ONE WICKED ROLLERCOASTER!!!
Blindsiding bandit! Kater struggles trying to stay one step ahead and winding up two backwards, bringing out the heavy artillery locked and loaded, wrapping this baby up sleek, shiny and tight. Pushing boundaries and crossing lines, exposing the strengths and weaknesses being weighed and balanced, booting this gem into the eye of the storm, breaking it down, knocking it into overdrive, catapulting it into a hissy with a life-altering culmination. Shenanigans, chaos and mayhem rule the roost displaying the drama, anxiety, intrigue, animosity, danger, mounting suspense and intense situations along with a boatload of underlying threats, you have one jaw dropping adventure. Bearing the burdens and defeating foes presenting this action packed, hard hitting, pulse racing, heart pounding, adrenaline pumping, page flipping, block busting page flipping bombshell, blasting this baby to life beautifully. The characters are complex and genuine with traits and qualities that add depth and realism, blend and flow transforming into relatable personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and descriptions that feel as though you were transported to ground zero with them. Remarkable job Kater, thanks for sharing this lil’ fella with us.
The third book in the Kit Melbourne series is just as fantastic as the first two. Some time has passed between the second and third book, and Kit is now a Dayrunner for the leader of The Guild, a vampire run group. Now dating Fain, the sexy vampire who helped her in Dryad’s Blade, Kit still loves and longs for Fenwick, her ex. Unfortunately, because of the sacrifices Kit made to save his life, Fenwick has no recollection of their love. Sigh.
After several attempts on her life are made, Kit knows her life is in danger again, and she struggles to protect herself and her boss while dealing with the grief of her lost love and the ever-growing hunger of her vampire lover.
One aspect of the book that I really liked was the overarching prophecy. At the start of book one, Kit’s brother reads her tea leaves and makes several predictions about her life, including an attempt on it. Though those predictions seemingly came true in the first book, one could argue that one prophecy came true in each book, with the final prophecy (about the attempt on her life) coming to fruition in Vampire’s Dayrunner. The depth of development and the utilization of overarching themes and events contribute to the skillful complexity of the story-line.
In addition to a well-developed story-line, the characters continue to grow as well. Kit continues to show her selflessness and determination, but in this book, she also seemed a bit more mature. She is more self-aware, she is taking better care of herself, she has a stable, if dangerous, job, and she has chosen (some) better friends. I like Kit’s character arch and her realistic and flawed character.
I also want to mention the love story, which is a large part of all three stories in the series. Kit and Fenwick are soul mates if only he would remember it. It was heart-breaking to read of Kit’s loss and to see Fenwick moving on. However, as the story progressed, it was clear that their story wasn’t finished. I very much enjoyed watching their story unfold and look forward to seeing more of them in future books.
This is a fabulous urban fantasy series with a strong and likable protagonist (minus her penchant for dog biscuits – so gross!), a great love story, and an epic, action-packed plot. I can’t wait to read the fourth book in the Kit Melbourne series so I can find out what Kit, Fenwick, and her other friends get mixed up in next!
Thanks again to Kater Cheek for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
Will her new powers save her? Kit’s new job as the vampire dayrunner exposes her to a lot of people, good and bad. Someone is trying to kill her. And she has to be around Fenwick and his jealous fiancée and she is heartbroken. Fain is becoming possessed with wanting her blood and almost kills her. What is going on? And everyone keeps saying she is fae but she is human, isn’t she? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review
In the third book of “Kit Melbourne” Series “Vampire’s Dayrunner”, we found Kit torn out between her new relationship with a vampire… yes that vampire for those of you who follows the series in chronological order, the newbies will just have to found out and her ex.
Kit Melbourne is one of the most likeable main characters in the genre and has evolved enormously in the course of this series. In this third installment Kit has fully come into her powers, familiar inclusive. Torn between stopping a killer on the loose threaten the lives of her loved ones, trying to impress the new BF “family” and fending off her boyfriend drinking issues, Kit really has her hands full, thus as her ex reappears with a vengeance, she is just about to cross the line with unfathomable consequences.
As always Kater Cheek storytelling is impeccable, fluid, flesh and endearing, blending action and description elements into a fast-paced action-packed tale that combines different side lines into a thoroughly satisfying main plot. With wonderful characters, a great urban fantasy verse and credible plots, this series is quickly becoming one of the top 10 best urban fantasy series of the moment.
Each book in this series is fabulous and this one is right on par too. You can’t help but love the character of Kit who seems so vulnerable and human yet has powers and is a kick-ass dominant woman who knows what she wants. I love how the character questions herself, but we the reader are going or you are more perfect than you think. I think that Kit alone runs strong along with all the storylines of why these books are just terrific. Most books you read, enjoy, and forget, but these books stay indelibly on your memory and make you come back for more.
