Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles—the inspiration for the hit TNT series—continue their bestselling crime-solving streak. • A blessed event becomes a nightmare for pregnant homicide detective Jane Rizzoli when she finds herself on the wrong side of a hostage crisis in this timely and relentless thriller. A nameless, beautiful woman appears to be just another corpse in the morgue. An apparent … the morgue. An apparent suicide, she lies on a gurney, awaiting the dissecting scalpel of medical examiner Maura Isles. But when Maura unzips the body bag and looks down at the body, she gets the fright of her life. The corpse opens its eyes.
Very much alive, the woman is rushed to the hospital, where with shockingly cool precision, she murders a security guard and seizes hostages . . . one of them a pregnant patient, Jane Rizzoli.
Who is this violent, desperate soul, and what does she want? As the tense hours tick by, Maura joins forces with Jane’s husband, FBI agent Gabriel Dean, to track down the mysterious killer’s identity. When federal agents suddenly appear on the scene, Maura and Gabriel realize that they are dealing with a case that goes far deeper than just an ordinary hostage crisis.
Only Jane, trapped with the armed madwoman, holds the key to the mystery. And only she can solve it–if she survives the night.

This was my _first_ Rissoli and Isles book! I watched the TV show religiously and loved it. The books are grittier! The story is sharp, scientifically and technically much more correct than the show, but the characters are just as wonderful. This will not be my last Tess Gerritson book.
…a good plot and some strange twists make this one of the best Garritsen books I’ve read!
I couldn’t put this book down. First of the Rizzoli and Isles books that I read and I definitely want to read more. Characters are great. The story builds to a very satisfying conclusion. I highly recommend it.
Love these books and this is one of the best Rizzoli and Iles mysteries.
From the first page to the last, the story and, of course, the characters capture the reader and keep you moving. A great read!
This author is one of my favorites, so whatever she writes, I will read and enjoy. Scary character who seems to like to kill. Good read.
I really like her books and this one didn’t disappoint.
I really enjoyed this book. I read it in a day and a half. It is a crackerjack thriller, starting with human trafficking of women across the Mexican border into the USA. There are two threads in the beginning, which merge halfway through the book. The second thread starts with a body in the Boston morgue who is still alive. There is a coverup …
this book is the best book I’ve read so far in my life but Mila is my favorite character and let’s just say Olina was wrong, she is not a scared little rabbit. in the book Mila goes through so many losses first Anja then all the girls plus the mother I wouldn’t count the mother as a loss but then she losses the only thing she had left. Olina and …
I always enjoy her books. Good mysteries. Interesting characters.
A good addition to the series but the ending was a bit abrupt. Still worth the read.
I try to read a different writer of fiction with each read. Vanish by Tess Gerritsen is the best of the lot since the beginning of 2019.
I enjoyed it
Love her books. I couldn’t put it down.
I love all of the Rizzoli and Isles books. This one will keep you on the edge of your seat. The ending will keep you guessing. This is one of those books that will stay with you long after you’ve read it.
Wow! I haven’t read a book this good in a very long time! Incredible! My heart went out to the characters. Ms. Gerritsen is an incredible writer. I LOVED THIS BOOK!
