Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles—the inspiration for the hit TNT series—continue their bestselling crime-solving streak. • A blessed event becomes a nightmare for pregnant homicide detective Jane Rizzoli when she finds herself on the wrong side of a hostage crisis in this timely and relentless thriller. A nameless, beautiful woman appears to be just another corpse in the morgue. An apparent … the morgue. An apparent suicide, she lies on a gurney, awaiting the dissecting scalpel of medical examiner Maura Isles. But when Maura unzips the body bag and looks down at the body, she gets the fright of her life. The corpse opens its eyes.
Very much alive, the woman is rushed to the hospital, where with shockingly cool precision, she murders a security guard and seizes hostages . . . one of them a pregnant patient, Jane Rizzoli.
Who is this violent, desperate soul, and what does she want? As the tense hours tick by, Maura joins forces with Jane’s husband, FBI agent Gabriel Dean, to track down the mysterious killer’s identity. When federal agents suddenly appear on the scene, Maura and Gabriel realize that they are dealing with a case that goes far deeper than just an ordinary hostage crisis.
Only Jane, trapped with the armed madwoman, holds the key to the mystery. And only she can solve it–if she survives the night.

This was my first Rizzoli and Isles book and it was great. Action packed full of suspense.
I deliberately didn’t read any of these while the TV show was on. Now I’ll have to go back and read the whole set.
Tess Gerritsen delivers another great read! Her mysteries have twists and turns you don’t ever see coming! The TV series was good, but the books are the true gems of mystery and romance, and they never play out the way you might expect.
I like the characters but the plot didn’t hold my interest.
I enjoyed this book. I like the way the characters find the solution to the problem. I think these 2 are always fun to read about. Author writes the way I like to read.
Once I got started reading this book, I couldn’t put it down.
I ordered another one of this author’s books, and hope to read all of them!
Another great installment in this series.
Love all her books
Another great book. Love this author
Loved it on TV, loved reading it
I love all the Rizzoli and Isles books so my great review is a given.
Love her books. Always fast paced. Great read. This is the kind of book you don’t want to put down.
This book didn’t quite measure up to the previous book in this series.
Partly I think it was because the title didn’t quite line up with the story as well as previous titles did. Body Double, the book before this one, nailed the main plot dead on. This title tied into the main plotline only in the vaguest way.
The blurb on the back also read as …
Well Written!!
The relationships and adventures of Rizzoli and Isles are fun, nothing too serious, but entertaining. There is just enough of everything; suspense, detective work, irony, strange relationships, chemistry, and humour to make it a good overall read.
Good mystery. Enjoyable read
I love this series!
I just like the TV versions better than reading the books.
I stopped reading part-way through. SPOILER ALERT But the baby was OK.
(opinion by Sandra)
A rather gruesome story line, but well written and well told.
