The Dark Protectors are Back! Vampire Ronan Kayrs wasn’t supposed to survive the savage sacrifice he willingly endured to rid the world of the ultimate evil. He wasn’t supposed to emerge in this time and place, and he sure as hell wasn’t supposed to finally touch the woman who’s haunted his dreams for centuries. Yet here he is, in an era where vampires are hidden, the enemy has grown stronger, … grown stronger, and his mate has no idea of the power she holds.
Dr. Faith Cooper is flummoxed by irrefutable proof that not only do vampires exist . . . they’re hot blooded, able to walk in sunlight, and shockingly sexy. Faith has always depended on science, but the restlessness she feels around this predatory male defies reason. Especially when it grows into a hunger only he can satisfy—that is if they can survive the evil hunting them both.

I initially found this author’s books after the initial Dark Protectors stories had been published, but I have been addicted to everything she has published in the past few years including the Realm Enforcers and Dark Protectors novellas. So even though this is my first full novel in that world, it was very easy to jump in and read Vampire’s Faith as a standalone.
Ronan sacrificed everything when he agreed to be a keystone in the plan to keep the ultimate evil imprisoned, so he never expected to wake up in the 21st century where everything had changed and his fated soul mate was staring him in the face. Of course, Dr. Faith Cooper knows nothing of vampires and doesn’t believe in the concept of soul mates, so Ronan freaks her out more than a little bit. Her mind is wired to believe scientific evidence, and despite seeing the evidence with her own eyes, she still has a very difficult time believing what she is seeing. The off-the-charts attraction she is experiencing is chalked up to a way-too-long dry spell and being presented with one seriously sexy specimen of a male… because that’s all it could be, right?
Ronan’s confusion with the technology of this new world was understandable, and his experiences with Siri, stores, the Internet, and so many other things we take for granted had me giggling as he tried to catch up on hundreds of years of history and advancements. The concept of an independent modern woman boggles him, and it leads to some equally amusing showdowns between him and Faith too as his protective instincts kick into overdrive when she finds herself in danger. The Cyst, a dangerous fanatical sect of a race called the Kurjans, is hunting Ronan to kill him and hasten the release of their leader Ullric who Ronan helped imprison along with six others as a super-secret brotherhood called the Seven. Faith is directly in their crosshairs simply due to her proximity to Ronan, but add in the fact he is convinced she is his mate and the danger level multiplies. The sexy tug of war in their little power struggle heats up quickly, and after a series of frustrating moments, those sparks finally lead to some serious combustion!
I have to admit Faith was a source of frustration to me as well as Ronan. For an intelligent and educated woman, she demonstrated the ability to make the most absolutely stupid decisions possible even after she came to accept the reality of Ronan and the world she previously knew nothing about. Her life has been all about taking care of her younger sister Grace since the death of their parents, and when Grace fell into a coma she dedicated her life to finding a way to help her. Discovering that Grace may be an important part of the future throws her off balance, and saving her sister’s life takes on a whole new level of urgency that drives her to make those questionable choices.
There are plenty of familiar faces for those who love the original Dark Protectors series, and I am loving the new faces introduced as Ronan’s brothers of the Seven as well! Benny, Iver and Adare are intriguing with the promise of fascinating backstories to be revealed. I had to chuckle at the King Dage’s bewilderment that for once he does not know everything, and I am DEFINITELY looking forward to the story arc that Logan and Garrett are now on. Now I really have to go back and read the first set of books in this series while I count down to the release of the next book!
Vampire’s Faith by Rebecca Zanetti is book 8 in the Dark Protectors series. This is the story of Ronan Kayrs and Dr. Faith Cooper. This is the first book I have read in this series so for me it was easily a standalone book.
Faith is a coma specialist called in when Ronan is found. When Faith exams him she thinks it is a prank because of his medial signs. But Ronan awakes while she is with him and he instantly knows her. Ronan didn’t think he would survive the sacrifice he made but he always saw Faith’s face and knew she would be his mate. But she isn’t so sure of what or who he is.
This was an exciting story that kept me turning the page until I was done. I really want to read the story of Faith’s sister Grace and hope that is next.
