Is it love or addiction?Seventeen-year-old Gertrude Morgan, the only child of one of the wealthiest couples in America, is shipped away from her home in New York City to the American school in Athens against her will. But the city of Athens has secrets. Her host family calls them “tramps.” In Greek, they are called vrykolakas, or “vryks,” which sometimes gets translated to “freaks.” They are the … gets translated to “freaks.” They are the vampires of Athens, created centuries ago by the Maenads. They live in caves beneath the acropolis without economic resources and according to rules imposed on them by the Olympians. First and foremost, they are forbidden from turning humans into vampires. The human will not turn unless all of the blood is drained, so a vampire is allowed to drink up to one pint per month from a willing mortal.
Some mortals are willing because a vampire bite will infect the body for six hours, and during that time, the mortal has the powers of the vampire: flight, invisibility, strength, speed, x-ray vision, and mind control. Such great power can become irresistible, though dangerous and addicting to mortals…
As seventeen-year-old Gertie, studying abroad from New York, uncovers the unfathomable secrets of this ancient city, she becomes involved with a handsome vampire. Is it love that attracts her, or the temporary powers from his bite? She’s more confused when her heart is drawn to the vampire’s enemy–a demigod sworn to protect the city–and she becomes an unwitting catalyst to war.

“Fantastic book with more substance and vividness than most books in this genre. The portraying of the characters is Multi faceted as every real person is, complete with pro and cons and this is exceptionally well done. . . .These characters becomes living and very vivid, In the readers mind. I don’t like the author’s writing style. I thought it was choppy and the manner of conversation was unrealistic. I thought the plot was predictable yet it was also unbelievable.
Was very easy to get lost in. A book that I like to read, I fall into the book and feel like I’m actually their and see what is actually happening.
great book starts out slow at the beggining to build up the story but once its going damb this books good.
This book is really not very good. It is unbelievable from the beginning. It was a DNF for me.
i like this book,its awesome. i never read a book like THIS…
thanks to bookbub for giving me this book.
It was ok but for me the story line was too basic there wasn’t much description of events almost like too much happened to quickly. I would say if your a novice reader who likes a fast paced book with little suspense then you may like it but I read a lot so I like it to be a little drawn out and suspenseful. Also the love interests in the book were kind of predictable but I don’t really mind that but I know others might.
Love love love! One of my favorite books that I’ve read lately.
A little too underdeveloped, story line and characters both. A bookish teen suddenly embracing adventure and falling for the first guy to talk to her.
Left you hanging. Reminds me of an old-fashioned movie serial where the hero is left hanging from a cliff until the next installment.
Loved it
Great book
It kind of reminded me of Twilight, but with Greek gods instead of werewolves, which was pretty cool. It was definitely an easy read, but it made me want more. I was addicted to this book, and finished it in a day. Really fun and adventurous.
I think this book is ok. This is the 1st book in a series and I have to say it didn’t make me want to read the next book. I have a problem with repetitiveness, and I feel the main character is very repetitive. Like she never learns her lesson. Her actions bore me. I did like the mixture of Greek Mythology and Vampires. I would rather learn more about the relationships there then the main story. But if you don’t mind repetitiveness then this book is for you.
This book was very good. It was very interesting to read how Greek mythology was intertwined with the fictional magic of vampires. Definitely recommend
Did not like this book.
I was a little disappointed in the heroine’s choices that resulted in such a bad outcome for her and the other members of the family.
Was very hard to get into.
The female character was just dumb ! Did the opposite of everything she was told not to do and not in a cute funny way. Just a dumb way
Awful
I liked the setting in Greece. I really wanted to like this book but I thought the main character was a selfish, self-centered brat. Then she made the wrong choice in guys and you lost me.
