Big and bad enough to be any girl’s nightmare—or her best dream ever… become his servant, soul-bound to him for all eternity. Ella is a natural submissive, with an endless desire to please. She’s perfect for the role, really. Except Ella is a gift he doesn’t deserve.
However, vampires are wired one way—to take what they want, no matter what their conscience tells them. Even Wolf isn’t strong enough to resist his nature…or the salvation Ella’s love offers.

We’re back at Club Atlantis.
Home of Mistress Anwyn, Lord Deagan, and their servant Gideon.
Two of their best assets at the club are Wolf, Vampire and Master Dom, and Ella, house submissive Extraordinaire. As much as they both try to deny themselves the truth about their mutual attraction they inexorably gravitate to each other.
Their first personal encounter is a mesmerizing example of the buildup of a D/s scene.
Ella is relentless in her submissive dedication to Wolf and they are humming sensuously toward a full-blooded (pun intended) D/s relationship within strictly defined boundaries.
Until all hell breaks loose…
As all Ms Hill’s books this is another all encompassing sensual delight, peppered with treachery, vampire politics, and heart stopping scenes.
The perfect mixture of love, brutality and poetry
5 Star Review Vampire Master (Vampire Queen #16) by Joey W Hill
This is one of my all time favourite series and I was excited to be given a chance to read an ARC of this book.
Nobody writes characters that need so much work like Joey W Hill. Welcome to Club Atlantis where dreams can and do come true. Wolf is a Master Dom in every way, working at Club Atlantis, he is also a vampire and that is where complications arise.
Elle also works at the club, is naturally submissive and is attracted to Wolf, but he knows that the submissive he claims will become his servant and be bound to him for eternity, as is the vampire way.
Despite all the reasons to stay away from Elle, Wolf is tempted beyond reason. I loved the friendship between Elle and Gideon, he was not only her friend, but he help her understand the vampire way. This story has so many layers, it was like peeling an onion and watching has each layer was revealed.
It was also great to see some of my favourite people from the series make an appearance. Although a stand alone, you may get more enjoyment if you have read the previous books.
I loved this book; Vampire Master was at times a hard and distressing story to read, and although predominately about a BDSM and D/s relationship, to me it was a love story, one of courage, and sheer determination to come from a world of darkness into the light.
The scenes are hot, yet emotional, drawing the reader in so much that you almost feel that you are witnessing it first hand. The road they travel to get to their HEA is long, winding and bumpy, but they do eventually get there.
This book, as expected, was well written and held me captive from the first page to the last. A wonderful addition to one of the best series I have read and I look forward to reading more in this series. 5 Stars all the way.
I want to say first what a amazing book this is. Just wow! Each book in this series is Unique. I just couldn’t stop reading. The Vampire world Joey Hill has created is beyond your imagination. Wolf is first introduced to us in Vampire Soul. And Ella is a submissive that work at Club Atlantis. When they meet their worlds collide. Will Wolf be able to resist his attraction to Ella?
We find who we need
Wow! The author really brought out the best in the characters in this book. She filled the book with emotion and action and the HEA that I am always looking for. These two are meant to be together. Wolf may fight it, but Ella needs the protection of her master. The author did an amazing job of bringing these two together and setting the series up for even more books. I really enjoyed this book, but there are triggers for some readers. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
“He put his arm around her, holding her close, and looked down at her. She made him hurt. She fucking made him hurt in a way he didn’t know how to handle. And he was smiling like an idiot again.”
I loved that quote because at the end of the day and this story, you will be left smiling like an idiot. This story was so much more than I expected. It encompasses the BDSM scene in a way that’s realistic and not just what someone thinks it is; and throws in the supernatural aspect with the kinky vampire. I felt every emotion from the characters and I loved Ella. I was so engrossed in the story that it took me several minutes to “awaken” after I finished reading because I felt disoriented and like I was actually there. I have become a Joey W. Hill fan for life if this is how all her stories are written. I am actually sad I hadn’t picked up one of her books before now.
A sensual masterpiece that brings you back into the heart of Club Atlantis. Vampire Master has a little splash of something for every reader; the D/s club atmosphere, returning character fan favorites (or maybe they are just mine), high stakes romance, a bad guy to flush out, and two people who fall in love against all odds.
There was so much to love about this new addition to Joey Hill’s Vampire Queen series and finding the best place to begin is both easy and difficult. This book is massive, 662 pages! So while I would say this could be read as a standalone because Joey did a phenomenal job describing past events, I do think the two books that would enhance this particular book are, Vampire Mistress and Vampire Trinity (Together they reach just over 790 pages, so for one book you know you are getting a gorgeous story). Both of those go together, read like a duet, and contain the story of vampire hunter Gideon Green, vampire master Daegan Rei along with the Club Atlantis owner Anwyn. These three characters all play integral parts in Vampire Master, especially Gideon. His story, in particular drives the duet and in turn he is a good friend and confidant to Ella in this book.
Ella works at Club Atlantis, but that is just one of her many jobs. She keeps herself busy as a waitress, a courier, a masseuse, just to name a few. Ella sleeps very little because she hates having down time, but also at her core she is extremely gracious and very subservient. She will make a Dom very happy someday. She knows deep down whom she’d like that Dom to be, but she also knows it will probably never happen. Wolf has never made an advance to her, so she knows it would be a long shot.
Wolf works at Club Atlantis as a Master Dom. He not only teaches public scenes, he also helps with PTSD members in private. Wolf is an alpha extraordinaire. He’s never gotten close to Ella, other than having her help in a public scene, because he knows she’s a tempting treat he would not be able to give her up. Ella is more than ordinary, she is extraordinary. Her sub nature calls to his alpha nature is a big way, which is exactly why he stays away. He’s already lost everything once, he couldn’t live with himself to lose everything twice and yet his very nature only allows him to live with his mistakes.
As a vampire, Wolf’s very need is to live. As the top of the food chain his bloodlust makes sure that he craves dominating humans so that he never goes hungry. A subservient human is like throwing crack at a vampire. You only want more until you’ve taken all you can, luckily for Wolf, he’s had a lot of years to work up his tolerance and a lot of self loathing helps. Ella makes it really hard to stay away, especially given her propensity to head into danger. She’s like a magnet for dangerous situations and it isn’t long before leaving her side is almost impossible, his self loathing be damned.
Ella has only ever wanted love. Growing up in a foster home she doesn’t know what real love is, but even when Wolf offers up a temporary arrangement, she is willing to take it. Nothing in her life has ever been permanent and she knows things are fleeting, she’d rather have a little bit of good than a lot of nothing. Her open naivety is refreshing. She never pushes Wolf or manipulates him into something he isn’t ready for. Instead she seeks out answers to questions and is inquisitive about the vampire world (hence my deep affection for Gideon continues as he tries to protect and mentor her in his best Gideon way possible). She’s willing to walk away when Wolf is ready to go, but will he really be ready to let her go?
This entire book was a great addition to the Club Atlantis world along with being highly insightful to the vampire world Joey Hill has created. If you love this genre, and more importantly Joey’s books, then I believe you will love this book!
This book made me so happy. Elle has been a favorite secondary character in this series for quite some time and now we get to know her and her story and maybe just maybe the little pixie can tame the big bad Wolf. Wolf is a fairly new character but he was intriguing as he is the silent type. I was fascinated by the idea of him doing BDSM therapy and was really glad when he explained the Daddy/little kink so it wasn’t as creepy as I thought it would be. Once again Joey W. Hill has done a masterful job of entertaining and informing us about BDSM. I love this series and was thrilled to see some favorite characters from previous books but you can read this standalone.
There are few authors that I feel guarantee an awesome read. Joey Hill is one of these authors for me. I’m not always fully invested in her books but I know that each story is full and complete. Vampire Master is everything I love about reading Joey Hill. Ella and Wolf are characters that pulled me into their story and had me turning the pages, all the pages, until the very end. It was wonderful to revisit with some characters from previous books. I’m very much looking forward to catching up on the books I’ve missed in this series.
First off this book can be read as a stand alone but I think some of the characters and background from ‘Vampire Mistress’ and ‘Vampire Trinity’ will add even more depth to this book.
Wolf is a made vampire less than a hundred years old but respected in the vampire community. He’s a lone wolf, who still suffers trauma from his time in Vietnam and the loss of his family. He has no intension of taking a servant, but Ella calls to him like no other.
Ella is almost the perfect submissive, but her giving and submissive nature often lands her in trouble. She’s wanted Wolf since she first laid eyes on him but knows he’s not for her.
Wolf keeps being drawn to Ella and she gives him everything he asks while trying to keep it real but these guys burn up the pages with their heat.
It can be frustrating at times watching Wolf give Ella conflicting messages but you can see it’s because he’s so conflicted himself. I could feel their pain and their passion, and it gave me shivers at times.
When danger comes to Atlantis almost killing them, Wolf end’s up giving her the second mark, tying them even closer even as he still tries to keep his distance. But Ella is his perfect match and they find their way even as a dangerous turn of events could end them before they get started.
There’s a lot going on in this book, not only Wolf and Ella’s story but groundwork for future books and dangerous and new threats to the vampire community. Hill has this amazing ability to bring you into her world and make you feel part of it, I can’t wait to see where the next story is going to go.

There are also heavy BDSM scenes, sexual assault and other scenes that may be difficult for sensitive readers.
I voluntarily received this book for an honest review. First off this book can be read as a stand alone but I think some of the characters and background from ‘Vampire Mistress’ and ‘Vampire Trinity’ will add even more depth to this book.

Another stunning, complex and deeply sensual book from the gifted pen of Joey W Hill which has left me breathless and with a truly severe book hangover. In Vampire Master we are back in the realm of Club Atlantis and I am just delighted to be there as Joey continues to explore the intricacies of D/s relationships, but, more than that, the complexities of friendships and of the heart.
Written with her trademark compassion, empathy and awareness, Joey weaves her magic as we are drawn into the lives of Ella and Wolf. And, my goodness, what wonderfully fleshed out characters they are. Ella, so beautiful, kind, thoughtful, selfless; just gorgeous through and through, with layers of character that have you engaging with her and wanting the very best for her.
And Wolf, well, he’s just it. Just everything. Fascinating, deep, sensual, thoughtful, tough, masterful, caring, enigmatic. Both highly intelligent, with experiences which have shaped their lives and left scars.
This is yet another of Joey’s books which will linger, keep my mind mulling over beautifully constructed descriptions, enthralled that an author can take such potentially well trodden paths and bring to them a uniqueness and quality which is all her own. This book is pure gold and I have loved every single well chosen word. 5 stars are just not enough.
VAMPIRE MASTER: Vampire Queen Series, Club Atlantis by Joey W Hill
The one big drawback with ordering Kindle books to read on my iPhone is that if I don’t read them within a couple of days of ordering, I forget I have them and they disappear from the screen…which is why it’s taken me so long to get to Vampire Master, from the Vampire Queen Series, Club Atlantis. I usually don’t wait this long—Joey W. Hill has been a favorite author of mine since I read an early book of hers called Guardian of the Continuum back in 2003. It was—and still is—an amazing tale, and when Joey released the first Vampire Queen book in 2007, The Vampire Queen’s Servant, I found my new most favorite author. She has remained a favorite for all these years, and, as with all her Vampire Queen books, I could not put Vampire Master down. Plus, when I read the teaser at the end of the story, introducing the very first book in the series, The Vampire Queen’s Servant, I had to read that one again, which means I’m now reading The Mark of the Vampire Queen, which is the next one. All this is an explanation as to why it’s taken me a while to get this review up for a truly wonderful book, but I’m taking a break. I just don’t have time right now to reread the entire series, though that’s obviously where I’m headed.
(Disclaimer: I’m sitting here in my office with five new, unread hardbacks by favorite authors that have recently arrived in the mail. Haven’t even looked at them since starting back into the Vampire Queen stories) This book was so good, and as always, Hill’s characters are so fully formed and well-rounded that you feel as if you know them intimately by the time the story ends. Ella is a beautiful young submissive on the staff at Club Atlantis, a high end BDSM club where Ella is a popular part of the regular human crew. She is unaware that Mistress Anwyn, the club’s owner, is a vampire. Nor does she realize that the man she’s been lusting after, Wolf, is a vampire as well. Wolf and Ella have their own unique sets of baggage, and watching the way Hill brings them together in spite of the danger and untold risks associated with the vampire world is truly a study in the art of writing a sensitive romance within a potentially devastating plot.
If you like beautifully written books with characters you can’t help but love, and if a touch of paranormal makes your heart beat a bit faster, I can assure you that you will love this book. Joey W. Hill’s writing is truly an art form. Five stars aren’t nearly enough.
Let me start with saying that reading Vampire Master is an experience, and at over 600 pages, make sure you carve out enough time to enjoy and process and appreciate, because the characters are so nuanced, the story so layered, and the motivations so slowly revealed, that to do anything else would be a disservice.
I think Ella might be one of my favorite heroines to date, and I’ve been reading romance for nearly two decades. Her strength and determination and optimism are undeniable, but she wants to be loved so badly that I ached for her. She’s been passed over by others, putting her whole self into a relationship and getting less than 100% back. Then comes Wolf.
Ella is drawn to the darkness and mysteriousness that is Wolf and it brings her service submissive side to the forefront. But being Wolf’s sub isn’t for the faint of heart and comes with…certain stipulations.
I have to say that I had a love/hate relationship with Wolf. He was alpha/Dominant to a tee, and he truly cared and exceeded my expectations sometimes, and yet he fell short so often with Ella.
And yet…
It says something about how layered and complicated and well-drawn Hill’s characters are that I was pulled to Wolf anyway. Just like Ella. The intimacy was so perfectly done and so hot it blistered. There’s predator/prey, Master/sub, Daddy/little all at play here, but it works so well. It’s a foray into BDSM that completely takes over and shines through, and it was remarkable to watch how it was integrated into everyone’s story line.
I had a lot of feelings, and that’s the key word here. So many feelings. I cried for each of them, rooted for each of them. It’s a slow awakening and insight into what makes us deserving of love and how our perceptions of ourselves influence that worth.
Be aware there are content notes for violence and sexual assault.
This was my first Joey W. Hill novel, but it won’t be my last. I’m not going to forget these characters any time soon. Same with the numerous side characters. There are a lot of flash backs and we get more POVs than Ella and Wolf. But I was immersed in every story.
Highly recommend for erotic paranormal readers who want a full BDSM vibe that resonates.
