It’s been a long time since I’ve been driven to dive into one book after another in a series. Legion of Angels hooked me with the first book, Vampire’s Kiss, and I couldn’t stop until I read them all. Now I’m left waiting for the next installment to come.
This series does have some similarities to the Guild Hunters, but their are enough differences and unique qualities to make this something new and appealing.
In Vampire’s Kiss we are introduced to the world, to Leda, the Legion of Angel’s, and so much more. Their is quit a lot to wrap your mind around and digest in this first installment.
War has been raging; between demons and angels. This war destroyed the world and now everyone has to live behind a protective wall or the monsters in the Black Plains created by demons and gods will get them.
Leda is a bounty hunter. Her family is not a family by blood, but a family by choose. They stick together and look out for each other, so when one goes missing. Leda makes a choice that will change her life.
The Legion of Angel’s are an elite law enforcement agency. Those that join do not leave. It’s a life long services and the higher up you get in the ranks the more powers you are giving. The training is grueling and brutal. Their are several levels; before you become an angel or an archangel. To get leveled up you have to first servive the training and then the ceremony that grants you powers.
Leda is a kick ass character. I liked her loyalty and love for her foster family. She puts herself through a lot to try and save her brother. The training in the Legion of Angel’s is demanding, but she’s determined and stubborn and I like that about her. Besides all the training, she actually gets to go on a case and investigate. I will say I had fun with Leda and I liked her standing up to Nero, the angel.
Their is a little love triangle in Vampire’s Kiss. Two men take an interest in Leda and they approach her in different ways. Leda dose make decisions that lead one or the other on and with that it bumped my liking of her down a notch. I’m not a fan of love triangles, but I will say by the ending things are leaning more towards one.
Now, their is one thing I didn’t care for. One scene Leda conforms to peer pressure. Everyone in the Legion of Angel’s takes this drug to help unwind and lossen up. I don’t care for the gods nectar being used as a recreational drug, but I guess at some point we all give into peer pressure.
Last, Vampire’s Kiss just ends with no warning that it’s nearing the end. It was more like an ending of a chapter then an ending to a book. With this ending it leaves you wanting to either stop the series or pick up the next book and find out what happens next.
I had a lot of fun reading Vampire’s Kiss. The story captivated and intrigued me. I liked the balance of action and romance. Urban Fantasy readers will enjoy this book.
Rated: 4 Stars
I love this entire series. Definitely a must!
New take
Fast paced and intriguing, this book takes the urban fantasy genre and turns it on its head. Monsters are real, the supernatural are here and a legion of angels rules them all – and demons lurk in the shadows.
Loved it.
The book is great and so are the others following it in this series. It is a book that has the perfect emotional balance and multiple themes that make you feel satisfied and yet longing for the next in the series.
Vampire’s Kissis my first book by Ella Summers, but it really grabbed my attention. It may have something to do with my current Lucifer and Supernatural obsession, but Leda’s beginning held up well on its own, too.
Summary:
Paranormal bounty hunter, Leda Pierce, is used to the simple life. Living on the edge of human civilization and on the border to a land of monsters doesn’t allow for a lavish lifestyle even if her pay was more than modest. But she doesn’t need much, and she has her family. That’s the most important thing. So when a job goes wrong and her brother is kidnapped hours later, Leda determines to do whatever it takes to get him back. Unfortunately, he was probably taken for his magical gifts, and Leda has none of her own to speak of. She has no way to track him, and if she did find him, she’d be outmatched from the start. Her only option is to earn the power needed to save Zane. It’s risky and completely crazy, but becoming a part of the elite supernatural Legion of Angels unit is the only way to be gifted powers from the gods themselves. She just needs to survive long enough to advance in rank. That’s easier said than done when you have a dangerously powerful angel trying to break you, a supernatural conspiracy, and considering the very thing she needs, can kill her just as easily.

I have a fascination for all things gods, angels, and demons, so Vampire’s Kiss was an enjoyable read for me. Ella Summers built a vivid post-apocalyptic world with a definite caste system with Angels serving the Gods at the top. There’s a lot to learn, but I thought the information was given throughout instead of in an overwhelming dump. Leda was a strong heroine. She was loyal, protective, loved hard, and possessed an overabundance of stubborn grit and determination. I liked that she took action and stood up for what she believed was right, even to the angels. The only thing that irritated me about her was that her origins are unknown. It comes down to me being impatient and wanting to know now. It’s apparent she’s special, but I have a feeling we won’t find out how for a couple more books. This book flirts with the possibility of a romance, which I really liked. At my core, I’m a Romance junkie, so I’m always happy to see it included. Nero, Leda’s love interest and an angel hasn’t won me over just yet, though. He’s sexy, smart, alluring, and dangerous, but he can also be cold and calculating. He was hard on Leda, but I think that had a lot to do with his surprise in how she affected him. A relationship between him and Leda would definitely add another layer to the story. Overall, I was caught up in my questions about Leda, continuing to read in hopes I’d find answers. Something big is coming, and I can’t help but be intrigued. That said, not all of the storyline sits well with me. While I am loving reading about Leda conquering challenges and watching her grow stronger, the reasoning behind her decision doesn’t make complete sense to me. Joining the Legion seems like the long con, and not months long, but years. Her brother being gone that long and coming out unscathed if not a completely different person seems implausible. And that was the thing that irked me most because I feel like this issue will just fade into nothing when it’s the sole reason she joined. I enjoyed supporting cast, though. Ivy and Drake, especially. I’m trying to be cautious, though, since initiates drop like flies. I really liked Harker, too until he disappointed me with his decisions and actions. I’m not sure where things will go with him, but forgiveness for me will have to be earned. Leda’s family is close-knit and supportive. They aren’t a family by blood, but by choice and that bond can often be stronger than blood. The story wasn’t boring. There was lots of action, a little sleuthing, and the promise of more danger to come as Leda consumes more nectar. Each book seems like a stage in her magical journey, and I’m looking forward to seeing where she ends up and how increased power affects her.
Leda is tough and scrappy, yet has a sassy charm about her I really got a kick out of. Nero is, or appears to be, by the book-stiff and uncompromising-however, he’s more human than he looks. These two have chemistry in spades and it shows, both on and off the battlefield! The conspiracy plot sounds intriguing, as does the paranormal cast of characters, but I’m more invested in Nero and Leda at this point!
I wasn’t sure what to think when I began this book, but the longer I read, the more I was sucked in! Vampires, werewolves, angels, demons, witches, and magic…total catnip!
I have enjoyed many books written by her.
An alluringly dangerous read!
Leda lives a life that is dangerous but at the same time exciting and interesting. Something happens to her loved one leading to her joining the Legions of Angels in order to help her loved one.
What an breathtaking, wonderful read with a dash of romance. A fantastic read full of danger, humour, action and betrayal. A book about what a loved one will endure and go through in order to save someone. I admire Leda greatly and her determination, her strong will and, yes, even her stubbornness.
Full of supernatural creatures, angels, action, bounty hunters and betrayal.
Perfect for readers of paranormal romance/urban fantasy.
