty much ended. The Fear of Fear is the worst fear of all. This poor girl has no idea how her life is going to unravel
These 2 are made for each other . The both are broken but are helping each other to fix themselves. I love getting Vans story and I cant wait to hear about the other slaves stories
“Sometimes you have to step back to open the door.”
“Fear is an imposture, little girl. It doesn’t bruise or thrust or bite.”
“Fear is not your Master.”
“After I flay the skin from your body, I’m going to dye it and sew it into a handbag. Special order from your momma.”
“So you have issues. Dont we all?”
“Is this the man you want the lights on with?”
“You really dont know someone until you see them in the dark.”
“It used to be a tree trunk. Im so badass I chewed it down to a toothpick.”
“Its just stuff attached to broken memories. Burning it will inspire new ones to grow.”
This installment follows Van and Amber on their rather interesting journey! Van, struggling to move on from the events if Deliver, resorts to some rather interesting methods to keep Liv in his sights. Though he soon becomes rather distracted by her interesting neighbor that never leaves her house and has encounters with delivery men that are just us interesting! An encounter with Amber has him completely fascinated and he finds himself unable to move on. And then she makes him the most insane offer! And he can’t seem to say no. Amber has no idea what is about to happen to her carefully constructed world, and Van has no idea what she will do to him. He never saw it coming. Josh and Liv make an appearance, since they happen to live right next door! Another five star read by Pam Godwin!
After reading Deliver this one shocked me… Even though Vanquish is a standalone book, I highly recommend reading Deliver before Vanquish.
I hated Van with a passion in Deliver until the end, then I knew there was a whole other side to Van that he didn’t let out. Vanquish explains Van’s childhood upbringing which definitely explained a lot of his personality traits. Fighting his own demons and trying to help others was not in his plans.
Van – just wanted to be a good father. 8 years of hell working as a human traffic’er for his father. Never allowed to meet his daughter. Van made Livana is the most important thing in his life, even though it is from a distance…Until he met Amber.
Amber – just wanted to be normal again. She was a pageant winning fitness model, but at the end of her 14 year marriage to a man that degraded her looks took a toll on her mental state of mind. Her OCD and Agoraphobia reared its head which in turn keeps her holed inside for 2 years… Until she met Van.
Its astonishing how 2 “broken” individuals can over come their past and work together to form a perfect relationship.
I fell in love with Van in Deliver. I just new there was something beautiful beneath the pain and torment. His love and obsession for Liv definitely was intense and that is where his book begins. Van is searching for a way to find a place of forgiveness from Liv so that she will allow him to be a father to their daughter. From his “stalking of Liv & Josh” Van unexpectantly runs into Amber who lives next door. And these two make the most unlikely of compatible allies. As Amber gazes upon Van’s face reflecting on his scar, “It should’ve made her look away. Instead, it demanded tolerance, homage even, and fortified the savagery of his beauty. He was a perfect imperfection.” And Van, “He wanted her vulnerability. Amber was the one he’d been waiting for, and considering the irony that she lived right next door to Liv, maybe Amber had been waiting for him. And so it began. The rocky start slowly build on trust, laughter, intimacy and a connection that neither one had ever experienced before. And when each one has their dark moments now they have each other to help them emerge from the depths. It’s an incredible story with a fantastic HEA.
After meeting Van in Deliver he was the enigma for me.
His fetishes and obsessions were wtf and omg for me.
Van is such a complex character yet simple in many ways.
Yes it’s a contradiction but once Ms. Godwin unfolds his story in Vanquish everything comes together and his actions have reasoning behind them.
I use the word unfold because that’s exactly how I felt it happened.
Slowly things start to unbind and become more open and untangled.
There’s more to Van than just an evil cruel man that I saw in the first book.
Wow Amber what an incredible lady she is!
Agoraphobia is a real thing and I loved how Ms. Godwin slowly built it into Amber.
It was bam all of a sudden she became agoraphobic.
I found Amber to be a strong courageous person.
She’s a fighter through and through.
No matter what life threw at her she dealt with it.
In her own way and in her own time.
And I loved how feisty and sassy she was even in the worst of times.
Stunning book that deals with a few serious topics.
But written with good taste so far as can be for such a topic but also in a way that had my heart pounding and my emotions all over the place for Van.
This is a surprising but brilliant mix of agoraphobic, OCD Amber who has made her home a prison and ill-intentioned Van who has taken and trained slaves. This portrayal of both people their story is creative, dark, humorous. and well-written.
Loved it!!!!!! Like stupidly, in love with these characters and this book. Van just about broke my heart at the end of Deliver in his final scene with Liv and I couldn’t wait to get his story. Not that you need to read Deliver to read this book, it definitely stands alone, but I was hooked on the character in the previous book
Van has lived his life backwards, he was punished early in his life by the horrors of the world, and became a sweet boy as an adult. Okay, he isn’t that sweet, I mean life was hard, and he has done some awful things, and they have shaped him. But his heart is sweet, even all his actions in the book, it all for one person or the other, but those that he cares about drives all his actions
Amber was born infected with mental issues that have directed her entire being. She functioned well enough until her life imploded on her, and now she barely stays alive. She tries, she really does, but some things are just too hard to overcome, and her determination is not enough. Van becomes her catalyst, he becomes her reasons for getting better
Now, there is an HEA, the books needs one, the characters are desperate for one, and I wouldn’t be singing its`praises if there weren’t. How we end up there, not a cliche to be found, it was a wild ride.
Van is a cunning and well practiced tormentor. Amber flicks all his switches and he can’t stay away, nor does he want to. She is too much fun to wind up, until he starts to not want to wind her up. He wants her well, not for himself, but for his heart. He realizes some of what he though he knew wasn’t true, and what love is ends up being one of them.
He is still a lot of fun, that sarcasm he has, when he talks to Josh, it was awesome and made me laugh. His anguish when talking to Liv though, even as you know where she is coming from, what she has endured, and she is not just being a bitch for the sake of it, it jumps out of the story and steals your breath. Van doesn’t do anything in half-measures, he is full out in every action, every emotion and every thought voiced
Amber knows who she is, what she is, and how she is, and until Van she never questioned it, it simply was. As she delves more and more into Van’s thoughts, she finds she is more concerned for him than herself. As much as she tries to do whatever she can for him, it doesn’t make her better, she can’t overwhelm her issues. The way can deal with them is with Van’s help, his assistance, and his support. When she finally has to recognize she must deal with, not wipe away, her problems, only then can she become functional
The ending, the ending of this book, it left me speechless. Not just the epilogue, but when all of the characters we came to know ended up together, working things out. Van and Liv starred in the series, and while they were destined to be apart, the experiences and things they shared, it will always connect them. Van isn’t a bad person, neither is Liv, or Amber, or Josh, they are each unique and little dented, but not broke!
Vanquish which is book 2 and is about Van ended up being surprisingly emotional. I didn’t think that after everything I knew about Van from Deliver that I could feel anything other than hate and disdain towards him but Pam Godwin had other plans. She writes his and Ambers story in a brutal yet compelling way that you can’t help but hold out hope. The book takes a few surprising twists and of course ends leaving you wanting more!!!
This is one of those books that you hate to say that you loved it. Van and Amber are two extremely broken people. They shouldn’t have met, they shouldn’t be together, but somehow they are made for each other. Amber has been trapped in her own mind for years. Van’s usually traps people, but he wants to free her.
Loved Deliver and I think I love Vanquish even more! To revisit Van and to see more of who he is…wow! Love Pam’s books. Love the dark nature of them! Awesome Read!
What a book!!!
This series is just brilliant. I m goin to say it again but why have I got read this series sooner. The first book was great and I didn’t think the other books could be better. But I was wrong this book was so so good. Once I knew it was Van’s book I was a lil nervous he is a crazy character. I m not goin to lie there I didn’t really like him much in Deliver. But this book was just brilliant and I think I actually luv Van now.
This story was so good. I wasn’t sure how it was goin to work with Van. He is a very complex character. He has had a really hard up bringing and his father was just a total mad man. Who made an evil part of Van grow. The thing he has done are just horrible. Van still had these feeling through this book. But I did enjoy him turning into a better man. The way he was with Amber was so good. I never thought there was a caring protective side to him. Once he found Amber this side of him tried to fight through. Eventually he couldn’t fight it anymore.
I don’t know where to start with Amber. My heart went out to her. She has been through hell. Every day is a struggle for her she has to fight OCD, agoraphobia and self confidence. These were just a few things she has to deal with there were so many. Agoraphobia was her worst demon she would be so sick even the thought of goin outside. Van turning up and learning these things about her scared her so much. But there was something about him that made her challenge him which she hadn’t done to someone in a very very long time. He made her want to get better but she still has doubts about him.
The attraction between these to was crazy. They are both really complex people. I didn’t think it could work. But they did and I was so excited to them change and get stronger. They were so good for each other. My heart broke for both Van and Amber. What happened to both of them was so horrible. My opinion on Van changed so much. The way he made Amber want to be the woman she used to be was really good. Sometimes it was hard and I want to go mad at him cause I knew it wasn’t goin to work. This book has me a lil crazy. But I couldn’t help getting sucked into the story. I would highly recommend this book. I can’t wait to read more from this series. I just know it’s going to be good.
This is the 5th book of read from Pam Godwin. I first read Deliver and wow it was a little rough and dark. Was a great read but made you think about your day to day process of your life. Know when I wanted to read about Van and see how screwed up he was. I was in for a big surprise. The feeling I got from Van was he was never loved. That was what he wanted from his mother(drug whore who just sold her kid up the river), father that gave a crap except for him to make him money. Then you throw Liv in and I really think he care about her but she never cared back. Which is how we get to Amber. I think she is in the same boat as love. Also, she had a ex who was horrible to her. I was so hoping that she would help Van out in the beginning of the book and change his way. Well I don’t want to spoil the book. So you are going to just have to read it. All I can say is that I loved the way these to help each other out in the end. This is a must read in the series.
Just finished Vanquish and I enjoyed it.
I had read Deliver and it was different, as was this.
Van can come off as creepy, but you also wanna like him, despite him being a kidnapper and well a rapist.
Amber also has issues and she had a disorder agoraphobia. She is a broken individual and she kinda can’t function as times.
This was good book, granted isn’t for everyone, just like deliver. But I do enjoy all of Pam Godwins books.
One thing about Pam’s writing is captivating. She won’t let you go until finish and even then you would still sit there and WTF of what you just read.
Vanguish is dark romance with lots of trigger warning. Rape, kidnap, violant sex and details steamy scenes. I warn you, if your stomach couldn’t handle the trigger warning, don’t ever try reading it.
No, when i meet Van in Deliver, i know he is not that evil as depicted in Deliver. Or atleast until he meet the right person. The right dol that even after he broke in, she wouldn’t be destroy. And he find all that in Amber. An agorophobia, OCD, bulemic etc ex pageant queen. A true warrior who just a little nudge to conquer all of her fear. Or so he thinks.
The problem is the way Ms. Godwin potrait how Van’s work to break Amber so he can have her again. I’ll say its unbelievable in life and waaay too risque. Van being a Master and push her and push her, i’m afraid i have to question that.
I love their chemistry tho. I love how clean and flowing the story are.
But i must say i love how Ms. Godwin didn’t “cure” Amber in a month of her time with Van. It would be too magical. I love how it took time for Amber to be brave. To do it for her self. To learn in the most scary and painfull way. To fight her demon. And Van…i love how he let her go cause he love her. Love how he prove him self worthy for her. Love how Van let him self vulnerable to love and be love.
Over all, i love Ms. Godwin woven her dark twisted enchanting words
This book is stunning. Dark, tragic and twisted, the storyline quickly engulfs you and doesn’t let you escape until the very last page. Van and Amber are complex characters. They are both emotionally scarred and broken. Truly these characters will make your heart just break. With chemistry that is atomic, their scenes are scorching. From their first heart racing meeting you can feel such powerful intensity that it is almost impossible to look away. This book is gritty, raw, painful and sometimes uncomfortable to read. It will make you mad, make you cry and yes make you smile. It Is a read that will shock you and move you. And it is a book you will remember for a long, long time.
Van Quiso I love you
Another 10 book by Pam. In book 1 I hated Van Quiso, in book 2 I love him unabashedly
That is the power of pam’s writing.
Van is a slave trader on a stalk trail of Liv and Joshua. He’s obsessed with finding and connecting with a piece of his life and meets Amber Reed by accident. As their story moves forward, his story and quest takes a backseat to him wanting to fix her !!
The passion and love and angst and his insecurity , all tug at my heart strings and Van redeems himself and how. A beautiful story , very tender ( in a dark book ?!?!!!)
I’m so in love with Van
This book grabs you from the first page and never let’s go. So hold on tight .
I don’t even know how its possible to hate a character in one book and then love then in another. I tried so hard to resist the twisted man that is Van after seeing how twisted his love for Liv was in Deliver. But somehow Pam Godwin has done some serious voodoo.
Van is not a good guy. He is sick and twisted. So forgive my sick heart for falling for him. Van is still trying to get over his feelings for Liv and setting his ultimate plan in motion. But Van doesn’t expect is to meet Amber and be consumed by her. Amber suffers from agoraphobia and suffers from her dark and violent past. In her carefully planned like she does not plan for Van to shake up her carefully controlled life. Van gets connects to Amber in a way on he knows how. Amber sees something in Van that has her completely drawn to him. Their relationship is completely unorthodox, but hard to turn away from. I was so addicted to Van and Amber.
There are no other books out there like Deliver and Vanquish and its what makes this series so addictive. This author has raised the bar with this series that is unlike anything I have ever read.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.
Vanquish is the second book in the Deliver Series from Pam Godwin. While each book can be read as a standalone you so want to read these books in order.
Amber’s life is like a prison cell. A self-made, existence that locks from the inside. Stop judging. Her agoraphobia doesn’t define her. It simply keeps her safe. Van belongs in a prison cell that locks from the outside. But, he is free. To hunt. To take. To break. And he just found a sexy new toy. Capturing her is the easy part. Her mind however makes him question everything he does next. But his is determined and if all goes will this will really hurt.
We first met Van in Deliver. He was Liv’s for lack of a better word, partner in crime. They also have a child together and now that Liv has moved on Van needs to do the same. But, he has to keep tabs on his daughter. From the porch of a house that he thinks is abandoned, he spies on Liv. Secretly he still wants her back, but he also wants to be a dad to his daughter and hates the fact in a way that Live now has a relationship with her. Imagine his surprise when a woman, one of the most beautiful women he has ever seen steps out on the porch like a maniac and flees basically to her mail box but doesn’t make it back to the house without having the worlds biggest panic attack and starting the obsession Van will seem to have for Amber. He is going to fix her. Really though I was so hoping that they fixed each other. I know Van was the super bad guy in Deliver but in Vanquish we get to see a whole other side of him. A side that has always lived in him but he has obviously forgotten about. Poor Amber will break your heart with her terror of stepping outside to her OCD and other things that she does simply to survive a day. I say survive because she is by no means living life at all. A man destroyed her and it is going to take a stronger one to help her. Van is the man for that job. This book simply put is amazing. Once again Pam Godwin has blown me away.
