Firefighting encompasses everything for Penn Griffin-his job, his family, and his friends. When a hurricane roars toward San Amaro Island, Penn is called on a rescue and ends up face-to-face with Nadia, the gorgeous but frustrating woman he went on one interrupted date with. He cut ties with her months earlier after experiencing firsthand how all-consuming her career is. Now, in one fell swoop, … swoop, she’s altered his life irrevocably.
Nadia Hamlin eats, sleeps, and breathes her job as a vice-president at her family’s beachside hotel. It’s the only thing she’s ever known, and her past and her future are tied up in the business. As the storm approaches the island, she thinks nothing of making a last-minute stop at the hotel on the way out of town-until it’s too late. Now, a man is injured, a man she cares about, a man who already hates her. Thanks to her careless decision, his beloved career is over.
Nadia wants nothing more than to make it up to him. Penn wants nothing to do with her or her well-meaning attempts to “help.” But the attraction that once sparked between them isn’t easily extinguished, and Nadia soon knows she wants more than her career-she wants a second chance with Penn. Can he find a way past his anger and self-loathing toward forgiveness and love and a future with Nadia?
Up in Flames is a stand-alone novel in the Island Fire series.

I received a free copy of Up in Flames Island Fire book 6 by Amy Knupp and this review was given freely.
A perfect love is in bloom spring romance. This second chance at love romance features Faith’s workaholic friend Nadia and Faith’s coworker, firefighter Penn. The novel opens dramatically with Penn getting hurt while trying to rescue Nadia as she is leaving her family hotel in the middle of a hurricane. Personal and work related changes as well as love occur for more than one couple. Realistic characters, deep emotions, and the heartwarming feelings brought on from both Penn’s sister Zoe and the Fire Island family interspersed with humor and the steamy tension between Nadia and Penn make this well written novel a must read.
Up In Flames is a very complex story. Nadia is a workaholic who has twice cancelled dates wit Penn due to work. Now she is caught in a hurricane because she wanted work materials before evacuating the island. Penn is a firefighter loses his career due to an injury sustained rescuing Nadia. Nadia feels guilty. Penn feels the loss of his fireman family and the career he loved. Will they recover from their guilt and anger. Can they find an HEA? Can be read as a stand alone – even better when you read the entire series. Gifted, intelligent writing and wonderful characters.
Once again, Ms Knupp gives us a story that is not only touching , but also thought provoking.
This book belongs to Firefighter Penn Griffin and Nadia Hamlin, a career gal who breaths and lives for her job in her parent’s hotel. After Nadia first cancels a date, and later left in the middle of their second date, Penn is not a fan of Nadia. He sees her as someone more interested in work and driven by money.
A hurricane hits the island, and because she’s determined to get some paperwork from the hotel, Nadia realizes she has waited too long to get off San Amaro Island. When she tries to leave , she gets stuck and calls for assistance. Penn arrives to help. Little did either of them know that in an instance , both their lives would be changed forever.
Penn is hurt and now his life will never be the same. Nadia’s guilt has her reaching out to Penn. Needless to say , he is angry and in pain.
The storyline was engaging and the characters complex. But mostly, it was a reminder that life can change in an instant. That life throws us curveballs, but it’s how we react to these obstacles that’s what is important. Do we have the courage to overcome them, or do we let them make make us bitter and be a shell of whom we were?
Another great addition to this wonderful series.
I voluntarily read this advance copy. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
ire Fighting Island Romance
This is a fun romance with fire fighting and an island hotel as a backdrop. I liked that this story brought out so much of the raw courage and strength it takes to be a fire fighter. The sex is graphic and fairly easy to skip past. I may read more of this series. I received this book (ARC) at no cost and chose to post my honest review.
