Vampires Like It Hot by Lynsay Sands is book 28 in the Argeneau series. This is the story of Raffaele Notte and Jessica ‘Jess’ Stewart. This can easily be a standalone book for sure.
Jess is on the Island for a family’s designated wedding. There on the island she gets stuck with a unruly spoiled cousin who ends up getting them on a vampire pirate ship. Raffaele is helping family when they find that there are some immortals using the local humans for ‘food’. They start to investigate when he happens to find Jess in the water. One of the first words she says is vampire so Raffaele knows she run into some but it also starting to look like Jess is his mate. Can he make her see that all vampires aren’t so bad?
I am such a fan of Ms. Sands…she can write no wrong in my book. Her books are always with a great story line, funny and hot.
It’s a series that’s years int he making and STILL Sands manages to keep readers captivated. On vacation with the cousin from hell, Jess realizes that its easier to go along with whatever insane plans she has than to argue. But a “pirate” ship tour to feed sharks starts to get shady when the pirates themselves are out for blood. Because holy crap they’re VAMPIRES! And now Jess has caught the eye of their illustrious captain who claims they’re fated to be together. But how can vampire be real, and here, and controlling all the passengers?! Desperate to escape, Jess decides that jumping in to shark infested waters is worth it to get away from the evil monsters above water.
On shore, Raffaele was enjoying his time with his two cousins vacationing to heal one of their minds form the chaos the Enforcers had been through lately. What he hadn’t planned on was having to rescue a woman from sea who mutters the word “vampire” before passing out in his arms. And to complicate matters when she wakes….fate has one more twist; she’s his life mate. It’s rare enough to find one life mate, but one who already knows and fears immortals is bound to make it harder. But Raffaele can’t abandon her and vows to help her at every turn. As Jess figures out how to get home and get away from the “vampirates”, she begins to fall for the magic touch between her and Raffaele.
Sands keeps every book new and refreshing for each new immortal romance. Having a mortal be the possible lifemate for not just one but TWO immortals? PRICELESS! Your gut will be busting at the antics from the vampirates and the hilarious nicknames that Jess makes for everyone. The hi-jinks, the mix-ups, the push and pull…everything in this book is romantic comedy perfection in a fantasy romance world. And trust me….new readers, don’t be alarmed. You can read this bad boy front to back with NO PREVIOUS READINGS! He’s a standalone and a stand-out!
Ok, I normally do not grab vampire books and I definitely would not step into a book series at number twenty-eight…. But the blurb grabbed me and I clicked to get it. I was very happy and surprised by how much I enjoyed this book!
Jess is trapped in a family destination wedding with her dreaded cousin. After taking a seaquarium trip, her cousin was talked into taking an additional trip to witness shark feeding. The captain has a certain swagger Jess is attracted to, so she agrees to go. Quickly she realizes the pirate ship she is stuck on, is a ship full of blood thirsty vampires! The only feeding going to take place is on the helpless tourists! Jess decides to risk fate, jump ship, and swim for help. Close to shore, nearing exhaustion, she is rescued by a hunky and super hot man, Raffaele.
Raffaele is an immortal and when he rescues a gorgeous human from shark infested waters, he realizes she could be his life mate! When he finds she’s running from other immortals, he tries to help. If she knew what he was, he is certain she would surely freak out. He is left to show her what it would be like to be with him A very strenuous, and complex scenario to navigate.
I really enjoyed this story! It was entertaining, filled with humor, and gave us a bit of suspenseful drama! I loved the characters! Jess and Raffaele clicked quickly! I liked Jess’ use of nicknames for some of characters! Having come into this series so far in, I didn’t know what to expect. The story stood on it’s ow, however, and I never felt like I was in the dark. Overall a good, solid vampire read!
Vampirates and Penisocchio!

The heroine: Jess – at a destination wedding for her cousins in the Dominican Republic. Jess was in charge of making sure her other cousin, the maid of honor and troublemaker of the family was kept in line. Her cousin is selfish and whiny and does whatever she wants, so it isn’t an easy task.
The Hero(es): Raffaele Notte – an immortal who is in charge of helping out his cousin who was taken captive by a rogue immortal and tortured. The cousin is suffering from PTSD so they are in the Dominican Republic for some rest and relaxation.
The Story: Immortals are weakened by the sun and need blood to rejuvenate their energy, so Raffaele finds himself and his companions sitting on the beach under an umbrella when he sees a group of people that have what looks like vampire bites on different places on their bodies. They figure there are more than one rogue immortals feeding on the wedding party and other hotel guests.
Immortals hate the term Vampires though they sometimes use it to describe rogue vampires that feed on humans. Most immortals use bottled blood and only feed on a human in dire circumstances or if they are fated mates. The other difference between Immortals the myth of Vampires is that Immortals are alive and have a soul.
Jess is dragged along on a boat trip to feed sharks by her cousin. She is wary of the Captain and crew dressed as pirates, but her cousin wants Captain Vasko and will not be dissuaded. While out on the boat Jess notices it is starting to get late and wonders how they will be able to see sharks and stays below deck to stay away from the handsome Vasko since he makes her nervous. She sees something she shouldn’t and knows she has to get away especially after Vasko starts talking about Jess being his mate and how he likes her “jugs” and wants to give her a good “rogering”.
I absolutely loved Vasko. He was hilarious and quite a character. He is described as extremely handsome, though his hair was greasy and he could bathe more. He is crude and vulgar but always seems to be in a good mood. I also really enjoyed Raff’s two cousins. It is also kind of funny how immortals can read minds and have no compunction about violating the privacy of others by reading their thoughts whenever they want to find something out.
The narration was fine. The book was dual POV and there was only a male narrator. Raff and his cousins were from Italy, but have lived all over so they have accents. Jess said she couldn’t quite place the accent but to me it sounded a bit too much like Count Chocula. However, it didn’t bother me too much and I was able to get in to the story very quickly.
Loved the story! It was refreshing not to have mad scientists or murdering rogues.
Very good book.
This is the next book in the series, and like the one before it, I devoured this one in a single sitting. After finishing it, I was desperate for more of the group I had fallen for. I often find authors make us wait for the favorite characters to get their stories, but such was not the case with this series. Although I am desperate to see how all the stories play out, I was most interested in seeing on how this couple plays out.
This is a well-written, entertaining, steamy paranormal romance written with Ms. Sands’ classic humor and wit. It is an excellent addition to the Argeneau series, with a new twist on life mates, and is the perfect staycation read.
Brilliant with humorous aspects HEA
This is one of my favorite books of the Argeneau Immortal series. Humorous, good story line. Strong characters that I feel in love them even the Villain!
This is the twenty eighth book in the Argeneau series and we get to see Raffaele Notte and Jess come together in a very interesting way. I just really enjoyed this story. It just drew me in and I just couldn’t put it down until I turned the last page and I immediately wanted more. This book just had so much going for it and I just loved getting to meet the new characters as well as getting to visit with some older one’s that we have already met. I can’t wait to see what’s next from this author.
I loved it, but that is not surprising. I love all the books in this series. I honestly hope it never ends!!
This time though, there really was quite a twist to things.
Jess is a possible life mate to TWO immortals! Wow.
I have to say Jess was brave and very trusting. And her thoughts were crazy.
there is some humor.
We don’t see quite as much detail on certain areas that we usually do in some of the other books, but it did not disappoint at all.
*I’m already excited for the next book
I received my copy from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review
I have read every single story in the Argeneau series and have loved every single one of them. Although I really liked this story between Raffaelle and Jess as well, there was a little part in the beginning that kind of threw me off for a bit. And since it wasn’t mentioned in the blurb I think what I’m about to tell you is a spoiler. So if you don’t want to read a spoiler stop reading now. But know that I still really enjoyed this story.

*Spoiler alert*
This was unusual and a first in the Argeneau series. Jess had two possible life mates. I know! I was totally shocked! So since the blurb mentions Raffaelle you assume she’ll choose him but I actually kind of felt sorry for the other immortal who was her possible life mate and hope that he’ll end up with a story too one day. He was actually kind of the comic relief in the story. His character was pretty funny.
I love Lyndsay Sands.
has continued the fun of the series
Love this author. Her books have it all and came make you laugh
I’ve been a fan of this series since I discovered it ages ago, and author Lyndsay Sands has yet to let me down. In fact, I think my favorite part about Sands as an author is her consistency. I’ve yet to read a novel in this series that feels “phoned in.”
Additionally, the sheer span of this series has allowed readers to become fully immersed in the world existing between the pages. The “origin story” of these Immortals (DON’T call them Vampires!” is just believable enough to allow readers to easily suspend disbelief of the entire series revolving around a family of immortals.
The premise of each book is essentially the same: 1: Immortal encounters potential lifemate at the most inconvenient possible time. 2: Immortal must convince potential lifemate that both Immortals and lifemate actually exist. 3: Immortal must woo lifemate.
Of course, these tasks wouldn’t be entertaining enough all on their own. No, they must be accomplished while evading, outsmarting, outfighting and generally surviving “rouge” Immortals in ridiculous, hilarious situations. This particular novel has the potential lifemate on the run from “Vampirates” witch is just what it sounds like. Yup. Vampire Pirates. These situations are the only time where you actually feel like Sands has “jumped the shark” (pirate pun intended) but they are so much fun it doesn’t matter. Besides, who cares. These books aren’t exactly “War and Peace” and they aren’t meant to be. They are paranormal romance and they are awesome. I highly recommend them. Though each book can stand alone if you start at the begining and read them in order you get the whole story and it’s so much more fun!
Another Great read. Book 28 in series and Ms Sands is still giving us fresh new stories. I especially liked this one, since she returns to a lighter tone.
I like all of the books by this author.
I always enjoy returning to the world of immortals with the Argeneau’s and Notte’s, etc. It’s great to get lost in them.
Raffaele is thoughtful and sweet. And Jess is a thinker, planner. She’s independent and caring. Together they are . They are completely overthinking everything to protect each other.
And Vasco and gang! Loved the storyline behind them!
Another great book!
