“We can’t fight evolution, only ride it out and hope the ending is in our favor.” Ryder Mattis As a former Navy Seal, beating the odds is something Ryder excels at. However, the world has changed and his transformation into a vampire gives survival a whole new meaning. If that isn’t enough to ruin his life, a plague unleashes utter destruction on humanity. He knows he has what it takes to protect … takes to protect those who survive even if they don’t like his rules. What he doesn’t count on is a female with stormy eyes and a will to live getting under his skin.
Kayla has lost everyone she loves to the red death. Surviving the plague is one thing, but a vow made to her dying father puts her under the protection of a predator. Surprised at how her body reacts to Ryder when he feeds, she has a hard choice to make. But when tragedy strikes and forces the vampire to give her his blood, she morphs into something no one could ever predict.
The new world doesn’t come with a handbook and when fate brands them as potential mates, they are not prepared. They can either battle each other, or band together in a fight for survival. The future holds no guarantees, but being alone might be worse than death.

Ryder is an ex-seal and a primordial vampire, which is a good combination when trying to deal with the devastation of the world. This devastation was caused by Morbus a demon, resulting in the the Red Death. Kayla is one of a few survivors of this plague and results in her being a hybrid of sorts. This storyline is different from most vampire/post apocalyptic stories and very interesting and attention holding. The characters are extremely well developed and are vibrant and vivid. Very good read!

A must read from this genre. I volunteered to read an advance copy for an honest review.
A book with shifters, vampires, angels, and demons already has a leg up but the way this book was written is fantastic. The post apocalyptic created a great survival of the fittest world. The chemistry between Ryder and Kayla is off the charts hot and make for a steamy read.

Kayla
This was an amazing book. Although this is a spin off from the Eternal Mates series, it’s not necessary to read that first. But I do highly recommend it. A paranormal romance/post apocalyptic read full of surprises. Few have survived the Red Death. As one of the first made vampires, Ryder is doing what he can to save what is left of humanity. It’s a hefty responsibility. Kayla is the only surviving member of her family. She promised her father she would go to Ryder for protection. When the two work together, they are a powerful force. The book will hook you from the very first page. Full of action, suspense and a touch of humor. Plus whole lot of heat between our main couple. The secondary characters were great. There was also a couple of appearances from some of our favorite Angels. I can’t wait to see where the series goes next.

Ryder is doing his best to cope with trying to keep the surviving humans and his vampire brethren alive in a world that has turned upside down. He was one of the first vampires created by Aresenia when she was resurrected and that makes him stronger and with a few more bells and whistles than any of the other sired vampires by him or any others. Everyday he learns something new and that is not always a good thing.
Kayla is now alone in the world after burying her father her last living relative who succumbed to the red death. Her safety is now in jeopardy and she promised her father she would connect with Ryder one of his men when he was in the military to help take care of her.
Kayla and Ryder’s first meeting was not love at first site. Kayla is a strong woman used to taking care of herself and Ryder is used to his orders being followed without question. He pushes she pulls into herself. They thankfully move on from this after a bit and start getting to know each other.
On their way to a hopeful sanctuary they are attacked and Kayla is injured and Ryder has to give her some of his vampire blood to survive. This blood exchange creates and even tighter bond between them and causes changes in them both. They fight their chemistry as a relationship was nowhere on the radar for either of them. However fate intervenes and they must make a decision to join forces or fight each other along with all of the surprises being thrown at them.
The book moves along at a fast clip and the action is almost non-stop. We get to know Kayla and Ryder and some of the other members of the group. The banter between the other vampires and Ryder is pretty great. The heat between Kayla and Ryder builds along with their connection to each other. Some areas could have been fleshed out more but on the whole a great start to this series.
