Wonderful murder mystery with a detective you will love. Well written, and excellently narrated. I received a free review copy of the audio version of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A real page turner. Story told in two POVs. Detective Luca. A true to life character with doubts and health issues. The missing’s best friend, Dom Stewart. A cocky wannabe. An interesting character. Very entertaining to be inside their minds and hearts.
Vanished (A Luca Mystery #2), my third read from author Dan Petrosini. Seriously well-developed, it takes some getting used to as the author writes in both the first person and also the third. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reading & reviewing it. Andrew Start’s narration adds to the book’s enjoyment. Owning both the Kindle & Audible editions I was able to follow along while being read to. I look forward to reading more from this author and in this series. Next up is The Serenity Murder (Luca Mystery #3). “I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.” (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
This is book two in this series “A Luca Mystery”. I have not read book one and found this book could hold its own without reading book one. Dan Petrosini is a new author to me. It is so nice to find a new author that you like. Andrew Start is the narrator for this and book and he does a wonderful job of brings the book to life. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good mystery.
I was gifted this book with the understanding that I would leave an honest review.
If you read the first book in this series, you will be surprised how many things have changed in Frank Luca’s life. It was like he was a different man. The only similarity was his determination to conduct thorough police work to solve crimes. Luca even experiences another major event in this story (a life-changing one that I unfortunately relate to). The emotions and scenes dealing with this traumatic situation were well written.
I liked the Quotes that started the chapters. My problem was the story dragged on in the middle section. Besides Luca and his partner, no other characters were even likable. Philip was such a tool, it was hard to get emotionally involved in solving his disappearance. I really liked the first book in this series, so it was disappointing to find this story average, at best.
I couldn’t believe the author actually wrote that a 2 week-old puppy was given as a gift to Robin! Who would take a puppy that young from her mother? It’s actually illegal in most states, including Florida, to sell a puppy under 8 weeks old. A mistake like that is a pet peeve and honestly, I should have only rated this Book with 2 Stars for that error.
This review is for the audio book.
I enjoyed this book and think If you like a moden day detective with a few flaws then this is the book/series for you. I like the way author doesn’t solve the mystery in a few hours like they do on TV and you really get the sence that it might end up a cold case even go unsolved. It had a nice use of forensic to solve it but what was really nice is the detective is human with problem and not a fighting machine that can get out of any situation he finds himself in.
With the homicide rate at a low Luca finds himself working other areas of the police department, it’s either do that or look at a cold case. Which is why he finding himself looking in the disappearance of a married man. What starts as a simple missing person case soon gets very complicated with contradicting statements from witnesses or changed statements pointing at suspects but as the information gets dribble to them Luca feels more is going on and soon narrows down his suspect list, if only he could find the evidence to back him up.
The narrator was good and I enjoyed his style of talking.
