Chloe,Gavin, and Devin were friends for years. Senior year Chloe dates the wrong brother and tragedy happens. Chloe leaves to go to college and doesn’t go home for four years. Her parents ask her to go home and she has to face her past. Great characters and storyline. Highly recommended. This book touched upon being bullied and the people who help you through. Amazing book
This book has it all – friendship, first love, heartache, loss, regret, and second chances. I knew from the moment I read the synopsis that I had to read Up in the Treehouse, and it stole my heart right from the very first page. This is a story about three best friends. On one side of the woods, we have twin brothers, Gavin and Devon- polar opposites, but both equally captivating. On the other, there’s Chloe, a young girl in desperate need of the friendship and support these boys offer her, both in their unique way.
I loved Gavin and Chloe’s story. It was a heartbreaking journey if not an emotional one. The loss they both suffered, both externally and within their own relationship, tore my heart in two and I ached for that one line that would tell me that they could finally put the past behind them and begin to heal. I’m not normally a fan of such frequent flashbacks, but I have to say that K.K. Allen did the flashbacks in this story beautifully and allows us to really get to know these characters on a much deeper level and really understand the heartache and internal struggles they were experiencing.
I can’t say enough good things about this book. It’s filled with everything a good book should have: strong main characters, a story line that keeps your attention throughout, romance, heartbreak, and some plot twists that I didn’t see coming.
I did like this book for the most part. Especially all the chapters that take place in the past when Chloe, Gavin, and Devin were kids. This was the part of the book I loved the most. I got enjoyment out of the chapters that highlight Chloe’s journal entries when she’s being completely honest with herself.
I gave the story 3 stars because as much I loved seeing Gavin and Chloe reuniting and rebuilding their relationship. I was a little annoyed by it as well. I won’t go into detail, but I was hoping for a little more or expecting something a little different. I think K.K. Allen is a beautiful writer and I can’t wait to read her other books.
Up in the Tree house was my first book by K.K Allen and I am sure it won’t be my last.
Chloe Rivers first meets twin boys Gavin and Devon when they move in next door to Chloe and they all became childhood friends. The tree house was somewhere they spent all their time and it later held so many heartwarming and heartbreaking memories. Gavin was Chloe’s protector while Devon was a bit of a loose cannon especially when they reached high school age. They were a close group of friends with a strong bond until things began to change and Chloe started dating Devon in high-school.
Later in the story there is an accident of sorts and something traumatic happens that has Chloe fleeing and moving away. Without adding spoilers the story then moves to Chloe’s return 4 years later.
There is so much heartwarming moments in this book and angst that I didn’t expect.
A story about love and loss, friendships, trust, forgiveness, regrets, healing of hearts and mostly second chances, UP IN THE TREE HOUSE is a journey.
A beautiful story that I really enjoyed. I listened to this on audio and could not wait to return back to it after each time I had to put it down. This is definitely a Sunday read, one of those books were you lock yourself away on your day off and just immerse the story and enjoy.
TOLD IN FIRST PERSON POV AND LEADS TO HEA. AVAILABLE IN KU AND AUDIO.
I honestly could not put this book down. As soon as I started reading the first few lines, that was it, I was completely immersed in Up In The Tree House. I literally stayed up all night and finished this book. This is one of those books you seriously have to carve out a day to yourself, start early, and just read. I promise you, you will not be able to close your e-reader for any obligations. Just a fair warning 😉
I have never read a book that has held my attention, kept me reading all throughout the night, and into the early hours of the morning just to finish it. I can’t stress enough how incredible this book is. Up In The Tree House is my first book by K.K. Allen and I have a feeling it won’t be my last. This book had everything in it – romance, angst, heartbreak, secrets, tumultuous relationships. When a reader says “all the feels,” that’s exactly what you get from this book. Five stars doesn’t even seem adequate enough for this phenomenal story.
If you haven’t read this book yet, go and one click it now. It’s one of the most astounding new adult romances I’ve ever read. K.K. Allen is a remarkable writer with such talent. I look forward to reading Under The Bleachers and any other new release she has in the upcoming future.
Up in the Treehouse by K.K. Allen is a contemporary, friends to lovers, new adult romance told in dual point of view and moving back and forth between the past and the present.
“The best kind of love is one that stems from friendship. One that grows as it’s nurtured with patience and kindness, blossoming at just the right time. All it has to do is withstand the forces of nature that threaten to drown it, pluck it, blow it, and burn it until it whithers back into its soil. as if it never existed at all.”
The story follows Chloe and her relationship with her childhood friends, the twins, Gavin and Devon. Bullying is a key theme addressed. This angst-filled tale is an emotional roller coaster of tragedy, guilt, misunderstandings, secrets, and falsehoods.
“People can change for the better, but no one can make the decision to change but them. Sometimes the tornadoes of life vacuum us up and chuck us onto unfamiliar ground. We can work toward building a sturdier foundation or let the dirt settle over us in defeat.”
The writing is beautiful, captivating, and thought-provoking. I found myself highlighting several passages as I read. I love an angsty story, so I really enjoyed this and would recommend it to fellow angst lovers.
Wow. I don’t even know where to start with Up in the Treehouse. This book is absolutely wonderful! Gavin is a swoon-worthy book boyfriend. Oh, and I have dibs. Let’s just get that out of the way now. He has such a big heart and isn’t afraid to make the right decision, even when it’s not the easy one. The relationship between Gavin and Chloe is filled with angst and difficulties, which K.K. Allen did an amazing job at writing. Allen pulled at my heartstrings and had me tearing up throughout Gavin and Chloe’s story.
Up in The Treehouse is hard to categorize. It is a bit of a triangle, a bit of a second chance, and also a bit of an epic love story spanning years as the characters meet and fall in love in the branches of a childhood treehouse. There is also a bit of mystery as the story unravels and is woven back together. I enjoyed the story and the audiobook listening experience, but at times felt like the characters didn’t grow up and they continued to act childish and make childish decisions into their adulthood. That took me out of the story and I felt a disconnect from the characters. My rating is 3.5 stars.
Found the plot to be a little implausible.
